  • Toyota Avensis - drivers seat 21 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Its been a good car overall but not trouble free. Problems with chirping ancilliary belt(two replacements fitted since new, front brake rattle, dashboard rattle. I better stick to the subject of drivers seat. Since new the drivers seat internally seems loose and headrest rattly at times. When I sit into the car the lower section moves in pushing the top section out making for poor back support when driving.
  • Vauxhall Combo 1.3 cdti - Vauxhall 1.3cdti limp mode 19 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Van 2008 42K combo 1.3cdti now goes into limp mode after falshing lights on the dash.It is fine up to 2800rpm and very little beyond. At 2800 once the turbo speeds up it jerks almost like a tap on the brakes and will not pull or rev above. Power is well down until I stop, restart, and it's back to normal. It was intermittent, now it is permanent. I can hear the turbo whine a nd pick up like normal, but I think under load and acceleration it makes more noise just before it cuts to limp.
  • HJ letters 10th May 2013 17 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The buses there were the first ones to have video cameras on permanent recording mode pointing forwards through the windscreen, because they were plagued by drivers who would slam their brakes on deliberately, cause a crash, after which all five of the car's occupants would jump out wincing and rubbing their necks. Anyone who has spent time in the lovely hamlet of Bolton will know what I am getting at here.
  • Seat Ibiza - Part ex - damaged vehicle 10 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I have a 2005 Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI Sport 100 with the following issues:   103,000 miles All 4 alloys scuffed Engine management light on - issues with turbo Both front brake pads scored Large dent/scratch on passenger side doors affecting both doors Radio knob missing Minor cosmetic damage elsewhere.   Would a Honda dealer take this in for part-ex?
  • Accident ? 14 May 2013 (Forum)
For more than a 100yd stretch the hail carpeted the road with a layer more than an inch thick - akin to a layer of icy marbles.  The driver of a car neglected to slow down according to the conditions, and when he braked for the island the car skidded, mounted the central reserve and collided with a sign post.  The sign post was still straight but the shallow concrete base was almost out of the ground, leaving the post about 30 degrees out of vertical.
  • Rolling back the MOT while preserving safety 12 May 2013 (Forum)
So while they sizzle in golden baths with gilded taps, and radox, our poor sons and daughters cant afford a cheap motor. The MOT is supposed to be a safety test, that is why we suffer it. So wheels brakes and steering, no major rust... ok But we have windscreen, abs, crash bags, leaky linkages, you name it, anything that Dave Cameron's mates in the motor industry want to suck our blood for. Let's roll back the MOT certificate to a safety certifificate, not a licence for dodgy garages to print money!
  • Any - Technology leveraging increased insurance premiums 4 Feb 2013 (Forum)
All, I've read two seperate motoring journalist sources saying that, in the not too distant future, cars without 'city' emergency braking systems, such as those on the latest Volvos, Fords and optional on some Fiats, will suffer insurance premium penalties. How do we feel about insurance premiums calculated in part by the safety tech on your car?
  • Land Rover Discovery 3 - Tanked 25 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I accept that by owning a car I must accept wear and tear on certain parts brakes tyres oil plugs gaskets etc Would I be reasonable in claiming that this falls well outside what is normal wear and tear? Your learned thought's would be of great vaule as I am staring down the throat of a £1000 hair cut !!

  • Volvo S40 - car change 2 Dec 2012 (Forum)
My Volvo S40 is now nearly 7 years old, and has covered 75K miles. This year it will need a full brake overhaul and 4 new tyres, estimated cost around £1000. As the car is worth less than £4k, I have to decide whether or not to spend the cash and keep it, or change it.  I like the new V40, but am not prepared to buy a new one.
  • Ford Escort 1.8 TDI 1997, (Not common rail.) - Diesel help PLEASE 16 Jun 2012 (Forum)
The only was I can get going again is to jump out, reprime the system using the priming pump, get in, restart and drive away. I'm having to left foot brake and keep the engine running with my right. I am guessing that the injector pump is shot, as I believe the idle is all handled within it ? If it is, maybe it needs to go to the car cemetary in the sky ?
  • Almera Auto 2001 - Have I been Lucky ? 7 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Since then I have driven it 163,000 miles.  I've changed the oil 37 times, the gearbox oil 5 times and had new discs/brakes/tyres 5 times. Nothing else has been changed Same battery, exhaust, rad, timing chain, pumps, belts, plugs, wipers, wheel bearings, CV joints. Never even a puncture or light bulb failure! It has no rust and has never failed MOT yet.
  • Ford Focus 2005 LX 1.6 auto - Ford Focus 2005 automatic gearbox problem 4 Mar 2012 (Forum)
When driving on the motorway i can get upto speed fine(70mph), but when i slow down and let the car coast(not apply the brake) the car seems to jolt(when changing down from 4th to 3rd). Once this happens, if i try and switch to manual mode this doesnt work(dashboard doesnt change). The car also seems to go into default mode and rev's more than usual.

  • Audi A2 - Which hose to use Seafoam in? 5 Oct 2011 (Forum)
It says on the seafoam website: "Locate a vacuum line that you are certain DISTRIBUTES EVENLY TO ALL CYLINDERS. On many vehicles the easiest option is taking the vacuum line from your brake booster PCV".   My question is :  Which hose on the A2 is a vacuum line that distributes evenly to all cylinders?   Any help would be much appreciated.   Chris.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B - Y reg vectra b 1.6 16v misfire 28 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi folks, I have 2001 vectra B 1.6 16v with a bad misfire, I have changed the plugs and the coilpack but misfire still persists. The EML does not come on but i did the brake pedal and accelerator thingy to get the codes and this is the codes it threw up, 0650, 0400, 1612, 0300, 0420, 0304, 0400(again), 0351, 0352, 0353 and 0354. I have read on other forums that some of the engines suffer from bad earth wires and there is a mod to fix the earths, I think mine is the z16xe engine would this also apply to that engine also.
  • Ford Focus - Noise on Initial gear change on automatic 8 May 2011 (Forum)
I realised when i had radio turned off, that on the 1st gear change in my car (from 1st to 2nd) there is a slight clunky noise , strangely this only happens on start up when i moved about 15 meters ish, and after that everything is normal... the noise does seem to be coming from the front end, havent pin pointed it but seems in front of pedals- this is my guess. previously this car was a motability vehicle which had, hand controls for braking and accelerators which have been removed. my car is a 2.0 petrol, focus automatic. on 2009 58 plate. any advice will be appreciated as i am keen on getting this sorted before it escalates.
  • mondeo skoda octavia? - which estate car 4k budget 7 Apr 2011 (Forum)
looking around for a larger car to replace my fiesta, must be an estate due to two kids plus pushchairs and all their stuff. i was keen on mondeo's, looking at 1.8 tdi's but after reading horror stories about the fly wheel failing and brake problems i am not so sure now, also looking at skoda octavia's but have also read about problems with them, for my budget the car will have around 70-100k on the clock, i do about 13k a year and the car must be economical hence why i am looking at diesels, and have reasonable repair costs so can someone either re-assure me about the fords or recommend something else to look at?
  • Peugeot 306 1.4 Meridian (2000) - Ignition / Cooling fan trouble 27 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Sometimes the engine will keep running after I remove the key (it eventually stops when I press the brake) and cooling fan will then run constantly, meaning I have to disconnect the battery to prevent it draining. I took it to an amateur mechanic who pointed out a burnt out, melted fuse in the interior fusebox as the problem.
  • Any - Holding the car on the clutch on gradients 3 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Every morning there are several drivers holding the car on the gradient using the clutch.   They are not driving autoboxes as they don't have brake lights on, and the cars often roll backward a little before trickling forward again -- which they wouldn't do if they were autoboxes in 'Drive'.   Seeing this got me thinking about DMFs and failure rates.
