  • Equipe - Heywood, Lancs - Good Service 1 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I went to them yesterday to get a tyre repaired - for once the nail went through the middle. Done immediately for £10. But they also did the brakes on the Subaru, have sorted the clutch on the Freelander and always with brisk and friendly efficiency and they genuinely go the extra mile. I was once there picking up my car and saw them really go out of their way as they were closing to help a family with young kids who had been recovered there off the M62 with a long way to go.
  • Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 00 1.25 Rear lights problem 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I've an X-Reg Fiesta 1.25 Zetec. The rear indicators, brakes lights and number plate light are all working fine however when I put the headlights the rear lights do not come on. I have tried replacing all fuses related to the lights and nothing helped. I have read elsewhere that it could be a faulty switch (located in the steering column) but I'd have thought if that was the case I would have lost all lights at the rear.
  • East Riding of Yorks to get Speed Vigilantes. 26 Jul 2009 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/speed-patrols VILLAGERS are to be trained by the police to use speed guns, in a drive to put a brake on motorists. Pilot schemes are to go ahead in several villages, which could lead to the initiative being rolled out across the East Riding. Under the scheme, communities are expected to raise about £2,000 to buy a speed gun, which would become the property of Humberside Police.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 98 1.6 Servo Assist Problem? 18 May 2009 (Forum)
Hello Forum Today, I stalled the car reverse parking on an incline (Doh!) and lost braking and steering power. I was a concerned as I heard, just as (or just before {edited to replace 'txt' talk} ) I stalled, a clunk that sounded very mechanical. Almost like a snap/spring/clunk low pitched sound under the car.
  • Vauxhall Cavalier (1981 - 1988) - 94 1.6 Slack steering 26 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The PS fluid return hose from the rack to resevoir looks like it could do with replacement where it has rubbed against a brake pipe, but other than that there is no sign of leakage or any other fault. The column pinch bolts are tight and the flex coupling is in good order. Any ideas what could be the matter?
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 94 1.4 Auto - headrests 2 Mar 2009 (Forum)
They then need to be pulled right down to the end of their adjustment in order to spring back again. Then you brake a bit and Hey Presto! the damn things do it again. Can anything be done apart from arson? Do the headrests from other models fit, that don't auto adjust? Otherwise it is a good little car. It's only done 35000 and I think I now know why.......
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 98 2.0 ABS fault ?? 10 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I had a waggle of the driveshafts and they seem reasonable. No warning lights on dash. Did a manual check of brake fluid level - OK. It feels like the ABS is being invoked all the time. Next action?
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 02 2.0 Headlights 8 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi to anyone that might be able to help, my Peugeot 307 2.0 110HDI Diesel 2002yr has just started to turn it's own headlights / tail lights on and off whilst im driving along, happens at various speeds or under braking or just when it feels like it want's to let someone out of a side road it can happen after a few miles or seconds from starting up and pulling away (I now drive with my lights on ALL the time) I had it checked at Peugeot garage with no faults on diagnostics has anyone a clue what might be making this happen?
  • Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - 04 1.6 strange clutch problem 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
For instance, the car is biting just as I am to lift my foot from the pedal. Grip is fine, not slipping at all, as far as I can tell. Called VX, they told me to check brake fluid as its shared with clutch. Checked, its fine. What could this be? My car does suffer from the clutch judder, but only very slightly some mornings. This seems to be a separate sort of problem as it does it all the time.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2002 2.0 Electrical gremlins? 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Had this 406 HDI since August 2008, Model = Rapier Estate HDI (110), Recently it has had a tendency to switch on the front fog lights on it's own and if I do not switch them off it will also switch on the rear fog light, The air con is ok whilst in motion but not when stationary (I think that the A/C colling fan is not working) looked at the relays and a gave the terminals a clean but no change. Latest thing is the hazard lights activated when braking heavily to avoid a side road pull out. Does anyone else have any of these problems an if so is there a root cause or is the loom starting to fail? Thanks
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 Boot opening!!!! 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi Gents, I problem has just started yesterday with my focus. When ever I apply the brake pedal the boot unlocks and I get the warning on the dash saying luggage compartment open. It does the even when the car isn't running but with the ignition on. I have looked for fuses that might have blown but can not find one and all the connections to the boot seem fine.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Should I get the warranty 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
53 plate 2004 Mondeo 2.0 LX £3000. 29k miles full polar ford service history purchasing from independant who specialises in high end motors very clean and comig with 12 months MOT. Warrently everything except wear and tear - wipers, brakes tyres etc Offered 12 month 12k miles £290 or 18 month 18k miles including service in 12 months for £395 I am inclined to take it and think the 12 month is a little pointless as for £100 more I get a service and 6 months extra I am ready to be shot down Thanks
  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 2001 525d Clutch pedal biting point is low 7 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Am I right in thinking this is probably the hydraulics beginning to fail or is something adjustable? I can't find the clutch master/ slave anywhere inside the engine bay; it's not next to the brake master which is under the n/side pollen filter. Where the devil are they? And any idea how much I can expect an indie garage to charge me for fixing it?
  • Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - 2006 1.8 central locking problems 19 Jun 2008 (Forum)
They have fitted a relay on the electrics as you can hear it clicking at the back of the vehicle when the indicators or brakes are touched. Thanks!
  • Driving on trade plates 28 May 2008 (Forum)
During an eventful journey home last night, spotted a Merc CLK convertible hurtling down the outside lane at a good (or bad) 90+ mph. Just after he passed me he had to conduct an emergency braking manoeuvre to avoid running into a car that had moved into his lane. He then resumed his frantic pace down lane 3. Only then noticed that the car was driving on trade plates. Could n't help wondering how the owner (or prospective owner) would have viewed the way car was being treated.
  • What is regular use? 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have always thought this to be a weekly run of 20+ plus which, after warming up for 3 ? 4miles, takes in a variety of roads to exercise the gears and brakes and includes a few miles at the permitted maximum. Or is this showing my age and being slightly OCD? The reason I ask is that one of my neighbours has an eight year old Vectra, which he has owned for five years.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - 1999 - squealing from wheels 2 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The sound goes when turning to the right/left and then returns immediately the car is going straight. The sound also goes when I put the brakes on. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this is. Thank you! JS
  • FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - Car standing unused for 12 months. Will it run? 22 Jan 2008 (Forum)
If it was a runner I think it might be worth £500. I guess it will need a minimum of a full service and all fluids changed, clutch, brakes and engine may be may be siezed, deffo a new battery, probably 4 new tyres. That would cost more than it is worth so probably get it collected and scrapped by a proper disposal contractor. Any thoughts on other things that might be needed and the cost involved, please?
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - '06 2.0 petrol ~ Water trickle on carpet 4 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Its only a very small amount of water and its coming out of the centre colsole right down low at the very back where the base of the facia meets the floor and the scuttle panel. Its running towards the drivers footwell area, down by the brake pedal. I suspect the heater matrix, but as the car is only 1 year old (10k) i would find that surprising. There are no leaves blocking the drains below the windscreen and the drain holes are clear.
  • Alfa Romeo 145/146 (1994 - 2000) - busted slave cylinder! 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
When he returned he informed me the handbrake (also low fluid level)light had come on in the car. I suspected a burst flexible brake pipe......further investigation tho led to a leaking clutch slave cylinder. My question is was this caused by abuseie:redlining car and taking of ? Or was it just a matter of normal wear.......the seal on the "in" side of the piston was pinched while the outter seal was perfect.......to put it bluntly......did the little sod wreck the cylinder?
