  • Lorry Fires 22 Jan 2017 (Forum)
It seems to me that this is a fairly regular occurance, and it always seems to be lorries: never cars or vans. Why is that: is it just that there's more power available and therefore more heat when a brake sticks or a bearing fails? Or is it something to do with trucker's lifestyles like custom electrical modifications?
  • Volkswagen Jetta (2006 - ) - Help with snow chains. 15 Dec 2015 (Forum)
According to my handbook my wheel size is unsuitable for chains. I' assuming this is because of clearance issues with the suspension/braking components. Does anyone know of a chain system that will fit my car? I will ask at my VW dealer on Monday when it goes in for a service.

  • tToyota Yaris 1.0 1999 - alloy wheel refurb 27 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Hello, we decided to do a DIY job on the alloys , etch primer, primer, siver alloy and lacquer, all went well but the car having disc brakes at the front picks up a hell of a lot of muck and has been nigh impossible to remove. Does anyone have any ideas as to how this may have happened on the freshly sprayed/lacqured alloys as we have had to virtually clean a lot of the paint off to clean them , regards, Brian
  • Ford Focus 1.8 petrol 2004 - New battery and now battery light coming on 6 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I have had a new battery fitted and since then when braking sometimes the battery warning light comes on and it feels like the car might stall. Has anyone any idea why this might be? Had no problem before new battery fitted. Could it be poorly fitted or might it have triggered some other problem.

  • Volvo V60 - 'Flybrid' KERS - alternative to electric hybrid? 7 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Interesting article here about a prototype Volvo V60 with a mechanical flywheel-based KERS-type system in the rear axle, which can deliver an additional 80bhp for up to 8 seconds to help out the main powerplant when accelerating, etc. The flywheel "charges" up to 60,000rpm under deceleration / braking, then can be engaged when accelerating depending on the driving mode selected. http://cars.uk.msn.com/reviews/volvo-s60-flywheel-kers-review-2013-prototype
  • any - Driving Snow Covered Cars 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
There's loads of folks driving about with snow covered cars. Fools! A woman was killed in the last snows when she braked and the snow on her roof slid off over the screen - the wipers couldn't cope with the weight and she had a crash unable to see. Not only that, but the snow blowing off the roof effectively means the car behind is driving through a blizzard!
  • Fore Fiesta 2006 MK5 - ABS/Handbrake Light perm on & speedo not working 27 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Unfortunately, it does seem that this is a common problem with Fords. I checked the brake fluid straight away and it is full. Would welcome some advice please.

  • VW Golf - eBrakes/Autohold and hill starts. 17 Mar 2013 (Forum)
However does anyone have experience of these, particularly the AutoHold function, where pressure is maintained in the brake sytem until such time as you gradually release the clutch and and employ suffficient gas, to pull away on steep-ish hills? I wonder just how well these devices fare on 10% hills or steeper.

  • Mitsubishi Colt 5-door (2005) - Noise in Higher Gears 17 Feb 2012 (Forum)
When accellerating the noise is kind of drowned out by the engine, but it continues when not accellerating or braking. You can only really hear it when in fourth or fifth gears. Any ideas what this could be? If I didn't know the car I might think it's normal, but it is definitely something which wasn't there before...

  • Vauxhall Tigra Red convertible 2007 1400cc - Water in sills 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
A short time ago I noticed the sound of water sloshing around in the sills on the passenger side when braking or cornering. My local agent identified this, cleared the water and told me not to power wash the car, but normal washing would be OK He charged £88 for this work.  Two weeks later the problem has recurred, even worse than before.
  • Audi S4 Cabriolet - Audi winter tyre wheel availability 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Does anyone know where I can obtain the 17" wheels my S4 handbook says I should use for winter tyres, but according to my Audi deale,r  Audi refuses to import suitable steel 17" wheels into the UK. Specialist winter tyre dealers tell me that due to the size of the brakes on an S4 I cannot just buy any old 17" wheels of the correct stud spacings.
  • Citroen Xsara HDi - Xsara clicking 16 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Wife has an 02 plate Xsara HDi, and when travelling at slow speed, and in a straight line, there is a clicking sound, similar to a cv joint that you can hear when you turn. Also the car vibrates under braking, and I know that these are prone to warped discs. The rear pads have been changed, as have the front discs, (The front pads were like brand new.) and everything is tightened. The car is brilliant on fuel, but she's getting a bit hacked off with it.
