Uneven light intensity. Vauxhall Omega 20 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Omega 2.0L 16v auto box 1994 97K Hi guys, I've checked the contacts (there's no corrosion) & replaced bulbs, but I still can't get my brake lights or rear headlights to be of equal brightness. What should I look at next ? Cheers, Pete -
leak in peugeot 406 9 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I have taken it to an independent garage and they put a hose on the engine and the water was found to be leaking around the brake servo unit. They advised me to take it to a peugeot dealer where the dashboard might have to come out,can anyone advise if this will be the case? -
New Polo problems 6 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I bought the new model Polo last December. Has anyone had problems with either squeeky brakes or water ingress/leakage into the hatch (if leakage, may be from rear wash-wipe). I'll get them done under warranty - but I'm just interested to know if others have experienced this. Best wishes, frmarcus -
Safety Recalls 24 May 2003 (Forum)
Is there a "non-trade" IE consumer accesible website that details safety recall campaigns that are live at present. I have summat very odd happenning to the brakes on my 2001 Ibiza and would like to find out if there is a more widespread issue. my garage (not a dealer) said that the part should last "longer than the car" . ThankYew Diz -
Rover 'knocking' noise 22 May 2003 (Forum)
I haven't driven my car for a while (Rover 220sdi) and after jacking up the car and checking the front brakes, following a post yesterday, I took it for a spin. As soon as I pulled away there was a loud knocking noise coming from the rear of the car - this lasted a while but has now dissapeared. Any ideas what it was? -
Front discs 13 Dec 2002 (Forum)
They were only two years old and I have done 15,000 miles on them. Perhaps I don't use the car enough or brake hard enough? Thanks. -
Jeep Recalls 2 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Anyone see/hear this article on the news this lunchtime? I just caught the end of it. Looked like problems with brake hubs shearing. Trouble is I couldn't make out whether it was just Cherokees or Grand Cherokees as well. Either way I'd better book my next service early if the garage is going to be busy with recall work! -
Shock absorber replacement 16 May 2002 (Forum)
My MK2 Golf GTI has failed MOT due to failure of near side front shock absorber (as well as near side rear brake caliper). Are shock absorbers best replaced in pairs, or would one be OK ? Oh, and the exhaust is knackered as well so it's gonna be pricey. Matthew Kelly No, not that one. -
New Punto bulb replacement 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Can any one advise me how to access the rear of the nearside light cluster to change a brake light bulb on the 5 door New Punto?. I can find one release nut at the top, but not one lower down. (On the offside I can find two nuts) Thanks John -
powetrain components 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
just a quick question: has anyone used powertrain brake discs, and if so, are they good, bad, or indifferent? is it worth paying slighty extra for a lucas disc? also mintex pads or powertain pads? it seems that several nationwide motor factors (partco, brown brothers, etc) sell them... -
Ford Focus TDCI Mark 2 - Ford Focus Steering wheel vibration 22 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I know it goes on a bit but please bear with me. Back in March 2008 it got to the point where the when braking there was a lot of noise from the back indicating that they were on their way out. Went to local kwikfit and got a deal for four new brake pads and discs . All good until started driving it after and was getting lots of noise and vibration from front which would stop if you touched the brakes. -
Floods. 7 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I have two land Rovers at present, one is ex-farm and 40yrs old the other 20yrs old and ex-off road enthusiast owned. Just doing the wheel bearings and brakes on both. The off-road trialling one is absolutely wrecked in every respect when you look at the drivetrain and brakes, far too much time spent in deep muddy water. The farm track one thought is excellent because they were relying on it so they never went looking for trouble. -
I went rallying today ... 10 Jul 2004 (Forum)
My own cars both have fairly progressive accelerators and fairly sharp brakes. The rally car was the opposite - accelerator only needed about a quarter of the pressure to send full power to the rear wheels, while the brake really had to be stood on to get a reaction. Essentially, all my usual driving instincts and habits had to be unlearned in a hurry. -
Pug 306 to 307 - Car upgrade, have I made a mistake? 11 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I managed to run a new wire that from the relay plug to the engine fusebox and since then the car has been a nice drive with just normal maintenance being needed. Then prior to the MOT in september the brake light wouldnt go off completely and again it was a dead wire as it stayed the same with both the brake fluid plug and hand brake plug removed. So again a new piece of wire and all was well, This however made me lose confidence in the loom. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 03 1.4 clunks, hisses and big miles 8 Jan 2009 (Forum)
It's been examined several times by the garage, and they assure me it's not the suspension, however I just wondered if anyone has any suggestions Secondly there is a hiss coming from the passenger footwell, it occurs when the brakes are applied in particular when the car is being driven and the brakes haven't been touched in a while. Again this has been checked by the garage, but the sound annoys me and I don't like anything untoward about the brakes. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1994 diesel. braking judders! 2 Nov 2007 (Forum)
the brake disk gets worn in places and causes judders though the steering wheel ,its the front on a front drive 306 diesel 1994, its the drivers side and the patches only really ( mainly ) appear on the inside of the disk, the problem has become unsuppressable buy the replacement of the disk and pads ( 4th time ), it used to be it went away or at least got a whole lot better for a while by replacing them, not any more.. the down link has been replaced and the track rod end of the anti roll bar ( hope that's the right names , it's what me dad calls them ). -
Suzuki Swfit at 5000 miles & 7 months 30 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Don't think its ever been better than 38. I have read reports on the Internet of Swifts suffering trim rattles and squealing brakes - this one is fine in these respects and there have not been any problems with it so far. No rattles/squeaks or anything broken as yet! Upsides: Good chassis/steering/brakes/gears - fun to drive. -
Primera 1.6Si R reg (P11?) - service 22 Mar 2004 (Forum)
There seems to be a couple of slots uder the body for something, - jack or axle stand? Any tips on cleaning the brakes? There is a little rust on the circumference of the disks but not it appears on the braking faces. I can't get the wheel off as I don't have a security socket for the wheels. Would I get one from the Nissan Dealer if I took proof of ownership and identity along? -
Citroen Xantia questions 13 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I usually give it 3-4 heats to get it going nicely, if I give it one or two it'll turn for about 10 seconds before starting over. Is this likely to be glow plugs even though they were replaced? c) My rear brakes squeek. The fronts used to as well, but some copper grease cured that. Copper grease was added to the rears in the relevent place as well, but this didnt help. One thing I noticed was the anti rattle shims were missing from the rear brakes on both sides. -
MOT frequency 2 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Proposals to make MOTs less frequent assume that drivers have some enough sense to have their vehicle checked if they hear strange noises or notice steering or braking seeming abnormal. In some states of the USA there no compulsory safety inspections are required: look on YouTube at "Just Rolled In" clips showing deathtraps driven in with serious faults that owners sometimes decline to be repaired.
