97 Astra Rear Drum Size 8 Jun 2004 (Forum)
97 P Astra LS Estate GM Turbo Diesel Having returned from 3 weeks away, the Astra Started fine, but my wife had parked it with the handbrake on, so there was a little friction from the sticking handbrake (I normally park in with the brake off following advice from other threads on this forum). This released and the car drove fine all day, but the following morning the left rear wheel was jammed solid - nothing would shift it. Dismantling it yesterday evening with judicious use of soft faced mallet and sharp edged tongue revealed the brake lining had seperated from the shoe in one piece (possibly in drum extraction process), so new shoes required. -

Cost of covering high mileages in cars 9 Sep 2003 (Forum)
High mileages means around 80,000 miles+, and it may also be interesting to see how many miles owners of such cars get from brake pads, disks and tyres. In my case, I own a 1987 Toyota Camry turbo diesel (2.0 litre engine); mileage 100,000 miles Parts changed or repaired: Head gasket, alternator, radiator. Tyres last 37,000 miles; Brake pads 40,000 miles -
Red Light Cameras 28 May 2003 (Forum)
The offence took place on a Friday evening, at 6pm rush hour, in extremely heavy rain. As the lights started their green->red sequence she braked from 40 down to the 19.2 mph that the camera recorded, but due to the closeness of the vehicle behind she decided that to brake any harder could cause an accident should the driver behind not be able to stop in the same distance on the wet road. -
omega problems? I'm not sure! 12 May 2003 (Forum)
THE PROBLEM - when driving at all various speeds the car handles a treat until you take your foot off of the accelerator, then the rev counter immediatley drops back down to idle speed (around 700 rpm) and there appears to be no engine braking at all, Down hills especially with foot covering brake pedal it feels like car is in "n" position and coasting. (there is no pulling back from the engine, like clutch is depressed) When travelling on a flat road at about 50 mph I took my foot off the accelerator and down went the needle to 700 rpm then replace foot and needle returns to previous position with no apprent loss of power ???? -
Clutch questions 23 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I usually do the first bit in neutral because I don't need any acceleration and I can then give all my concentration to the brake and the mirrors, rather than having to think about the clutch as well. I know if my foot slips off the brake there is nothing to stop me, but if I was in reverse gear would the situation be any better? -
Million mile Honda Accord 20 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Title says it all, but the pertinent facts are that it is on the original engine, transmission and various other parts (including brake calipers)!. Only been on a tow truck once due to a fuel pump failure at 741k miles. Interior also looking remarkably good for such a huge mileage. -
Another automatic question 10 Nov 2022 (Forum)
I've always wondered whether, when you're waiting at a junction or in a traffic jam, it's best to put the car into neutral or leave it in Drive but put your foot on the brake or apply the handbrake? -

Red light camera flashed me! 16 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I was travelling towards the M3 in a 70 limit. The lights changed, I slammed on the brakes and came to a stop a few feet over the line. The camera flashed twice, probably showing that I was in the same place on both photos. Do you think I will get done? Thank you! -
