Automatics-Drive or Neutral? 14 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Just been wondering, in the interests of transmission longevity, what's the best method when stopped at a red light or in queueing traffic with an auto? Slip it into neutral or leave it in drive with the parking brake on? (unless the guy behind has his front foggies on-then give 'em a tan I say!) ;-) -
Toyota Camry (1991 - 1995) - 91 2.0 problem with handbrake light 30 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The handbrake light on my uncles car does not go out. It seems to work fine with the handbrake alone, but once the foot brake it applied it stays illuminated. What might cause this? -

A pointless screw? 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
What is the point of the single, countersunk, machine screw used to hold a drum brake in place? I mean, the drum is hardly going to fall off when you consider it's also held in place by the wheel nuts. To me, it's a pointless screw, unless anyone knows otherwise. Are there any other examples? -
Scrap Metal 26 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I've got an old car bonnet and some old brake discs to dispose of. Are scrap metal merchants likely to be interested in such things or would I be better taking them to my local dump. Someone said to me yesterday that they would be worth something but to be honest, I wouldn't have thought so. -
Subaru Impreza running costs 13 Jun 2007 (Forum)
What can I expect to pay for services etc. I'll be doing roughly 20k per year so what kind of maintanence costs are involved, for example brakes, tyres and anything else? -
Mondeo poor fuel consumption 11 Dec 2006 (Forum)
and about 27(poor but acceptable) mpg. On the motorway it can be about 37-40mpg. Not the usual suspects of brakes binding, leaking fuel or blocked air filter. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. -
Multi vee belts - bmw 320d 14 May 2006 (Forum)
My 320d is approaching the 100k mark fairly soon and has had the coolant and brake fluid changed and it just struck me that the fan belt might be getting tired by now. I was wondering what life expectancy would you get from these? -
Pug 306 and ZX parts common ??? 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Anyone know if the front suspension struts of a Pug 306 TD are interchangeable with a Citroen ZX TD. Have seen people saying the Citroen and Pugs are the same with the suspension, brakes, engine and transmission etc. Having problems finding a ZX in Dismantelers, but can find Pugs. -
One Careful Owner!! 26 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Biggest topic of conversation was the unlucky people who were going to end up with all those thrashed (clutch/brakes/tyres) 'Mazda demonstation model' cars. -
VW Passat 130 PD TDI 2002 7 May 2005 (Forum)
Rear brake light needs replaced. Found a plastic cover at rear of light cluster with a Tab. Do I just pull it off? Also, where can I get a home maintenance manual (like Haynes) for my Passat? -
MOT for trailers 4 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Large numbers are driven around (not by members of the BR) on ancient tyres with flattened edges, and rusted up brakes. What is there to suggest that it is appropriate to let these things out on the road without being inspected annually? -

Cars knowing why they crashed. 21 Mar 2004 (Forum)
While at an IAM meeting yesterday, the guest speaker, a leading firefighter of 14 years experience said that the police are trying to persuade firemen not to cut the battery cables on crashed cars. Apparantly, they can tell if the car was braking and what speed amoungst other bits of info. Is this true? -
95 Rover 414 steering 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Strange problem with my Rovers steering, I thought it sounded and felt like a loose power steering belt but noise happens most when I am braking and turning at the same time! Never experienced this on any other car that I have owned with a dodgy belt! -
Polo/Passat rear pads 28 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I know that a special tool is required to screw in and retract the pistons on the rear disc brakes of some VW Polo's/ Passat's etc. I'd be grateful if someone could tell me whether this tool (which costs about £50) is strictly necessary or is there a DIY method of screwing the pistons in?
