Is anyone aware of any inherent problems with the braking system on this model
  • Renault Scenic - Renault Grand Scenic mk3 2009 rear brake problems 19 Oct 2020 (Forum)
We have recently put our car in for its MOT and the rear brake pads need replacing but the garage said the rear calipers would not wind back seemingly, but we have had no problems with the rear brakes sticking or not working and the electronic parking brake is working perfect and holds the car even on a steep gradient.

(Brake shoes at back, discs at front)
  • Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 08 2.2 Brake pedal feel 22 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I have no problems when I want to brake more quickly or brake hard. The brakes seem strong (certainly better than my last car) just not easy to use. Will it be possible to adjust this sort of thing or am I stuck with this? Thanks
  • Laguna II Brakes 27 Nov 2004 (Forum)
As it happens my wife's SLK had exactly the same work done to it, and her brakes are sharper than before. Any ideas why my brakes aren't just as good?
  • 205xld brake warning circuit 8 Nov 2002 (Forum)
The brake warning light on my 205XLD appears to be on all the time. As far as I know there are three warning switches that would trigger this light: mechanical switch beneath the handbrake lever; contact switch on the brake pads; and float switch in the brake fluid reservoir.
  • Brakes & Brake Fluid... 15 May 2002 (Forum)
Coming down the mountain at the weekend, I managed to overheat the brakes to such an extent that I lost virtually all braking. I stopped the truck in snow, which cooled everything down again and managed to continue the rest of the way, admittedly gingerly, without issue.
  • decrease in braking performance 6 May 2002 (Forum)
Also, the brakes no longer feel as sharp as they did. Is something that can be adjusted if I go back to Kwik fit and complain? As you can imagine it's a litle sole destroying to fork out for new brakes and to notice a drop in braking performance.
  • brake fluid 8 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Whenever I take the wheels off on annual service to check brake pads etc on my wifes Maestro I always bleed some new brake fluid through each wheel nipple. About half a dozen brake pedal depressions. The total fluid used being about one small can of brake fluid.
  • Alfa Romeo Brera - Apparent lack of brake brake assistance 15 May 2016 (Forum)
Hi, been going through a late mid life crisis and have the urge to own Brera , done alot of review reading, always loved the GTV, then found the Brera, had a look at a couple of dogs, then find one that ticks all the boxes, high miler diesel but good history, took it for a drive onlyto be disappointed with the braking characteristics, initially put it down to sitting on a forecourt, but after 30 minutes they didn't get any better, very hard brake pedal with no power assist feel to them at all, was on a relatively quiet B road, so thought  lets wind it up and try an emergency brake, after what felt like ages they car came to a controlled stop, appreciate it is a heavier car than the Megan I was going to chop in, but the brakes did not instill any confidence.
  • VW scirocco Mk3 - Brake noise when car has stopped 2 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Last summer due to a broken pad ( original VW) scoring the disc I had the rear discs and pads changed ( Mintex), all was fine for about 3 weeks then started to make exactly the same noise again. If I brake hard the the noise disappears, if I drag the hand brake for say 50 yards the noise disappears. VW want to strip all of my brakes down, my local (trusted) mechanic has had a look and could only suggest putting a softer compound pad on the rear brakes.
  • Left foot braking 20 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Interestingly he agreed with me that the reasoning is utter tosh although rally drivers do need to have the skill. The reason, he says, that rally drivers left foot brake is in order to be able to reapply the THROTTLE quickly, not the brakes. Therefore left foot braking on the road would only be valid if one was worried about acclerating as soon and as fast as one can.
  • Ford Fiesta - 2006 - Brake judder/hissing sound after starting 2 Nov 2018 (Forum)
When I start the car and move off in first gear, the brakes judder - as if something is stuck. Then there is a brief ticking and hissing sound from the passenger side - and after that, everything returns to normal and brakes work as normal. The hissing/ticking disappears.
  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 03 1.5 Brake Fade 7 May 2008 (Forum)
Hi, Just had a bit of a worrying experience. I was approaching a roundabout after a few miles at around 60mph, when I applied the brake there was very little response. Luckily I was able to stop in time and my brakes gradually improved after that. Could this be brake fade? If so what could be causing it? I've also felt as if the brakes are maybe sticking on as sometimes I feel as if the car is dragging as I accelerate.
  • Why brake pedal is bigger in automatic cars? 4 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Is there any technical background for bigger brake pedals in autos?
  • Honda CRV Brakes 5 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Whilst the brakes on my 2004 CRV work well the pedal feels spongy as if they need bleeding. Is this normal ?
  • Rover 414, Squeaking brakes? 24 May 2004 (Forum)
Over the last thousand or so miles my Rover 414 (96N) has developed a high pitched intermittant squeaking noise from the drivers side front. It happens at all speeds, sounds like the brake pads are just touching the disk and comes and goes as the car corners or goes over bumps. I can make it stop by lightly applying the brakes but it comes back again after braking. Just before I bought the car in late Feb it was MOTed by the supplying garage who said they had replaced the front brakes (and a rear wheel cylinder) to get it through the MOT.

agree with HJ on many things BUT left foot braking? Never Might be OK if you're learning to drive and will only ever drive an auto but those of us brought up with right fot braking and those who drive autos and manulas NO Be honest - an emergency needing hard/emergency braking and your foots on the brake without you even thining about it
