Citroen Xsara Picasso - citroen picasso 1.6 petrol starting problem - drummerboy

hi all. sometimes when i turn the key i get total silence, all the lights are on the dashboard but the car doesn't even turn over, not even a cough. i will try to start it between 4 and 10 times then suddenly it will turn over and start. is this a starter motor problem?? there's not even a click when i turn the key and then suddenly after several tries it will fire up??

Might be the battery, it's the time of year when they start to die (assuming it's a new issue?).

I'm sure they'll be other possibilities though, but at least get that and the alternator checked out to rule them out.
