Looking at used cars today, one of which was at one of the smaller supermarkets.
As of yesterday, ‘Yes, the car will be on site tomorrow for you to view’.
Today, when I arrive ‘It’s away at our prep centre, it’ll be back mid-afternoon’.
No problem, thinks I, I’ll go look at another one and come back later.
I get back late afternoon, and no sign of it. So I start poking around their compound and there it is - absolutely filthy and clearly not been touched. Had a look around it anyway to see that the aerial is missing from the roof, leaving a now uncovered 2cm square hole. In the pouring rain.
I left without talking to anyone.
They do make it hard work, don’t they? Read more
Hi,
I'm looking at these 2 cars and can't really work out the difference in terms of pro's/con's. Does anyone have any real world experience with them - good or bad? I assume the Kamiq is slightly higher and has slightly more room in the back (smaller boot size but came volume with the seats down). ... Read more
I have a Fabia estate - 16 reg 1.2 petrol.
Boot is massive - not much smaller than our Berlingo - but at the cost of a serious lack of leg space in the back.
Daughter went to look at an MGzs clearance, but called by the dealership on the offchance this morning for an HS for £22845 if she wants to take a look. The all new model. Read more
She still doesn't like the touchscreen controls for the aircon and ventilation, but is listening to what hubby and others say about MG customer service.
So probably still a no....
This doesn't seem to be possible with a post 2016 ICE car without running the engine. The electrics go into a sleep mode after a few minutes and turn off the audio system. Couldn't do it in my 2021 Duster. Present car is a little better, Clio E tech hybrid. If the car is put into Ready To Drive mode, the radio will stay on, with the engine firing up occasionally to keep the batteries charged up. I hate supermarkets and prefer to stay in the car while my wife gets the shopping. Does anyone have a way around this, and do pure EVs behave in the same way? Read more
On older cars, there was an intermediate ignition position between off and on to allow the use of the radio and 12v sockets - modern cars just don't have that.

As mentioned in the other thread, note the use of the word 'may'.
Exactly this....
Hi, this is the second Peugeot that I've owned (the previous being a 2008) in which the engine cooling fan (I assume that's what it is!) comes on frequently, and stays on for a while after turning the ignition off. Previously, it seemed to happen when I made two journeys close together, as if it hadn't had a chance to fully cool down between trips (and yet I could make one really long trip and it didn't happen.) Anyway, I just put it down to it being a quirk of a French car, but this morning I drove the car for only 10 minutes from cold, and the fan started up. I'm sure that it shouldn't be coming on so frequently, so any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Oh, just to add that the temperature gauge shows it to be "normal". Read more
Peugeot often put the cooling fan relays in the front grille, as a result they get their contacts clogged up with dirt and crud.
Try getting to them and giving the contacts a clean with electrical contact cleaner. That's fixed many 307s and 407s which have come to me with this problem...
We lease car on motorbility and specification says heated front windscreen, we have a button that lights up when pressed but seems no heated screen. So when went in for first service asked garage to look at. They said oh we are in contact with motorbility about this. 2 weeks went by so I got intouch with motorbility who knew nothing about it. Anyway cut along story short I contacted vauxhall customer services and after a few weeks came back and said case closed we are doing nothing about it ,no compensation. Motorbility are shocked as well . Does anyone know if I still have a case ? Read more
I’m a touch curious about how you test for a heated screen (apart from looking for the wires) in August?
Any compensation, in the case of a misbuild, should surely go to Motability, as it’s their car?
Vauxhall’s website says the Ultimate grade has it, optional on others.

I have a suspicion that the obvious new driver choices will be more expensive to insure than something more left field. The more new drivers opt for C1/Aygo/108/Corsa/Fiesta, the statistically greater the chance of those models are of being in accidents. Hence premiums rise. Opt for something Korean, or a 1.0 Fabia, and they may be cheaper to insure because they’re deemed ‘safer’.I'd agree with that. The more younger drivers are driving cars (and making claims on), the more expensive the insurance will become for subsequent younger drivers, regardless of insurance group.
While two examples (separated by nearly three decades) is certainly not conclusive, it should make the OP (and anyone else in similar position) stop and think....
Happened twice now, suddenly braking for traffic lights that are changing to red, and the car just isn't stopping! I brake but it still tries to move, I put the handbrake on and its still trying to move. What is this? It's a BMW 320i, used, 2012 model, its an automatic. I'm worried that I'm going to have an accident or get flashed/recorded and done for going through a red light, even though I don't fully go through it I get into the junction before the car eventually stops. Also worried this could be a very serious and expensive fault. It only seems to happen when braking suddenly. Happened before at a roundabout and I nearly went into the guy in front. Brake pads both front and back are new. I tried replicating this the first time on a side road but couldn't, so I think it literally just is after braking sharply.
As a matter of interest, would I have a leg to stand on if I went through a red light but it wasn't my fault beccause something about the vehicle was defective and it would not physically stop in time?... Read more
The front brakes need degreasing. You don't need new parts but your mechanic may be suggesting it would be easier to swap them than degrease them.
If new discs are fitted they still need degreasing before use....
I have a 2012 corsa d 1.2l petrol. Whenever I drive it it runs fine for.sbout 3 minutes after which it doesn't go past 3000 rpm. The car doesn't show any electrical issues. I've run a cylinder compression test and it passed. I installed new spark plugs and cleaned the intake manifold. The car seems to make a loud noise around the catalytic converter but it doesn't produce black smoke which I read is one of the symptoms. I'm probably gonna try to unbolt the converter and see if that fixes the issue. Is there anything else thos could be? Read more
An infra red thermal gun will give some indication of any hot spots in the exhaust system .
Would you expect hotspots to coincide with blockages?
I wouldn't, particularly, (in the abscence of any experience) and I'd think, without experience, or a "normal" system for comparison, IR readings might be hard or impossible to interpret....
