I’d be really grateful for some advice please. The steering rack needs changing on my 2014 97k Zafira B 1.8 petrol and I’m struggling to find the correct part. My local trustworthy mechanic said there are four possible racks for my car, but found ZF stamped into the rack but no other numbers or anything, so that narrows it down to two. Is there any way of telling which one it might be please? There is the option of sending it away to be refurbished, but due to the nature of the job – subframe dropped etc, it’s not really practical.
It’s had a steering issue for about three years which has got very slowly worse – slightly stiff and notchy when turning right only. This improves by working the steering back and forth / driving. It’s also worse when the weather is very cold. It’s probably down to dirt ingress as it didn’t have a cap on reservoir tank from when I bought it for a very long time until I noticed it. The fluid was black, but has been replaced and a cap fitted. Changing the fluid didn't improve the problem by the way.... Read more
If I disconnect the plugs from the PCM (and ABS module) to check and clean the contacts,would they need reprogramming or would they retain their settings ?,thanks. Read more
Was the fault present before you had the tyres and alignment done ?
