I posted on here previously asking about getting another diesel car. Having done a lot of reading since (and scared myself half to death), thought I would come back to get more advice on a forum that seems a good one to me. And I have run a forum myself previously, not about cars obviously, so understand what makes a forum good.
OK, have decided to possibly spend a little more than the original £8K I was looking at to get the right car for hubby and self. Possibly up to £10K or a little higher.... Read more
Anyone have any knowledge or thoughts on the face lifted Suzuki Swift? Daughter is looking to replace her 8 year old Baleno and likes the look of these. She wants an automatic, which I believe to be CVT which I don’t think is the case in the Baleno..
any downsides we should be aware of? Read more
Will do! Thanks for the earlier input, it’s much appreciated. It’ll be well serviced as they extend the warranty up to 7 years if it is.
Hi,
I am looking for some advice as to which SUV I should buy.... Read more
Personally I’d go Toyota, but rather than poverty spec, opt for an ex-demo?
As for Fords, I’ve a garage owner friend (award winning garage too) who has a very unfavourable view about the three cylinder engines - in fact any three cylinder engine. He says he’s repaired and replaced dozens, and they are junk.
The Kuga is a 4 cylinder 2.5 litre but personally, I’d expect a better 0-60 time for a 222hp hybrid than 9.2 seconds.
Other plus for a Toyota is if it’s serviced annually by a franchise, 12 months warranty in included- up to 100k miles. A manufacturer backed warranty like that is not to be sniffed at.
I saw that Lee Power, in the Insurance thread, said ...... High price is due to the known theft risk - some insurance companies wont even cover certain Toyota / Lexus products due to the CAN invader theft issue.
I didn't know that.... Read more
If our courts shipped the guilty low lifes responsible out to Saudi Arabia or similar for punishment such thefts would cease, one can dream....
Looking at used cars today, one of which was at one of the smaller supermarkets.
As of yesterday, ‘Yes, the car will be on site tomorrow for you to view’.
Today, when I arrive ‘It’s away at our prep centre, it’ll be back mid-afternoon’.
No problem, thinks I, I’ll go look at another one and come back later.
I get back late afternoon, and no sign of it. So I start poking around their compound and there it is - absolutely filthy and clearly not been touched. Had a look around it anyway to see that the aerial is missing from the roof, leaving a now uncovered 2cm square hole. In the pouring rain.
I left without talking to anyone.
They do make it hard work, don’t they? Read more
Sadly it's not just this type of outlet doing this sort of thing - I've come across many main dealerships across various makes in my area who aren't properly preparing second hand cars, if at all - though more on the inside than the outside.
Maybe the reason is that they can sell them without bothering to do that ?...
Hi,
I'm looking at these 2 cars and can't really work out the difference in terms of pro's/con's. Does anyone have any real world experience with them - good or bad? I assume the Kamiq is slightly higher and has slightly more room in the back (smaller boot size but came volume with the seats down). ... Read more
I have a Fabia estate - 16 reg 1.2 petrol.
Boot is massive - not much smaller than our Berlingo - but at the cost of a serious lack of leg space in the back.
This doesn't seem to be possible with a post 2016 ICE car without running the engine. The electrics go into a sleep mode after a few minutes and turn off the audio system. Couldn't do it in my 2021 Duster. Present car is a little better, Clio E tech hybrid. If the car is put into Ready To Drive mode, the radio will stay on, with the engine firing up occasionally to keep the batteries charged up. I hate supermarkets and prefer to stay in the car while my wife gets the shopping. Does anyone have a way around this, and do pure EVs behave in the same way? Read more
On older cars, there was an intermediate ignition position between off and on to allow the use of the radio and 12v sockets - modern cars just don't have that.

I have a suspicion that the obvious new driver choices will be more expensive to insure than something more left field. The more new drivers opt for C1/Aygo/108/Corsa/Fiesta, the statistically greater the chance of those models are of being in accidents. Hence premiums rise. Opt for something Korean, or a 1.0 Fabia, and they may be cheaper to insure because they’re deemed ‘safer’.I'd agree with that. The more younger drivers are driving cars (and making claims on), the more expensive the insurance will become for subsequent younger drivers, regardless of insurance group.
While two examples (separated by nearly three decades) is certainly not conclusive, it should make the OP (and anyone else in similar position) stop and think....
Happened twice now, suddenly braking for traffic lights that are changing to red, and the car just isn't stopping! I brake but it still tries to move, I put the handbrake on and its still trying to move. What is this? It's a BMW 320i, used, 2012 model, its an automatic. I'm worried that I'm going to have an accident or get flashed/recorded and done for going through a red light, even though I don't fully go through it I get into the junction before the car eventually stops. Also worried this could be a very serious and expensive fault. It only seems to happen when braking suddenly. Happened before at a roundabout and I nearly went into the guy in front. Brake pads both front and back are new. I tried replicating this the first time on a side road but couldn't, so I think it literally just is after braking sharply.
As a matter of interest, would I have a leg to stand on if I went through a red light but it wasn't my fault beccause something about the vehicle was defective and it would not physically stop in time?... Read more
The front brakes need degreasing. You don't need new parts but your mechanic may be suggesting it would be easier to swap them than degrease them.
If new discs are fitted they still need degreasing before use....
Also, would this 4WD with 18" wheels mean it is less fuel efficient. It has has 4 previous owners since 2018 registration?
