Still looking for something a little bit lively to replace our electric Corsa and just came across a 1.6 Ecoboost Focus locally.
It seems to tick all the requisite boxes (apart from price, but that's how it is now..). Other than a few clutch issues, I can't see that they are poorly thought of and, 10 years and 60,000 miles in, I imagine anything fundamental would have reared its head by now. I think it will need a cambelt? Any other thoughts on these though please?... Read more
I've just had a new battery fitted to my 2015 X250 XF 3.0 S and before and after fitting the battery, the mechanic plugged in an Autel scanner and the only fault code that came up was PO52F, a permanent fault with the Glow Plug Module System. He tested all the glow plugs and all were fine so he thinks that fitting a new Glow Plug Module will cure this fault. There are no warning lights on the car and it drives 100% fine but if the Glow Plug Module isn't working, DPF regenerations won't take place - indeed, I haven't noticed a DPF regen for a few weeks.
Has anyone else had this problem and is it worth me buying a new genuine Jaguar Glow Plug Module before the mechanic comes out next week to carry out more tests or will it be ok to wait for him to arrive and then buy a non-Jaguar part Glow Plug Module from a motor factor on the same day? I'm a long distance from the Jaguar dealership to buy the part there.
I'm just a bit concerned about fitting a non Jag part as the car has always been serviced at Jaguar and has had all genuine parts from new but it is that crucial to buy a genuine glow plug module? I keep hearing that some replacement parts come out the same factory as the genuine ones so maybe I'm being over fussy? Read more
Fault codes are only rough guide. I think I’d want a more in depth investigation before condemning the relay.
My cmax coolant reaches 85c eventually on a run then drops back to 60 it will not reach proper operating temperature without alot of revs. If I turn off the heater in the car it will then work OK until I turn it back on.
I have changed the thermostat and sender. ... Read more
Our 1.6 TDCi did exactly what you describe from day one. Initially the dealer did not believe us but after I had taken the workshop manager out in the car for about an hour he agreed it was not normal. They then changed the stat and renewed the coolant which made no difference. Should be noted that the TDCi Fiesta loan car did not do this at all.
The dealer put in an enquiry to Ford Technical who confirmed they were investigating the issue and new parts would be designed. 5 years later when we sold the car it was still doing exactly the same and no new pars were ever fitted. But it should also be noted that the car always performed perfectly over those 5 years (other than that odd gauge issue) and the guy who bought it from us had it for another 7 with no issues (and he was a mechanic)....
Hi,
I've recently got a PCN for "entering" to the London Congestion Charge zone, whereas I stopped before the line of the sign and reversed out (I was in the street only 1-2m). It's even visible on the PCN photos (that I reversed out). See photo, the line of the sign is 2-3m more in, that just caught that I was about to turn in: us-noi.v-cdn.net/6031891/uploads/editor/03/turzsxd...g... Read more
The first one is interesting (for limited values of interesting). Baroness Walmsley thought she'd paid for two congestion charges but had entered her registration number incorrectly. So she was charged/fined. She appealed and was turned down. So she took it to court and lost. How many thousands of pounds did that cost?
At the time I had some professional involvement in oversight of various Tribunals including London Tribunals. Baroness Walmsley's case was actually really interesting to those in the club!! ...
This evening i approached a Give Way junction onto a main road and stopped. I had to creep and peep to see down the road to my left past houses, so was about a foot over the junctions spaced lines, looking down the road right I saw a car approaching with indicator on to turn left into the road im waiting to pull out of, so I put my breaks on and sat stationary. The car did not turn on approach but continued straight clipping the corner of my drivers side bumper and scraped all along the front of it, crumpling the bumper and shredding my number plate. Both the cars airbags went off and their passenger front wheel pushed back. Can you please tell me who is at fault? Am I at fault due to being sat over the giveway road markings? Any info would be good tia.
Traffic Signs and general directions state that a give way line on the road should not be crossed if it causes another vehicle to brake or change course.
Only you and the other driver are aware if this was infringed?...

Hi, I'm looking at purchasing a Porsche 987 2.7L, does anyone have any first hand experience with these cars? Common faults, experience running day to day with regards to reliability and mpg I could expect?
With the first generation Boxster gaining classic status I kind of thought it may lessen depreciation lost on the 987 purchase too ... Read more
Nice one John, I had forgotten that one.
I think a lot of the IMS bearings were changed at the same time as the RMS....

In those early days, race cars often had a "riding mechanic" to fix problems which were inevitable.
I am in discussion with a private seller to buy a brand new car they have not taken delivery of yet from the manufacturer main dealer (it is awaiting PDI). They want to meet at the dealership on collection day, and do the deal there and then. They want no risk of potentially damaging it on the way home before the deal is done. My main concern is making sure I don’t buy a car that has finance secured against it.
The seller is advising both he and the dealer will be able to confirm it was paid for by bank transfer, so I think that rules out the risk he has finance through the dealer. I know it is possible to get a secured loan against a vehicle you already own, however I think that is very unlikely to be possible for a vehicle you haven’t taken delivery of yet. I know it is possible to get a personal loan, that would not be secured against the vehicle, so that would be fine.
My question is, is there any risk the seller could have a private secured loan secured against a brand new car (ie not through the dealer) which means he could have paid in cash, however still have a loan secured against it? I am unable to find example of that type of loan through google, so wanted to ask if anyone is aware of one. Read more
I'm assuming you're paying a premium to take the seller's place in the queue.
Perhaps you could pay the dealer direct, and simply pay the 'seller' their fee for releasing their place?
