Evening guys. As headline says, can't turn them off using stalk. Normal & fast wiper work, intermittent does not. The only way they go off is when ignition key is removed (takes about 10 secs to stop) Any ideas? Read more
Hi all
Please excuse the 'click bait' subject headline, but in my mind its true!... Read more

I couldn't agree more. None of this is relevant to the OP's problem and unlikely to be of interest....
SUV are often claimed to provide two key advantages over lesser (priced) vehicles. First comes the "safe and commanding feel behind the wheel", claimed by this very website (www.honestjohn.co.uk/guides/best-suv). I have yet to see any empirical evidence of such a claim - a driver's gut feeling may say one thing but many reports say otherwise (e.g. tiny.cc/0s62vz ).
Alleged "safety" considerations aside, and without wishing to dispute the undoubted accessibility considerations of less able-bodied folk and those ferrying passengers in child seats, I am curious about the actual height "advantage". Exactly how many car lengths of visibility advantage is gained by driving a taller variant of a typical family hatchback? If the proliferation of similar vehicles is factored in, is there any advantage at all? Just wondering... Read more
I much prefer the feel of sitting lower down and not tipping around all over the place, but I find it physically uncomfortable.
The battery is just about managing in this cold weather and is ready for a change. Does anyone know if there anything that's likely to be affected when I do the swap - key codes, radio, etc? I've not had a problem swapping a battery in years but it's always worth an ask! Read more
Yikes. I didn't receive notification of this but it was all done very steadily so, with the exception of switching on the headlights, the procedure was followed. All seems well. Thank you for your response and I hope that it proves useful to others.
My colleagues new Civic which has only covered 300 miles since new failed to start and he has had to resort to his 06 Civic diesel while the main dealer sorts the problem out. They are claiming low mileage is the problem but the cold weather May having something to do with it.
I heard of a new Jazz hybrid and Yaris Cross with the same problem and in the case of the Toyota , their appointed recovery company managed to do £500 damage in attempting to start the car. Toyota refused to reimburse the owner to start with but relented because that is what they do , unlike other manufacturers .... Read more
My policy on ANY new product which involves complexity is to NEVER buy in the first 2-3 years of production. This applies to cars, PCs, TVs, satnavs, dashcams etc.
Some people have taken this theory to its logical conclusion - always buy a 'run-out' model to take advantage of a special discount ........
Hi! I’ve had a Cambelt changed in October on my 2017 polo 1.2 tsi and since then the car has been juddering at speeds below 30mph. The revs are all over the place going up with acceleration but the vehicle does not pick up speed. The stop/start stopped working too. The mechanic who did the Cambelt assured the timing is ‘spot on’ changed a vvt hub but the issue continues. Advised me to book it in to VW as there’s a part ‘vanos hub’ that needs adjusting and only VW can do that. Read more
Hiya! Quick update…
First and foremost I’d like to advise that if you are going to have a Cambelt changed - please go to either a VW specialist or get it done at maindealers.
The cowboy who changed my cambelt messed up the job and didn’t have the right tool to adjust it. Thankfully, the VW specialist has found the fault, which was causing a misfire in all 4 cylinders, more so cylinder 1 - caused the spark plug to completely disingtegrate.
The whole Cambelt now has to come off, get adjusted and refitted.
The car was throwing codes for misfires and what the specialist found that in this engine there is no sensor that shows fault codes related to the timing. He said 90% of these engines have 1 but mine doesn’t. Strange. They’ve had the car for 3 days now and I’m glad that they made the decision to not return me the car until it’s fixed and is running properly. My next move would be to chase up the previous guy for a refund!!
Yesterday I backed my wife’s Mazda 2 out of the garage as she was late leaving for work. The engine, push button start with keyless start, was still running when she jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off. 20 minutes later she rang me saying there was a red warning light on the dash in the shape of a key. I suddenly realised that I still had her car key in my pocket!! I told her not to switch off the engine until she got to the office. Fortunately, I had disabled the stop/start function not long after she bought the car new in 2020.
it’s a shock to me that a keyless start car will keep running for miles without the key present. I would have thought that with technology these days that the computer would shut down the engine or apply the brakes in such circumstances. My Hyundai i30 flashes up a message on the dash that the key isn’t present when I get out to deice the windscreen. I find the notion of keyless start so disconcerting when my wife can drive for over 20 miles without the key present with the risk that stalling the engine could have left her stranded in the middle of rush hour traffic. Would the stop/start function have had a similar effect? ... Read more
Yes it is progress - like Apple Car Play, my X3's speed or take a break warnings - but the dinosaurs dont like progress.

Hello all,
Just wondering if in a break down on a motorway in the UK and you have something important you need to get to, do you have to wait for a pick up truck to arrive or can the pick up truck just pick up your car without you being there?... Read more
I bet the insurer is also concerned about the likes of messrs bodgit and scarper's convenient airport parking plc dumping your pride and joy on someone's driveway for a week or two, when anything could happen to it...ie getting dragged unceremoniously down the road and left on a roundabout by an understandably irate homeowner whose action i would applaud.
Saw a bloke on you tube who de iced his screen with a plastic bag with warm water in it. Just worked the bag up and down and the ice went. Just needed warm water as too hot may crack the screen, tried it today and it's a good method. Read more
Yes, I think there is a limited market (people with drives and money). I am returning mine, not because I dislike it in any way, but mostly because I can easily have less on my monthly outgoings without it. My energy contracts are yet to expire but, when they do, I'd like to have plenty of room in my monthly budget to cover them.
I would have another in a heartbeat when things have stabilised again. The power delivery and refinement are addictive. I'm not sure I'd have another Vauxhall, though. £30k plus for acres of black plastic and slightly temperamental electrics is not good value. In fact, I would only lease or PCP any electric car; there's no way I'd want the risk of owning one....
Hopefully we won't get a winter like this one. I stumbled across it while researching cold winter..
When we got back to the UK, it was well below freezing, colder than it is now (possibly -10degC). Don't recall any issue with providing heat and electricity though......

Unfortunately haven't had anything confirmed yet, due to everything being closed over Xmas & also travelling to see family. Will try & get it into someone end of this week ??
