This isn't a joke, although it may be laughable.

What's small, reasonably reliable, has a bit of oomph and costs less than £8,000 (and isn't a Mini)? Read more

Yes, it has a manual gearbox. No, it's not unusual. No, it has a perfectly normal roof.

Apart from the engine being in the back, it's almost entirely unremarkable and I'm almost embarrassed about wasting your time trying to work out what it is....

I'm looking to buy a new used car approx 3 years old. Am currently looking at a Skoda Karoq, BMW 2 Active Tourer, Audi A3 and Toyota C-HR. Does anyone have any opinions on any of these please? Things that are important to me are safety and reliability. Heated seats and windscreen and reversing cameras are nice to have and preferably an automatic. I'm not looking at a hybrid. Budget of no more than £19,000. Thank you. Read more

Tax benefits have helped the wealthy to pay the extraordinary price premium to own an EV, so that they can virtue signal how ‘Green’ they are. It will be interesting to see how these car owners will be able to charge their vehicles, during the severe weather event which commences around the 9th December. It is expected to match the cold and long duration of the 1962/63 winter.

Hi
my knowledge of cars is limited to put it v v mildly, as my post will show.
In short, I have a 2015 2L Disco Sport HSE Luxury - pan roof, white leather, all black wheels, paddle gears, step/running boards, top spec blah blah 75k fsh. But…after two/three years happy motoring the dreaded electrics have started playing up. It’s like a light show on the dash. Still runs great, and due to go in to Jaguar to resolve. I’m toying with getting shot of it, parting with v little/no cash for an older X5, 2011-13, 85-100k on clock. Oh I need seven seater and yes I’m a sucker who likes a badge (note no knowledge of cars….)
Any advice/thoughts? would I just be jumping out of the disco sport fire and into an X5 frying pan?
Ta.

Recently we got a large stone chip in our windscreen and ended up getting the windscreen replaced. Following this we then had cold weather and discovered the heated screen no longer works. The car manual states that a low battery can cause this to not operate, so I charged the battery. Reading online this is a common thing to not work at the same time as the start stop system. The other half then informs me the stop start has also not worked for weeks! (Her car). So, charged battery, stop start seems to work again but still no heated screen.
Had the screen installers back who checked it over and proved continuity on the heating elements and that there was no power from the car. Once they had gone I checked the battery voltage and it had dropped to a reading of 12.2v after car only started a couple of times. Decided as it’s 6 years old it’s time for a new battery. Had a new battery fitted by a well known car parts superstore. (I would usually do this myself but not knowing how to reset the BMS I decided to let the people who know do it).
The screen still does not seem to be working. I can not be sure if the BMS has been reset or not but I have seen some videos online saying to turn on ignition then push rear for five times then hazards three times. This did not appear to work then I found another video for a mondeo saying to turn on the ignition then flash front lights five times and push the brake three times. I still got no flashing battery light to suggest it had reset.

Has anyone any ideas what the correct reset procedure is or what could be at fault with the screen before I end up going to the main dealers? Any help would be much appreciated as I expect the cold weather will return along with my ear ache from her using the scraper. Read more

Thank you for your response elekie&a/c doctor, I have checked both fuses and all are ok. (What a beast to get to, lost some knuckle skin removing the top section of the fuse box to get to the lower one)

I will give it a couple of days and see if it re-learns the battery state (seen suggestions it does if the car is left a long period without being used) and if not it looks like a trip to the dealers.

Thanks again for your response.

My stepson was recently involved in an accident. A car hit him on a roundabout and damaged the front bumper and wing. The other party is saying that they were stationary and that my stepson hit them. The insurance company are offering a 50-50 settlement. His car is worth about £3k (or less). Could someone explain how all this works please? If the car is written off, what value would he receive? The market value of the car or 50% of it? I believed that 50-50 meant that his insurance company would give 50% of the value of the repair and he'd have to pay the remainder and the excess. Many thanks in advance for your thoughts. Read more

Obviously this will affect your stepson's no claim discount if it isn't covered and won't be a "no fault" accident so the premium will rise next renewal.

Hello,

I'm new to driving and need to buy a very affordable first car, but I don't know quite where to start. What is the minimum I should be spending for a run-around like a Polo or Golf? I see a lot of decent looking ones on ebay for £1,750-2,500 that I wouldn't mind driving.... Read more

If looking at then Aygo then you should also include the PSA clones with the same 1.0 Daihatsu engine.

Hi everyone, first post here.

I have a Polo GTI 2018 and I am thinking of getting a 2018 Golf TSI Evo 1.5. Main reason is I would like a more fuel efficient car and some extra luxuries my Polo doesnt have like adaptive cruise control.

Now I won’t have the same horse power but I am not sure which engine to go for should I got for the 1.5 130ps or the 1.0 115ps?

Ive read on this forum people in the past have had issues with the 1.5 engine and we’re waiting for a software update. Was that ever resolved?

Also are there any known issues with these Golfs I need to be aware of?

like with my Polo the heat pump and thermostat leaked, luckily I had extra warranty to fix it but wasn’t aware it was a common Robles until it happened.

any advice appreciated. Read more

I believe the warranty and service package on a new Ferrari can be extended to 15 years.
