Hi all,
Hoping I’m posting in the correct place. For context, I have taken over a family motor trade business and looking for some advice on the following:
Recently sold a 55 plate Mini Cooper - trade sale - and customer informed me 2 weeks after purchase that the breaks had failed. Car had recently passed MOT, and customer had fully inspected vehicle and signed to acknowledge there were no mechanical faults present at time of sale. I had no knowledge of the fault otherwise I would never have had the car on sale. I offered the customer a full refund or as an alternative, to recover the car and have the repairs carried out for her. As she was a distance from me, she took the car to a private garage who ran up a £350 bill. Knowing this had voided her warranty but not wishing to leave her dissatisfied, I offered to help the customer by making a contribution towards the cost of said repairs as a gesture of goodwill. Thank Customer has now asked for a full refund which I have agreed to but she also wants me to cover the £350 repair bill which I have refused to do.
Am I in the wrong here? Any advice hugely appreciated.

My daughter and SIL need to buy a new car. They currently have a 10 reg Clio Dynamique (basically a stretched Clio). No major problems but they are expecting their first child in January and, as they also have a large Golden Retriever, will need a larger car to accommodate child seat, pram/pushchair and dog (plus two adults of course). They are both under 5'9" so no special requirements on legroom.
They would have liked an electric vehicle ideally as they are conscious of environmental impact. However, realistically it is likely to be petrol.... Read more

It appears Tyre City is no more - who they were previously owned by, I don't know, but since 1st Oct some of the outlets have gone (or in my local branch's case, back to) Kwik Fit, others to STS Tyre Pros. The list of which (if you're at all interested) is on their website, link below:
My Tyre City only changed from Kwik Fit just over a couple of years ago. I wonder what happened to the firm? A lack of business due to the pandemic, perhaps?
Tyre City and Kwik are owned by the same company - expect they are doing this so use the bigger brand name of Kwik Fit the STS Tyre Pros that some of them are becoming is owned by Stapletons - also owned by the same company as Kwik Fit!...
Steam powered cars have n't been used for say 200 years.
There has been a lot of innovation since then. I wonder what 200 years year innovation could do to improve steam power?... Read more
A steam car uses two fuels - a combustion fuel to heat the water and the water itself to produce steam pressure to drive the vehicle. This means the car would need a fuel tank and a water tank. It's possible to fit condensing apparatus to the car so that the steam can be captured, cooled back into water and re-used in the boiler but this apparatus is bulky and heavy. ...

I had a 1.4 Venga diesel on hire; probably a 2013 model. Indeed it was lacking torque at low revs, but when wound up a bit it seemed pretty quick.
Hi John, 1st off thanks for this site for helping people, John can you tell me if a replacement engine from a manual car will fit my automatic gearbox please.
Unfortunately it won't.
Saturday Telegraph motoring is now profoundly boring. Electric, electric, electric, "carbon" emissions, massively expensive hatchbacks being called good value, zzzzzz

Used to enjoy reading the Telegraph motoring section with various reviews etc. I don't get the paper now because the section went, HJ's pages were really good.
Sadly rather like the paper overall - a pale shadow of its former self. IMHO the paper (as many other national dailies have) has been on a downward trajectory since the current owners and Editor took over 7+ years ago....
I'm sure there are some others with your principles, but we usually hear about the rest. Your difficulty may be competing successfully with them all :-)
