Saturday Telegraph motoring is now profoundly boring. Electric, electric, electric, "carbon" emissions, massively expensive hatchbacks being called good value, zzzzzz

At least all these batteries are keeping African and Chinese slaves in gainful employment. Read more

Used to enjoy reading the Telegraph motoring section with various reviews etc. I don't get the paper now because the section went, HJ's pages were really good.

Sadly rather like the paper overall - a pale shadow of its former self. IMHO the paper (as many other national dailies have) has been on a downward trajectory since the current owners and Editor took over 7+ years ago....

Usually, wrapping a few turns of rope around them then pulling hard does the trick. Not this time. Nor did a cheap rubber and plastic filter wrench. The only thing that worked was one of these........

And a dry seal needs huge force to break a year or two later, as the OP is asking about....

Hi

I bought a car privately in mid April 21. The car had passed an MOT on 30 March 21, following a subsequent rear shock failure, which should never have passed an MOT, I had the vehicle inspected and retested.... Read more

Thank you for your reply

Yes, you are correct, but unfortunately, you can only challenge corrosion issues within 3 months of the MOT, i missed it by 5-6 days

Checking availability, obviously limited and pricey. Wondering about choice of paint to reduce cost. What are pros cons of metallic v solid paint ? Read more

As previously stated all reasonably modern car will have a clear coat unless it's been badly 're sprayed.

None of our cars have been badly resprayed. In fact none of our cars have ever been resprayed.

My battery charger states it's for engines 1800 cc and over. Does that mean I can't use it to charge a 1600 cc engine? Read more

I bought a Veloster 4 months ago from a massive uk dealership (deleted) & the engine block has suffered a major deep internal failure. 2 independent garages advised a new engine required and dealer has taken back car to investigate further. Suspect they are trying to wriggle out of being responsible for selling a car that does not meet consumer protection law standards. Surely an internal engine block failure is a metal fatigue issue ( as with aircraft ) and could have been present for a very long time before failing after being driven only 2000 miles over 4 1/2 months. Any advice on this would be gratefully received

Hi I'm looking for some advice. My sons car had some work done last year to get it through its mot. Since then the car has only been driven about 10 times as he is still a learner. It was mot'd yesterday and theres around 700 worth of repairs needing done. A similar thing happened with my daughter's car, it had passed last year and hardly been driven then had loads needing done to it. Can someone explain how this can happen, when a car has hardly been used how there can be so much damage? I feel the garage is trying to RIP me off. Read more

Hi all….I got 3 points last October for speeding which are now applied to my license, but in the last few months I got caught speeding 3 more times on the same camera due to taking a divert to work to avoid traffic. I have admitted to being the driver to them all and have so far received 2 replies offering option 1 = £100 fine and 3 points for each or option 2 = request court hearing……..if I choose option 1 for both then that will will put me on 9 points. But when the 3rd comes through do I then choose Option 2 to request court hearing? As that will send me to 12 points and a ban. But I am relied on for my driving for work and child purposes…..or do I request court hearing on one of the first 2 that I have received before the 3rd one comes through? I’m really panicking and don’t know what to do for the best?

I’ve also heard that if you request a court hearing they can punish you even more heavily? Read more

Pressures of work make u do funny things. I have since changed job as all 3 offences were in the work van trying to get to work to avoid being fined for lateness which they do if ur more than 5 minutes late over the whole week.

I don't know how far it was between those average-speed cameras, but the ironic thing is to ask just how many seconds you saved by travelling at 40 instead of 35. If it was a mile, about 13 secs. Was it that critical ?

Reading a road test in Car Magazine between the new Hyundai Ionic 5, the new Audi Q4 e-tron, the Polestar 2 and the Tesla Model 3.

What struck me was despite all three of the others being younger designs than the Tesla, its battery efficiency was still ahead of them, markedly so in the case of the Polestar (and that is without taking into account the benefits of the Supercharger network)... Read more

Leaving aside its environmental qualities, the base model costs £41k.

For around £30k you are into mid-range premium cars - Audi A4, BMW 3 series, Merc CLA together with performance versions of other manufacturers - Octavia VRS, Leon Cupra etc....
