Why do people message "is it still for sale"? And when you reply "It is", they ignore you. Some have no manners either. And referring me to me as 'mate' when I'm not. Read more
I'm looking at options to replace my 2011 Polo automatic, which I have owned from new. Never had any issues with it, but my commute now involves the motorway and I feel a little vulnerable in the Polo in terms of safety/performance/reliability. Looking for another automatic and a Honda Jazz has been suggested based on reliability, higher driving position and roominess, but having test driven a couple I'm not wholly convinced. Started out with a budget of £12k, but found it was quickly moving up to £14k+. If paying that sort of amount I am wondering if there are better options out there? Any advice gratefully considered! I suspect part of the problem is the car feels so light and possibly a little bit tinny with the amount of road and wind noise coming through. As someone who has always driven body on frame vehicles with the stresses being picked up by the chassis and then having to go through rubber bushings before it reaches the monocoque sitting on top, I find most normal monocoque cars have a lot more tyre noise and don't feel so planted on the motorway. I'm old fashioned though and if they had made them in RHD, i'd be driving a Ford Crown Victoria now.
A Jazz is not going to improve things, they are good cars with tardis like dimensions, but they lack refinement. As others have said, try going for something like an Auris as it will be a step above, or if you can reach it, an Avensis, like this one ...
Never seen a dealer photograph a car with a dog in it. Not a good selling point IMO.

In a car with traditional shifter and handbrake, you can keep shifter in [P] and pull the handbrake up. These are visual clues that car won't start to roll.
Now, in a car with non-traditional/monostable shifter, where it always returns to base position after any operation AND with electronic parking brake, how do you get the confidence that after you have left the car it won't start rolling accidentally?... Read more
With most electronic park brakes I’ve ever used - Mazda, from memory, was the exception - they are applied automatically when the ignition was switched off.
I'm glad mine isn't (Audi A8). For those of us who keep their old cars indefinitely, such repetitive unnecessary use of the mechanism is a recipe for eventual failure and expensive repair. I never use the parking brake unless parked on a steep hill.
Reading this article one could be forgiven for thinking that the UK was alone in driving on the left. What nonsense.
Japan drives on the left, so they have no problem making RHD cars for the UK market and the many other countries which drive on the left. These include Australia, India, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa. Read more
This article will surely put people off buying electric vehicles right now if they are to drop significantly in the next few years!
I certainly wouldn't buy one.
There is still not enough electricity to power all these cars if everyone was stupid enough to buy full electric. Once we do reach that point just watch the Kwh rate skyrocket then we are all doomed, least stealing electric by bypassing your meter is easier than stealing fuel ??.
Nothing to do with new car prices going bonkers in recent times then?
Great thing buying a car on finance - for the car makers / dealers that is. It's allowed them to hide huge car price inflation behind monthly payments.
I had my eye on a certain make and spec of car - 6 months ago on Autotrader I found 2 year old ones for £13,000. That same make / spec for 2 year old versions are now all over £18,000.
Looks like I'll be keeping my current car for a lot longer. Read more
Looking through the BBC 'catchup' this morning (for something else entirely), I noticed that the first episode of the 'Clarkson era' Top Gear was available. Looking a bit further, it seems all of the first two series are available anyway, possibly more. Not really a fan of Clarkson, but I was interested enough to download that first episode out of curiosity.
Quite enjoyed it, being a blast from the past. There was a feature on the Citroen Berlingo (which Clarkson really liked surprisingly), the Pagani Zonda and the new Mazda 6 amongst others. Before getting to the £10k (new) Berlingo, Clarkson was standing by a MK1 Focus and MK4 Golf (both 1.6), talking about that class of car being around £12k new!. The Mazda, and this was the top of the range 2.3 (n/a), under £18k!. We were introduced to the trusty Suzuki Liana in its roll as the 'reasonably priced car', and the first star was Harry Enfield. Of course no James May in the those days but Jason Dawe (whatever happened to him?) was there to talk about anything related to buying and selling cars and hot deals (as the facelifted Berlingo was imminent, you could get a new 1.4 petrol for £7.7k).... I paid £12,000 for my wife's new Civic 1.6 automatic in 2002. And £12,000 for its replacement, a Skoda Roomster Scout 1.2TSI DSG in 2014 which was a real bargain. ...

Apologies of this topic has been discussed before. yesterday had my 2014 Toyota Aygo (1.0L) serviced at a local garage where I work. The service included replacement of front brake discs and pads, 3 spark plugs, air & pollen filters, oil filter and oil. My commute to work is 20 miles. Normally, from Monday to Friday, with a full tank, I use up 3 bars worth of fuel. After the service yesterday however, I used up 2 bars on the way home - and another 2 bars on the way in to work this morning! There's no smell of petrol and the car drives smoothly. My first reaction is to take it straight back to the garage. But just wanted to check here in case anyone has experienced anything like this before - or if I'm overlooking something. Thank you Read more

Sold this morning to a trader who drove up from London to Suffolk. With all the hassle from numpties I nearly sold it for scrap. Glad it will live on, given it had been in the family since 2002.
