Is this a big job, the unit is a double din touchscreen, with NAV, and reverse cam, but the standard radio sucks, no DAB, and the maps are slow and outdated, CARPLAY would be much better. I can pull the old unit out, just fine, many connectors to the rear, i can't see the 'upload pics' option, i took several!
Has steering wheel controls too, but not bothered about those, i do however want to retain the rear parking cam (for her...)... Read more

There's a database set up & used by car insurance companies. Heavy damage & write-offs are listed.
However there is a major hole in the scheme....
We were all misled into buying Diesel cars, looks as if exactly the same is going to happen with anything electric or hybrid before long. There will be hidden charges creeping in.

There is an easy solution to the problem of 'lost' road tax on electric vehicles.
Require all vehicles to have an annual MOT at which the mileage of each vehicle is recorded. After the 1st year, all vehicles can be charged on the previous years mileage.
This would be equitable for all road users and be easy to charge as the Government could require all vehicle owners to either pay the amount as a one-off payment or be charged monthly via direct debit.
Just sat through a programme my wife recorded. Old Astra four youngsters driving like they stole it. Got sufficiently ahead of the cops. Decamped and scattered. They managed to catch one or two but could not prove which one was driving. So all let go with no further action. These people will ultimately keep doing this until they are stopped and or kill an innocent person.
Can anyone see why all occupants who knowingly allowed themselves to be carried in an illegal car by a youngster not Old enough to have a licence. Why the law does not use a joint enterprise approach and charge all equally? Irrespective of who was actually driving? It was an old programme and maybe they do now , but it seemed like a glaring loophole. Read more
Only then would there be any chance of them doing their jobs as parents and instilling some kind of discipline on their offspring.

Hi, so basically a couple of years ago I got a speeding ticket and 3 penalty points, I completely forgot to tell my insurance and even on renewal I didn’t tell them so I’ve been insured with them for a couple of years and they knew nothing about my points. This year when I renewed my policy I remembered to add in the points that I got a couple of years earlier, and now my current policy that I’ve just made, has everything updated. I received a letter where they asked me to send them my second part of my license because they found some discrepancies on their database (I imagine it’s the fact that on my old policies with them I didn’t declare my points) but obviously these are expired policies where I never made a claim, what can they do once they see that I didn’t update my info on the old policies?
Many thanks Read more
Yeah the new policy that I have is with another company which I didn’t know was owned by my previous insurance company.I don't believe that makes much difference, as insurers share a lot of personal info - they have to, for obvious reasons.
They sure do. I've not had to show proof of NCD for many years whenever I change insurer...
Hi everyone. Looking for some technical advice for a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport 225/40/18Y for a F40 M135i xdrive.
i want to replace the Bridgestones on the car.
however there appears to be two different types of Goodyear supersport.
One specification is XL and the other is not?
Can I use the XL tyre on my car please? Most tyre pricing seems to suggest the XL tyre.
I wanted to understand the differences please, and if either tyre can be used.
Thanks

Many tyres are XL these days. The manual on our 1.6 2012 Mazda 3 doesn’t specify XL but they come up with XL on tyre sites so that is what I had fitted. Goodyear as it happens. The ride is fine.
Also many backroomers fit Michelin Crossclimates and, as far as I know, they are all XL. Since HJ himself moved on there is less coverage of these on the site but I don’t recall ride and handling on them as XLs being an issue....
Just a quick question.
I've just looked at a 7 year old Kia soul which seemed quite nice however when ever you shut a door it makes a sound that sounds like a little tap on the roof from the outside would . Is this normal and why is this. ... Read more
I understand everything your all saying I'm just trying to decide if I'm being over critical or that there maybe a previous issue.
I did just have a thought about ringing the Kia dealer who did all the serviceing except the 4th year but over that 2 year period only did 7k then went back into the same dealer for all the others . So I'll keep looking around
Gee, what a bonus. I'm sure the 12p a litre rise over the past 3 weeks made trhis 'announcement' all the greater. Meanwhile, £££more goes to the government via fuel taxes. What a joke. Read more
Hi, I have a serious question to ask about something that happened to me regarding a dealer illegally changing another garage service details. This is what happened, i made a enquiry for a Seat Leon with (no naming and shaming) about service history and more details they sent me a personal presentation video showing me the car and talking how good it is and all that and in the video they showed me the service history of the car and everything seemed fine so I agreed to come and see the car in person and was very happy with it I then asked the dealer about the timing belt as the car had 80k miles and I was told the team will check the history and if it wasn't done recently then the belt will be changed before it departs from the showroom, I then bought the car and was very happy with the outcome until that same day I looked at the service history and nothing was marked as timing belt was done but it was ticked on the previous service that the belt was changed but I knew right away that's 100% incorrect so I went back to the personal video that was a video personally made for me and that same page had no tick on the belt being replaced so instant I knew this was illegal and was fraud. I went back to the dealer and the manager was very unhappy that someone in his staff team would do this as they have committed a crime by tampering with with another garages service history, he checked with his service department and they confirmed the belt was not changed because it was recently done (even when it wasn't) so i got my money back only even when this could have been a more serious issue as I could have been driving down the motorway and that thing snaps on me and the car would have lost power steering and the brakes, so I made a complaint about this issue and was told this could even be a legal matter because even if I got my money back the dealer or someone in the staff team committed a crime. So my question is what should I do with this matter and what are the chances of having a case for complaints or even a legal matter. Any info is much appreciated Thanks.

Tell them you want the £200 and video evidence that the timing belt is replaced for the new buyer, or you will go to small claims, trading standards and the local newspaper. That way they might learn a lesson or they'll continue with the same shoddy practice which is a disgrace. Send a copy to manager and director. This was no honest mistake!!!
Hi all, the owners handbook doesnt even mention glow plugs in the index, i never spot the glow plug light on the dash, so how do i 'warm' them, before starting? It always starts, but all the diesels i ever had, required waiting 3 seconds for the glow plug light to go out!
Is there a method for a start stop engine, with push start button? cheers Read more
Modern common rail diesels rarely use the glow plugs for cold start unless the outside temp is well below 5 degrees C . They are more likely to be activated during the dpf regen process .
Glow plugs are mainly used nowadays to reduce post - cold start diesel exhaust smoke rather than simply as an aid to actual starting, They can remain energised and heating for a short while after a cold start, dependant on air and coolant temperature, despite the fact that the preheat light is not illuminated.
Witnessed by how MOH starts either of our diesels even if it's zero degrees or lower, she just jumps in and turns the key and starts them like a petrol engine, they start within 2 to 3 revs....
Plenty of double din fascia adaptor kits with or without steering wheel control module. A good unit with an av input socket should take the camera , but check the wiring fittings. Install I would estimate to be around 1-2 hrs , depending on unit purchase.
