Hello,
I know this is a question that might annoy some people but…
There’s a 2007Jag estate with a full MOT going for £1,500 locally.
Only downside I can spot is that it’s got almost 190k on the clock.
Is it realistic to expect a car of this age and mileage to last much longer?
What should I look for and ask about if I go and view it?
It just has a tow bar and big boot which I occasionally need.

Apologies if this has previously been covered.
I am assuming that petrol is not drawn from the very bottom of the tank into the fuel pump?... Read more
I also drained the tank via the drain piug on my UK Nissan Sunny, after accidentally putting diesel in it. No sign of water, so maybe the ethanol in UK petrol took it out.
EDIT Looked it up. No ethanol prior to 2008, so my theory isn't supported by this anecdotal evidence. ...
hi all , so , a/c condenser got a bit wee dunt and burst. it was replaced by a fully competent local mechanic but he didnt have the facility to re gas it. ats euromaster had an offer on so i took it there, when i went back to collect it the guys said they couldnt do it as the lines got abnormally hot but didnt know why, ,maybe mech had done something wrong, later that day they called me to say the same thing happened to another car they tried to re gas so must be a fault with their equipment and they would get me back when its fixed. 2 weeks later they take it back in but again the lines are very hot so didnt work.
the guys there dont know why this might be, anyone here got the answer.? cheers

Are they trying to use the wrong gas? R134a was used in most new cars until 2017 at the latest - since then it a more environmentally R1234yf. The Kona model was introduced 2017 so it should be the newer gas.
I think this needs the attention of a proper air con specialist.
So, did a first brim to brim.

Have got a speed warning set ? Easy to set inadvertently when resetting the trip counter.
Interesting, the reasons can be debated, but the numbers appear genuine.

Are they run in yet? Read Irv Gordon's story of his 3 million miles in a Volvo P60 (if memory serves me right.) The car had visited every US state bar Alaska and Volvo shipped it out there to bring up the 3 million.
Yes but to be fair that B18 motor did get rebuilt a couple of times.
HI,
I've discovered that a second hand car we are about to buy does not have a spare wheel and I think I'll need to buy one for peace of mind.... Read more
After greasing the studs and applying polythene, I can undo them (just) with one hand.
I thought this wasn't usually recommended as there is a danger of the studs/nuts coming loose. Usually torque settings are for dry threads....

He has shown me modern timing chains which hardly look strong enough for a child's push bike, no comparison with the duplex roller chains you would find on 1960s cars, they may well need pampering for long life.
I too was surprised by the thin frail-looking chains on the W12 cut-away demo engine seen on a pedestal at the Dresden Glass Factory in 2007. I suppose the component metal(s) would be of far superior quality than those in my TR7's chain. ...
Hi, newbie here looking for some help!
Yesterday I went to check out an old Lada the seller had advertised as being from 1979 and hence with the status of a historic vehicle (v. important for me as I live within the ULEZ!). I checked the registration plate on the DVLA's website and it's down as being registered for the first time 01/01/1979 and he has the logbook with the same date. All seems to add up!... Read more
I get the appeal (robust simplicity) but I hope you’ve driven one before committing to using one as a daily, they’re pretty horrid things to drive and greedy as a Range Rover
Although I don't remember mine being horrid to drive, trying before buying is good advice. Very heavy and vague steering on these. Not just because it was unassisted but because the Russians changed them from the (precise) rack and pinion steering (of the Fiat 124/5) to worm and roller, thinking it would cope better with the terrible quality of their roads. I'm pretty sure the Lada got heavier duty suspension for the same reason. They also used thicker gauge steel to (hopefully) fend off harsh winter weather. ...
Much the same as both are to EU standards AFAIR....
