Well I thought the cars used on TG's SIARPC were probably scrap once they were finished with, but apparently not.
Hi all
Had a bump at the local supermarket carpark. Details aren't important. Neither of us was admitting liability. So we exchanged details and I said we would leave it up to the Insurance companies to sort out. All reasonably polite.... Read more
Motor insurance database is shared across all insurers and police. So easy to get details.
I recently purchased a car and this website was particularly useful in making a decision as to what car to look at. I was particularly concerned about MPG as I do a fair but of milage.

The tool was developed under the original ownership of the site. Under the new ownership, a year or so ago, much of the site has been monetised. In the new environment its unlikely that a consumer-focused, manufacturer agnostic car choosing tool would be developed. This is not a criticism of the site, it’s the way of the world and the only way of supporting it as free to users.
Good as it was in the past the site struggled to succeed as a business.

You need real legal advice;
You sold the car and as such are no longer the legal owner, whether you still have the v5 or not, or even if you are paying the DVLA monthly...
Hi all,
I’ve placed an order for a new Ford Focus Estate, I went for the 1.0 MHEV 125ps engine.
I’m going to be using this mostly for driving round town, school runs etc that’s why I went for that engine. But occasionally we’ll be doing long trips for family holidays. This will consist of
2 adults, children, prams, fully laden roofbox and a golden retriever in the boot.
I’m now concerned the engine might be a bit on the lighter side to handle this kind of load. Our current car is a BMW 320d and that handles it no problem.
Could anybody offer any advice on this? Should I be looking to upgrade the engine or not.
Thanks in advance. Read more
125 is easily enough power, more than 25% more than our old Focus 1.6 Zetec estate at 98. Also, torque is better - 125ftlb v. 111. I liked to drive fairly briskly and even loaded up it was satisfactory, although the auto box 'kick-down' helped to make effortless full use of the engine. Modern cars have ridiculously large reserves of power which, owing to increasing congestion and the now ubiquitous speed limits, are rarely used.
I'm not surprised there aren't more cars with suspension and steering damage cause by these stupid road calming methods. I am amazed that there is not a impact rating standard, I can drive over these road humps and on the same road can experience a soft experience or a hard jolt experience. It seems that the flat topped humps are the worst. Yet having complained to the council 'they all meet the specifications.
In the last 9 years I have had 4 springs snap on various cars and I do take my time driving over these not like some i****s that go over them at speed. Read more
Brake screeching and warning lights would not come under damage the majority of the time. Someone wants high figures to concern people and be noticed. My brakes squeal when reversing off my drive and I know they are not damaged, I strip and clean them regularly together with the servicing.
hi am looking for a smallish cheap car to run and insure and tax which is reliable. Needs to have room for a pram and maybe up to two dogs.
I haven't had a car for years so have no idea.... Read more
Excellent. Both look fresh in the pictures. I just carried out an Mot history check on both and there’s no great fears to note. The Hyundai has an advisory for the last two Mot’s relating to windscreen damage on the offside but it’s not in the drivers line of sight so it’s not an mot fail. Look at it carefully though as it may be a distraction for you. I couldn’t stand having scuffs or large chips on the windscreen. The Mot is short also (1st Dec) so the dealer will need to put a fresh one on it. Walk away if he refuses.
The Toyota has a clear Mot history aside from pitted and worn front brake discs in the last two tests, so I’d factor in the cost of fitting new discs and pads to the front. There’s nothing else to note. The Yaris is the better made car, it’s cheaper to run and it’ll hold its value better. It’ll be running long after underbody rust has killed the Hyundai. But again being a private sale there’s a few added risks. That said, there’s nothing I love more than turning up at some old buddies house and seeing an immaculate Honda Jazz or Toyota Yaris parked there with a load of service stamps in the book. Just don’t pay too much for it. He’ll’ve been offered £3500 tops as a trade in elsewhere so £4000-£4200 is a nice win for them.
Been looking for a litre of Kia specific oil to carry, but KIA no longer sell them.
Was offered a slightly different spec vauxhall oil @ £23 a litre.... Read more
This is not a big deal either way, but I top up to the max unless an oil change is imminent.
Doesn't seem worth the effort to do anything else, and its a bit of a safety margin in case a leak develops and isn't noticed....
A month ago I bought a bike and saw the vendor post the V5 at the time of sale. I’ve been fretting whether the V5 was ever going to come and this morning the postman delivered it.
Just posting this to warn others that the DVLA is slow these days. Read more
With my over 75 licence renewal coming up I’ll lose my entitlement to driving vans over 3.5 tonnes and also trailers unless I take the same medical as for an HGV.
After reading this I think I will not bother and just lose the entitlement . Shame because my son has a 3.5 tonne Transit which I drive occasionally....
Main dealer has diagnosed the transmission control module to be the reason I get these breakdowns with car stuck in neutral and 'check system' warning light. An independent garages I know and trust did have a look at the error codes and said it was something only the main dealer could do.
This replacement is as much as the car is worth, however it is in otherwise good condition and I'm happy with it (though it is over 100k miles now). My fear is having this replaced and the problem isn't fixed, and Honda then just want to replace some other component.... Read more
Sounds like its an iShift - in which case don't spend a penny on it and get what you can from WBAC etc.. iShift will become a money pit.
