So a neighbours dad bought a 2014 kuga diesel auto a couple of years back for her, not serviced since, as far as I am aware, no gearbox service either since new (it's a powershift) and all of a sudden (no surprise) a transmission error warning. switched off engine, waited, restarted and then complete breakdown after 4 days...
Every cat she has had in the past 7 years has had terminal gearbox problems.. previous was DSG.... Read more

The reason I ask is that it says it's french registered. I don't know your circumstances but if you are not prepared to have an online wrestling match with the french system for re-registering a car - I would steer clear of it.
I had a ford fiesta 2017 Ecoboost, I hit a curb on a roundabout going at about 30MPH and the front left wheel is bent inward. The passenger side SEAT airbag went off and the Passenger curtain airbag also went off. Anyone help me in regards too if the car is a write off? I have a picture off the wheel but you cant see inside the arch just how bent the wheel is. The alloy and tire seemed fine but i suppose you cant tell until there opened up. Can anyone help?

Really? i thought you could just use puncture repair and blow into it?
I’ve been asked by Freind for suggestions for a replacement to an ageing Daihatsu Copen. They love their Copen which they have had from new but it’s getting harder to get parts. The challenge being they don’t want to go any bigger. The best I could come up with is a Fiat 500e which is still a fair bit bigger. Read more
The leasing rates are surprisingly reasonable. The ridiculous list prices serve only to push people into the never-ending PCP or lease life. It’s really the only realistic way to run an electric car. Buying is far too expensive, a subsidised PCP or lease is cheaper but you could always lap up the PCP subsidy and repay the loan if you’ve the credit or the means. To buy a used one means you’ll probably run into battery degradation and crippling depreciation as it reaches the stage where it becomes useless.
My son's current and previous employer want fuel receipts when claiming his 45p business mileage expenses. I've been retired six years now, but my employer never requested receipts, I just claimed miles x 45p and it was paid.
Does anyone know if HMRC rules have changed? My employer was a large insurance company. They understood tax and would have taken advantage of any saving had it been available. Read more
As a book keeper I am familiar with the VAT rule, I worked for a computer software company, lots of business miles driven in staff own cars, everyone had to provide VAT receipts to cover the fuel, and copies of car insurance certificates showing cover in place for business usage!
After a brief interest in Mazda and again complete apathy from the local dealer I've decided to buy a new 1.5 Civic sport. Couple of questions as this is my first new car :

I thought modern thinking was to thrash it within the first few miles of its life (it probably has been by the delivery driver) to bed the rings in. I've seen and heard of several new cars that have become oil burners despite being carefully run-in by the first owner.
I would say it's not thrash it but mixed driving including giving it some beans every now and again. I first did this on a 1300 Astra new in 1989 - was always a surprisingly nippy car after that and no oil burning. Last new car I had was a 1.4 Octavia - again after the same treatment and in the 19 years of family ownership was not an oil burner except when it suffered a blocked engine breather valve for a month or so....
Drove all the way to Wales from Brighton, then travelled within Wales. The car worked fine. The following morning, it wouldn't start. The breakdown service we use could find no faults when the recovery person put his diagnostic equipment on the engine. He checked the car over and was perplexed. He said it was probably the EGR Valve.
The car engine turned over but wouldn't start.... Read more
May be an idea to check the wiring to the engine Ecu . Unfortunately not easy to access . Sits in plastic box ,forward of the left front wheel, behind the bumper.
What a daft place to put it ....
So I am wondering do all uk garages have the same procedures for car repairs?
Basically I had a turbo replaced, and a month later the turbo has failed. Cut a long story short, the car still had faults, and the garage tried to diagnose the actual fault. They cleaned out the EGR valve and replaced the MAP sensor seal. The fault then narrowed it down to a mechanical fault with the turbo. I believe the turbo would be fine if they had cleaned it before replacing the turbo. They said it was full and dirty, so I'm thinking because of that it caused the turbo to fail. ... Read more
I was mentioning about the egr valve, the garage said it was full and dirty. So I would imagine it was full or carbon build up or door something like that. I just want to know should that of been cleaned out before replacing the turbo?
For pcp schemes, if your actual mileage is a lot less than contracted is there any recourse? Just thinking, there must loads of people not achieving their declared mileage because they are working from home now? Read more
Thanks. So if you’re planning to hand it back you need to be pretty accurate with your mileage estimate.
BigG's son here , just want to say thank you for the code.
