My 2004 Trajet has just failed MOT, the "major." defect will be straightforward for a mechanic to repair, but the "minor" defect is proving a headache - missing bump stops both sides rear axle. Bump stops for other cars seem to be around £10 each, but the only place that can quote to supply me is a hyundai dealer, at £82 each.

I'm reluctant to spend this on an old, high-mileage car, but it also seems a shame to scrap it for something minor.... Read more

How about spring assisters? I remember fitting some that were effectively long bump stops. Made the back end very stiff and uncomfortable for back passengers, but stiffened it up no end and improved the handling:

I lease a car. From new. Now 4yrs old and end of lease. I am retiring. I want to keep the car however uk tax laws say I can't buy it. But a mate can. So one of my mates buys it. I lend him the money, v5 goes in his name for a week then he sells it for a £1 to me. I know this means I'm 3rd owner...but I know the vehicle.

PCP /Lease can have the option to buy the car (or any other piece of equipment) at the end of the lease.

Some leases do not allow the purchase by the lessee at the end of the lease....

Just all seems off really. I have said either get rid or get it to BMW for specialist diagnostic and of course get itemised invoice of work carried out from him.

Yes, it does sound off, but I'm not sure what comeback you might have. ...

I’m looking at peugeot 5008’s from 2018 onwards. Can anyone tell me whether the auto gearbox is a torque convertor type or a clutch type (like dsg units). Dealer told me single clutch unit but I’m sure I read torque convertor online (unless that related to older model)?? Read more

I currently drive a 2013 Merc A-class Sport that I have owned for 6.5 years - the longest I have ever owned a car, but now looking to switch back to Japanese, having previously had two Accords and SHMBO is on her third Civic (2005 plate with over 108k and still going strong)..

We may drop to just 1 car and ideally Honda HRV but at our budget £14k they are like rocking horse do-da and mainly blue. No offense to anyone with a blue car but blue just doesn't do it for me. My leanings are to a 2016/2017 civic EX or 2018 Mazda 3 Sport Nav.. I'm 75 and Mrs is 10 years behind me. I'm thinking automatic this time.... Read more

I had a manual 2012 1.8 Civic for six years. Tastes differ but I think it’s an attractive car and that the interior Is a class above the 2012 Mazda 3 my wife currently drives. The more recent Mazda, after hers, is however much improved. The Civic also has a very large boot and wide opening rear doors if that is important. On the 2012 Mazda the tyres are a third (or so) dearer than the Civic due to Mazda using a less popular size. They are not extreme profile but relatively expensive. I am not sure if later models use more common sizes.

As for spare wheels the Civic comes with a gunk aerosol but also with a jack. An OEM space saver is available relatively cheaply and just bolts to the boot floor without need for a polystyrene filler. I am not sure if a full size wheel would fit in the boot but it may do....

Be grateful for any help please as all the Subaru dealers I've dealt with have been rubbish.

Need two new tyres for the car but apparently the original Bridgestone Duellers are no longer made. ( Pretty poor given the car is just 3 years old) but seem to recall that the 4 wheel drive system on Subs needs all tyres to be the same. Would that be the case? ... Read more

Thanks daveyjp sound advice. Will go to the local dealer asap but suspect they will be fitted with Bridgestone Turanza tyres from searching online.

Where's all these cyclists? Seems Boris has it wrong again. In Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has employed Chris Boardman as a cyclist guru to help spend millions of taxpayers money on cycle paths, there is one near me that must have cost a couple of million at least. It's nice to see it used by at least two cyclists. With the narrowing the roads and widening of pavements (why??) life for the cyclist is even more dangerous. Read more

I have a 2001 1.9tdi Passat and the adaptor which goes between the hydraulic pipe and the slave cylinder of the clutch had broken. VW say part is no longer made. Does anyone know where I might find one, or a solution using different slave maybe? Read more

If you can take a photo of the part then one of the on-line breakers should at least be able to tell you what the actual part is called. I've used VW Audi Breakers Melksham years ago who were very helpful, I'm not sure if they are still trading but might be worth investigating.
