My car had a disk and pads replacement about 3 weeks ago and since then whenever I go on a winding road my left wheel becomes slightly hotter than the right one, and there is a sharp noise whenever I turn right or left, but the problem does not appear on a straight road. Car does not have a stuck break mechanism, if I drive on a motorway nothing happens, problem only happens on a road with loads of curves, after about 10-15 minutes of driving.
Went back to the mechanic (big service, about 6 ramps), looked at the breaking system, says there is nothing wrong with it, probably from the front wheels. Changed all 4 wheels (I had the winter tires on so I put the summer ones that had different rims, exactly the same size). Problem still happens. ... Read more
Drive along and suddenly the power disappears and it just idles smoothly unless I release the accelerator momentarily and then it's fine again. Intermittent fault, sometimes only happens after 1/2 hour driving. Sometimes several times. No dash lights on and my garage says there are no fault codes. I'm guessing the throttle body potentiometer ???
Has anyone got any idea. The car has been utterly reliable till now.... Read more
These old Zafira A models are pretty reliable . I would be checking connectors to the throttle pedal, throttle body and engine ecu . (Bolted to the engine on these) .
We're in need of a pair of new taps for our cloakroom wash basin. Looking for a decent make but relatively inexpensive. Thinking of Swirl or Bristan. Which would be best? Read more
I live in a hard water area and limescale is the killer for ceramic washer taps. Flow rate is another disadvantage. I've found it impossible to obtain any other type. Interestingly, I did once find something on youtube instructing how to remove limescale from ceramic discs.
It is difficult to find taps that have the jumper and washer system. They are available but they tend to be limited in design, usually the old fashioned tap heads which of course never suits SWMBO. My plea for function over form fell on deaf ears. I think if she had to replace or repair them herself this would change. I replaced a Franke mixer tap for a standard washer one at my previous house. Free discs from Franke never really worked well for any length of time. You pays your money etc etc.........
Hi,
I have an opportunity to buy a really cheap car but obviously there is no free cheese... or is there? It's a stolen recovered write-off... basically, the car was written off by the insurer before the police recovered it. Is there a way to "legalise" it to boost its resale value? Mind you, I'm not talking about shady tactics. I'm just wondering if there is a totally above-board way to make the car more appealing to buyers? Read more

Export it? Perhaps to Ireland?
Next year, I have decided I may part with my 2012 Honda Jazz, great car but bigger kids require bigger car. I also need something for lugging stuff which includes 2 elderly Grandparents comfortably.
Originally I had my sights on a mini SUV like the Honda HRV but I am thinking a compact SUV like a RAV4 or a Honda CRV is a better value. I also giving a lot of thought into a Hybrid.... Read more

IIRC my Pug 205 went to Nice for about £4500, which at the time was rather OTT for a 1.6 CTi. I congratulated the seller for his good fortune as I had sold it for much less a few years before :-(

Electronic automatic retractable tow bar is not working.
Car is 5 years old, I've had it for 14 months and never used the tow bar. I need it in a couple of days so thought I would test it first. Saw how to do it on a youtube video and tried the same thing on mine today without success.... Read more
Electric tow bar on one of these is a rare feature. I’ve never seen one . There is an electronic control module in the system , so any faults may be accessible through the car’s diagnostic facility.
I disturbed my oil pressure gauge (Smiths OP217) trying to fit a new illumination bulb.
Now, when turned off, the needle only drops to about 9 psi. Is there a way to adjust the instrument to get it to drop to zero without removing it (don't want to disconnect the pressure pipe)?... Read more
I'd second checking for a kinked pipe - be careful though old small oil pipes might be brittle now and easily split. I once damaged an oil gauge pipe on a Ford Capri which took a while to spot and my goodness the oil that ran down to the footwell made things rather dangerous and the carpet was never the same again. Thinking about it I think that was replacing a dash instrument light bulb as well. [EDIT - from what I can remember that is, just worked out it was 36 years ago!]

From what I've seen and the wording of the ads, they're trying to set up a class action suit, a bit like in the USA. However, I don't think they happen in the UK do they?
There are similar provisions in UK - or at least England and Wales. There's even a textbook on the subject: ...

Once the problem is fixed, the system will self reset . No diagnostic equipment needed.
Went in today, apparently the drive shaft is to blame, a new one is only about 50 pounds, so next week I'm changing it (mechanic already ordered the new one). Never would have guessed. Thanks for the help, if it wasn't for you guys suggesting it may be the bearing the mechanic would never have looked there.
