Quite fancy the 3rd generation X3 as a family car but don't want to burn a hole in my wallet. How about its driving experience of the basic SE model in comparison the 2nd generation just a year ago (2017)? The 2018 X3 costs a lot more but I am not sure if it worth so much.

Someone posts on Youtube it is exhausting to drive X3 over long hours. I haven't done this myself and a test drive may not be helpful. Is there any suggestion on this? ... Read more

Bought via auction without V5 as a CAT S write off.

I have insured the van however have just realised that I cannot Tax and MOT it as I do not have the V5 or the previous sellers details.

So my questions are -

1 - do I need to wait 6 weeks (or longer during covid) for the V62 postal application to DVLA for a log book to run it course or is there a more efficient way for this to happen.

2 - the van will be repaired by next week - once we have the van MOT ready do we have to do anything more than MOT it and Tax it to get it back on the road

thanks in advance Read more

For anyone interested here is how this played out.

Van arrived from Action down in England via transporter (bought based on online listing only)...

I would like to purchase a reliable hatchback and I was considering a battery owned Renault Zoe, but do you agree correct a used Yaris will hold it's value better? If it's a Yaris are there any models more suitable than others?

The car is being used for school runs and drop offs, about 7000 per annum mileage, 5 door, A.C would be a nice to have. (Are there any models to avoid?)... Read more

electric battery packs degrade rapidly beyond 7yrs of age and the cost of replacement is crippling,

Is it same situation with hybrid car batteries? If the battery capacity is very low say 10% of original will a hybrid simply switch to petrol engine most of the times?...

Wow, the media are in overdrive pushing electric/hybrids but joe/joess public are realistic. Not buying into the dream.
I am looking at a Dacia at a realistic price fuelled by gasoline which fills up in 10 minutes and takes me 400 miles. Give me an electric car that does that and cost the same and I am in. Read more

Give it a few years and I am sure you will have that.

I am a recently passed advanced driver, but I have a few concerns about the doctrines which I would like to share over time to gain the opinions of others.

The first one is :"only indicate when you can see someone else that it will benefit"... Read more

<< But it does draw attention for drivers already on the mainline who may be half awake. >>

Well, maybe - if they are awake enough. For most of us it would be a more useful signal if it meant that the BMW/Merc/Audi driver was immediately heading for the fast lane :-)

If a vehicle is uninsured it is liable to be seized by the police if it is flagged up on their ANPR system. Does anyone know what the consequences are for driving around in a car that is not taxed ? Would that also receive the same attention on the ANPR ?

And, importantly, does driving an untaxed vehicle nullify the insurance cover ?... Read more

Uninsured vehicles - Police are only interested if they can stop the car when being driven, and then vehicles can be seized.

But it is a DVLA responsibility to monitor compliance with the "continuous insurance" legislation (s144A RTA). All vehicles must be insured in their own right unless they are declared off-road by means of a SORN. Offences under that section carry a fine only, with no endorsement or points....

hi we have a drop kerb on property for disabled driver,Our problem is our neighbour next door up she comes up the street drives on the path on our drop kerb to drive all the way up to her house then she drives back on the road to reverse back into her garden bering in mind she doesn't even have a drop kerb outside her house,So i know she shouldn't be driving on over the public path to park in her garden,My problem is im disabled and a few times had narrow misses with her car what i mean is ive stood on the public path outside my house to talk to another neighbour when she flys up the street and mounts the drop kerb outside my house to drive on path all the way up to her house,I mean im not fast on my feet but had a few near counters with her car getting me,Ive reported her to police to which they had a word but she still does it,And i was wondering if i could get highways or someone to fit a bollard or something purely for my safety Read more

What a lost opportunity these past few decades have been for our car makers. The successful MGB sold almost 400,000, but the TR6 fewer than 100,000 and the TR7 only a few more than that. (I'm not counting the toy 'Spridgets'.) Then.....zilch. Enter the Toyota MR2 - well over 400,000, then the Mazda MX5, well past a million now. Where did we go wrong? Read more

Exactly SS, in contrast to German industry where companies are still very much family owned and therefore not constrained by institutional shareholders. Miele being a very good example for instance, top quality kit that lasts a lifetime.

Not just that, but British (and American) firms are far more likely to be headed up by financial people than those with a technical background in the product they make....

Warning

I was after a particular car. No longer in production.

Main dealers selling at silly prices as so few around. Only about 9 for sale in the country....
