Garp242

Hi All. Hoping someone will be able to help with a bit of a head-scratcher !!
I'm getting a code P0444 - EVAP Control System - Open Circuit.
I've done all the checks on the Purge Valve itself, and all seems to be working ok.
Continuity - OK
Resistance - 25 ohms
Audible click when connected to a 9v battery
No vacuum at idle when feed disconnected

But when I checked the voltage at the Purge Valve connector, it reads 3.9 volts - Should it be reading battery voltage ??

It triggers the Check Engine light, which when erased, comes back on when engine is started. There are no other fault codes present other than P0444.
I'm assuming this is going to be an MOT failure as it is related to Emissions.

Any help greatly appreciated ... Read more

You need to load test the power supply wire with a bulb . The circuit is fused , so could be a bad connection at the fuse location. Could be one in the engine bay fuse box . Not sure which one , as there are so many different levels of fuse box fitted to these Golf models . Shouldn’t be too difficult for an auto tech to sort this out .

Just an update on the Golf - Purge Valve - Open Circuit problem

After doing a bit of trawling on Google, I found out that it was either F23 or F24 in the engine bay, that controlled the feed to the Purge Solonoid (N80) ... ...

Hi guys,

Just saw an ad on Youtube from these no-win no-fee lawyers regarding refunds for owners of Vauxhall diesel vehicles purchased between certain dates because apparently Vauxhall mis-sold the vehicles by claiming better-than-actual diesel emissions etc etc.... Read more

Hi

Looking for a mid size manual for my Mum. She does mainly local driving - up to 4k a year - with the occasional motorway drive once a month. I was looking at the Jazz but got put off by the high rate of catalytic converter thefts (especially in my area).... Read more

Agree with the Fiesta 1.25.

But as well as that, I'd also throw in the Mazda 2 1.5 as you can get in to the first of the current shape (2015/2016) for that budget. Lovely little car and very reliable....

Much theoretical attention is given to the design and fine tuning of a car's weight distribution and suspension. Considering that most cars have only one occupant for most of its mileage, is any allowance made for the unbalancing effect of a body weight of around 75kg on one side of the car? Are they designed so that there is slightly more weight over the passenger side wheels? The lighter the car, the more important this should be. Read more

Not such a big deal if one assumes the vehicle without people weighs in at 1200kg evenly spread from side to side.

And I doubt that the major mass - engine plus transmission - has its centre of gravity on the centre-line of the vehicle either, at least on a transverse engine vehicle. But on a fore-and-aft setup there will be some angular momentum tending to rotate the car as well ?

Hi, looking for some advice from the community on vehicles we should consider as we look to change our family car this spring. We have had Mazda 3s for the last 6 years and are finding them a little small for our needs as the family grows. Too small both in terms of cabin space as the kids approach teenage years and certainly boot space where even a day at the beach with a couple of bodyboards has us struggling to fit everything in - let alone a couple of suitcases if we contemplate a holiday this summer. We have PCP expiring in the autumn and a re keen to replace with a new car so whilst we have a little time am keen not to leave it until the last minute.

The farmer nearest to me has one of the last old style Defenders made, go to the Lakes & Dales and you'll see lots, so to say that working farmers gave up on them is pure rhetoric.

A short trip into the Ribble valley at the weekend and I saw five new style Defenders (3 110s and 2 90s) so I hope that they are selling well and continue to do so....

I don't know if cars are different, but historically a trader offering an article for sale at a marked price is making an 'offer to treat'. I don't think he is obliged to sell at that price as he can always withdraw it from sale - which is effectively what has happened here.

The OP may think he has been gazumped, but it sounds as if he will receive betterment if he pays the extra £200.

Have quite an issue with my Ford Focus 1.0 ecoboost Turbo.

The mileage is currently at 42k miles and has been up to date with servicing.

Car is no longer in warranty which is very annoying, I took it to a a garage today (not Ford) abs they have said it would need a new turbo at the price of £1300 inc labour.

Does that sound about right?

They have said that it would be worth speaking to Ford as it’s in good condition and hasn’t done a great deal of mileage.

Has anyone come across any Turbo issues with these Ford’s and is it worth a fight with Ford to get it repaired for free outside warranty.

Hi,
What is the reg of the car? 17 plate?

I ask as the engine has under gone various modifications since it was introduced.

I know Ford are more willing to contribute since all the bad publicity about this engine. If you get a negative response, take your case higher up within Ford.
