Hello. Can anyone please help me decipher a symbol which appeared on my dashboard this morning? As my car is so old, I cant find it online. (The manual disappeared and I cant find it in my Haynes manual).
Its an orange light. The symbol is a circle with a partial circle to the right and left outside the circle. Inside the circle there is a mini car which is at an angle. Under the car are two tracks crisscrossing each other like an x.... Read more
I never thought I would write this, but yesterday I took my sister-in-law to get a PCR test just off Portobello road, but with the wrong information had to find an alternative.

Not on the M25 this morning. Someone had the stupid idea of running loads of VWs around the M25 for charity. The resulting congestion added twenty minutes to a journey. I had absolutely no sympathy for the ones I saw broken down on the hard shoulder.
Hi,
I am looking to buy a 2nd hand car for about 2k just for me and I will not be carrying much kit. I was made redundant and normally had a company car so have not brought a used car for a few years. I have a family but we have a family car (Citoren C4) so this will mainly be for my new work driving collecting and delivering COVID tests. Any ideas of a good reliable car would be appreciated.... Ok that's very helpful, looks like its likely to be a Honda, Toyota, Ford or Vauxhall!
Does anyone know how many hours a garage would quote to change the timing chain? Read more
I want to change it because it is a known fault on this fiat engine
Well well, I live and learn....
Saw a report saying that the energy firms want to be able to switch off high drain electrical devises (electric car chargers) due to the distribution system not being designed for the significant additional demands of home charging.
so on the one hand electric car buying is encouraged but the distribution system won’t cope with demand, crazy situation... Read more
s an example, things have gone very quiet in recent years on the hydrogen-fusion front. In theory having a small tame sun could generate a lot of power, but keeping it contained seems to be tricky.
ITER is being built as we speak in France and some serious money being put into it....
When looking at the reviews the only category on any particular review that works for me is the summary, the rest of them like specs and prices etc will not respond. I've done clearing cookies etc - no difference - anybody else have this problem?

At least the login link now works as a popup again on Firefox. The review headings still don't. I keep forgetting to email IT guy Kalpesh (forgive me if his name is not spelled correctedly) to ask about this - has anyone else done so?
The links do work on MS Edge, but I haven't found it does ad and tracking cookie blockers, which I need in order for websites (this one inclued) to not slow down my browsing experience to a crawl, especially on my tablet.
My 1.9TDI Skoda Fabia is getting long in the tooth and I’m getting ache in the back. I want something for under £10k with an upright driving position, good MPG and, ideally less body roll on the B roads. It’s the one complaint I’d have about the Fabia.
The Vitara seems like great value and I was pretty sold on it after watching the Carwow review on YouTube. Then I realised that he’s driving the S version with stiffer suspension which is probably out of my budget. I’m also interested in the Ignis but with no steering reach adjust I doubt I’d be as comfortable as in the Vitara. The Kadjar and Peugeot 2008 might be other options. Read more
Best thing to do would be to get out there and drive them. I’d probably favour the Pug 2008 here as it drives well, it’s comfortable, practical and economical. The 1.2 3cyl petrol is a great wee engine, especially the 130PS turbo.
Hi
A young woman ran into the back of my wife's car at the traffic lights today. The other car was only going about 10mph, my wife was stationary and the damage to my wife's cars back bumper looks minor/cosmetic. The woman in question wants to avoid going through her insurance (she looked about 20 on a 20 plate car) so I'm guessing she want's to avoid the excess and having her insurance increase in cost. She admitted responsibility.... Read more
Get the quote, tell the bodyshop the other party is paying and get the woman in question to give her details to the bodyshop.
I need to find temporary insurance for a loan car for a 24 yer old. It's only for 2 weeks. It's more than my annual premium to add him to my car as a named driver ;-( Read more
I know it’s an old thread, but I’ll chip in with my recent findings.
I looked around at getting short term insurance for my provisional licence holding daughter whilst her driving lessons aren’t running, the theory being she could drive whilst making necessary journeys. Adding her to the existing policy multiplied the monthly premium by a factor of 10, but taking out a separate policy meant 2 months full comprehensive cover, £250 excess, was £95. That’s on a 19 registered Captur.
Anyone know a car hire company that would rent to a 24 year old coming back home for a break? Seems to be a 25 year old+ policy only. Key worker discount would be useful. ;-( Read more
I've had some good deals booking hire cars in with flights, especially when flying in to International. As above, use the more mature driver to reduce the liability.
Phew! At least those of us who thought it might be something to do with the ABS system were near the mark.
I hope the job wasn't too expensive - it sounds as if it should not have been....
