I have a 2011 grand scenic and the passenger brake light is not working. Checked the fuse in the glove box and it's working fine. The bulb is brand new but the light will not come on, any ideas on how to fix this? Maybe no power going to the brake light, where do I start Read more
I'm looking to buy a car as I'm going to change jobs as I've had enough of where I work. I've been driving new company cars for the last three years. But this is obviously going to have to go back. I couldn't care less about cars, but would obviously not want to buy a crap one.
Previously before the company cars, I've never really spent more than 5k on a car. I've also kept them for ages. These were nearly always Japanese cars, although I had a couple of MK1 Focus' which were very good cars. I'm looking for something around that size. I had toyed with the idea of getting an FN2 Civic Type R, but the road tax puts me off, I know they're a cracking engine as I've had an EP3 that had done a lot of miles. I used to do just about all the maintenance on the cars I had.... Read more
“ I think you mean mkII rather than mkIII? Just in case the OP gets confused”
I was referring to the Mk III but I often forget that cars are usually cheaper up here. Here’s one from a Ford dealer on budget. The Mk II is a good car but they’re more prone to rot than the later model.

Hi everyone,
Brought a 2015 i20 Premium SE in 2017 from Saltmarine in NI, adored the car, ended up going to live in Dubai for nearly 2 years for a teaching job and sold the car while I was away as needed to pay for a car there. ... Read more
Just thought I should point out that as Hyundai and Kia are essentially the same company, look at Kia Rio’s too, which will give you a bit more choice.
Same car underneath with the same running gear, just different styling.
Hi all, thanks in advance for any input.
I'm being told by a neighbour I'm a d*ckhead for being about to pay £11000 for an Astra. I'm pretty sure I'm getting a good deal but the guy works at a garage so I'm doubting things a bit. Here's more info on the car:... Read more
Good honest car with good ride and handling. Though standard 1.4 is very gutless. You could get a 1.4t for similar money. Have a look on Autotrader 68 plate 1.4t for £10.994. Or even a 1.6t with 200 bhp.I have the Astra K with 1.6 turbo just mentioned.I think it's pretty good. The engine has plenty of to end power and Lee end torque. I think the Astra K package is good. Used they are better value than ford focus or other main rivals, with very little compromises needed. On VX forums reputation is better than 1.4 turbo but I don't know how exegerated these faults are.
Thanks very much S40 Man. Yes, I've seen that the problems tend to occur more with the 1.4s than the 1.6s. One of the meain reasons I was leaning towards the 1.4 is to keep my insurance down. I've only been driving a year and so insurance is still crazy high. I'm doing what I can to keep it down and compared with the 1.6, the 1.4 will save me hundreds of £ over the course of a few years. . ...
Hi all hope someone can help me. An elderly member of my family has asked my help regarding the procurement of another car as her old banger has sadly passed the point of no return today (head gasket issues).).
She would be eligible for the TFL scrappage scheme and so could claim £2000 towards another car which is deemed" eco compliant". My question really relates to the purchasing of this newer eco car. In a nutshell, can this eco replacement be second hand, and can it be bought privately (ebay or gumtree) ????... Read more
No, you are right - had a proper read through...even if you buy a car it does not need to meet the new standard either...all a bit odd...think Gordon may be right about some upcoming elections!
The condition is that a car belonging to the claimant, who must reside in a London Borough (or the City), which he has owned for a defined period and is not ULEZ compliant must be scrapped. However you look at it that is one less non ULEZ car. Bearing in mind petrol cars post c2005 are ULEZ compliant £2000 gives some scope. I suspect that buying a secondhand non ULEZ compliant banger and, after keeping it for a time applying again would not succeed. ...
Hello all, looking for some help please
I recently brought a used 2014 Mk 7, VW Golf SE and it's been a great car until some slightly colder weather and mornings arrived I am having problems with the windscreen badly fogging up.... Read more
I have the same problem on my Pug 308. Cured to some extent by keeping a sock filled with cat litter on the dash. It does mean, though, that the stuff blows everywhere!!!
Like me, you could invest in a small microwaveable dehumidifier. Better than cat litter - no dust, reusable, and probably more effective.
I bought a 14 plate Vauxhall Insignia 1.8 petrol car in September of last year. Ever since then there has been a coolant issue/loss. I have recently had the thermostat and main pipe replaced so doubt it it that. I've checked the engine bay and can't see and coolant build up anywhere, can anyone suggest anywhere else to look? I have looked under the car and there is wetness underneath the fan but don't think that's it. Everything I pull away from standing still there is a wooshing noise which is presumably coolant getting pulled through? Can anyone suggest anything to look at? Cheers Read more
l'm on my 3rd header tank, they split. My insignia is only 2015 plate.
By the way. Oil drips from the oil filter housing onto the manifold, giving off fumes, another problem....
My nephew told me that he was thinking of buying a car from Cazoo (as seen on TV) and asked me what I thought. I 'researched' them and the TrustPilot reviews were mainly good but the bad reviews were a nightmare.. I couldn't help but notice that for most of the reviewers it was their only review ?
I myself cannot imagine buying and paying for a second hand car 'unseen' ? I advised hin to go to a traditional dealer... Read more
Good to see Trustpilot came to the rescue. They didn’t do to well on Rip off Britain the other morning and I didn’t realise that the companies pay a subscription to be on the site . So is there anything independent ?
Not sure TrustPilot have done anything?

Perhaps take a look at Peugeot models with the Puretech engine . Don’t think they are any better www.peugeotforums.com/threads/timing-belt-crumbles.../
That thread is over five years old and relates to a small batch of duff belts. I think the post 2016 1.2 Puretechs, of which there must by now be a huge number, are proving to be reasonably reliable. Probably Ford's 1.0 ecotec is now OK too. I would be interested to know what engine modifications have been made. I don't think it was just its flawed coolant pipe problem. I had the impression there was a more deep seated head or block design problem as well which Ford would have been reluctant to disclose.
Previously there use to be a couple of traders around the forum that use to buy cars from auction for private individuals, cutting down on private fees.

Been told Manheim are not expecting physical auctions until next year.
Online dealer only auctions fine for fleet sales, but more problematic for 10 year plus part ex’s due to issues with description and condition reports.
I have a 4 pin relay and wire. Is this all I would need. Hopefully going to look at doing it soon as mot retest expires sharpish. Thanks
