Why should the UK taxpayer subsidise Ford factories in Germany, Spain & Rumania?
Yes Ford make engines & gearboxes in the UK but shipped UK Transit jobs to Turkey.
Currently Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Vx & JLR build some of their cars in the UK - I would prefer to support UK manufacturing jobs. Read more
Your site is swamped with advertising and it is becoming difficult for a reader to see the wood for the trees.
Carry on like this and I shall not bother with Honest John which would be a shame for it serves a very useful purpose. Read more
It is sometimes impossible to read certain things on the site when advertisements pop up and there doesn't seem to be any way in which to get rid of them. However, the site must be funded somehow so I have no intention of abandoning it. I find it invaluable.

VAT reduces from 19% to 16%
9000 euros (6 govt and 3 manufacturers) for cars over 40k euros
6000 euros (similar ratio) for cars under 40k euros
Only electric cars and hybrids included & must emit less than 95grams of CO2
That probably means only plug in hybrids included
Nothing for normal petrol / diesel cars beyond VAT reduction Read more
Scrappage schemes also rob us of many classics and future classics. There are some videos on YouTube of people touring the airfields where cars were stored after the last scheme. What we've lost would make any car enthusiast weep.

Interestingly in 2009 it had done 272,393 miles. 10 MOT later it's still one exactly the same mileage. Wonder how many miles have really been covered? Must be approaching half a million. Shame the mileometer wasn't fixed. Read more
I mentioned a while back that a local taxi driverhad a current MGZS suv lookalike with (at that time 78000 miles in 2 years..)
servicing, tyres and 4 wheel bearings....
Engine fault light came on.
A mobile mechanic came and fitted a new part costing £200+ plus labour which said fixed problem.... Read more

Hi all
I'm buying my first car! Unfortunately, I don't have anybody knowledgable that can come and look at them with me.... Read more
PD, thanks so much for that tip. It'll go on the list of things to check. A replaced rack wouldn't be worth it for me, so I'd just walk away. Do you know what the costs associated with compressors and condensers are? I see parts costs for compressors at ~£100 odd and condensers at ~£70 odd.
I'll keep the PSA engines in mind. Glad to hear there aren't any recurring/major problems.
Just heard that 1 in 6 jobs in the car industry are at risk.
Made me think, if I’m in the market for a new car, which make and/or model should I invest my money in to help the industry and help protect British jobs? Read more
Indeed - we've been encouraged for nigh on 30 years to be an always-in-debt, short-termist culture more interested in what other people (most of whom we don't know) think rather than practicality/usefullness, value-for-money (over the long term) being debt-free and being happy with oneself.
Could be that many are cynical when it comes to Government extensions and Insurance Companies declaring 'cover void' without MOt's? Read more
Battery wasnt holding charge in my 2011 berlingo van B9. Took it to local fitter and the fitter disconnected the old one from terminals but didnt seem sure about how to get it out. His mate told helped hom remove the casing and bracket. He then went to get a new battery and fitted it. Heres where the problems start. Turned the ignition all instruments lights on dash and electrics all working but van doesnt turn over; not even a click. They loccked an unlocked central locking but still nothing. They checked battery was fitted correctly and all fuses were ok. Basically left me with a van that wont turn over and said they thinks the immobiliser is stopping it from starting. Electrician friend said it would stil turn over if that was the case but just wouldnt start. Eventuall got it recovered and towed to a local garage. They did a diagnostic check and said a list of faults are showing yet before I took it for a battery change there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I dont want a garage to rip.me off by saying this that and the other is wrong when its obviously something to do with the battery being disconnected for a while. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Does it have a smart key which can be re-synced as per the handbook?
How can this country ever get its manufacturing industry back when the government is going to subsidise foreign car makers to the tune of £6000 British tax payers money. the likes of, VW, BMW, CITROEN, PEUGEOT, RENAULT, SKODA, KIA, HYUNDIA must be laughing all the way to the bank with their sales of EV vehicles. In this country me only produce ICE vehicles( with the exception of a couple ) so unless EV manufacturers start to invest in the UK we are dead in the water. How stupid are our great British politicians and when Vauxhall and Nissan and Toyota shut their factories here all we will get is 'we need money to help support the 1,000's that have lost their jobs'. Politicians, not an ounce of common sense or business sense between them. Their policy has been sell everything off to foreign countries then sit back as slowly they steal our ideas and inventions then close the factories down.
But don't forget to build loads of McDonald's, Costas, Subways, etc etc so that our young people can have a bright future and also throw in zero hours contracts . Well done politicians.
The above article stated that Ford will have to pay 10% tax when we leave the UK , no problem as we will be giving them £6000 towards the price of their cars.
