As usual there are no proposals to restrict the real culprit which is air travel.
Aviation fuel continues to be untaxed because there is no prospect of international agreement to create a tax regime for it, and I don't see a future for electric airliners.. Read more
What could possibly go wrong with this system I wonder ?
I'll stick with my key for now thanks. Read more
I would disagree with that view, how many young driver have bumps, endorsements in the first year of driving?, in my opinion, young drivers should be limited to the engine size they purchase, from 950cc up to 1000cc for the first 2 years to gain experience, if caught speeding more than once, their licence should be revoked for 6 months, my comment might not please many of the young ones, but I am a few that have seen some flying about as they are on Speed Tracks Read more
2000 seems quite a small sample size?

Hi. I am new to the forum and would appreciate your advice please. My Captiva recently broke down. The DPF warning light came on and the car went into limp mode. I tried to do a regen by switching to manual and driving above 4000 revs. After a few minutes the engine started self-revving and making a horrible clacking sound. I pulled over and stopped, called AA. He said the oil level was way up and showed me oil in the inlet manifold hose, probably also in intercooler and everywhere else it shouldn't be. Advised not to try restarting due to risk of overrun.Garage drained and changed the oil, tried to start it. Engine cranks over, won't start and stalls with what they describe as "hydraulic locking". Facing a repair bill of potentially thousands and a lot of money initially to get to the bottom of the problem in the first place. Engine codes read out were P244B, P2463 (twice), P2084 and P0089. Any ideas on what the problem could be and what I should do next ? Read more
Ah, that is what I was afraid of. I was hoping it might be less complicated to diagnose or even if it is feasible to tackle it myself. But without specialist equipment that is probably also not possible. Thank you very much for responding and giving your insights.
I have mentioned it here before. My lease Hyundai Tucson went back to the lease co in February and I didn't replace it.
In a way that was good fortune with 5 months rental premiums saved and no insurance costs! (Though Mrs Z got me to pay for her MOT, service, tax and insurance on her Nissan Note instead!)... Read more
Given the Tiguan and Kadjar are about the same size, i'm surprised at the mention of the Hyundai Kona, which is a much smaller car (more than a foot shorter)
Surely if a car the size of the Kona would suffice, you should be looking at its direct rivals from VW (T-Cross) and Renault (Captur)?
So much for the efficiency of our smart motorway network camera coverage and rapid response.

Indeed. I'd love to know what, if anything, goes on in the mind of someone like that.
No rational person would buy anything advertised in that way: most rational people wouldn't open the link in the first place. So what on earth is the point?...
I am looking to replace my Saab convertible and am drawn to either a BMW 3 series coupe or an Audi A5.
I would like to get an automatic. I know there are no real issues with BMW autos but I am unsure about the Audi. It seems some have the Multitronic gearbox and some the S-tronic.... Read more
Thought I would drop in a 6-week update on the Audi.

Hi all,
What is the correct temperature range for the fridge section on a fridge/freezer?... Read more
I've never come across this issue before but my refrigerator didn't work clearly due to refrigerant leak. It is caused by holes or cracks in the coils that circulate the refrigerant. That's it's important to be careful as it may be harmful to one's health. To identify this problem I bought detector, here is a great review

Why should the UK taxpayer subsidise Ford factories in Germany, Spain & Rumania?
Yes Ford make engines & gearboxes in the UK but shipped UK Transit jobs to Turkey.
Currently Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Vx & JLR build some of their cars in the UK - I would prefer to support UK manufacturing jobs. Read more
How can this country ever get its manufacturing industry back when the government is going to subsidise foreign car makers to the tune of £6000 British tax payers money. the likes of, VW, BMW, CITROEN, PEUGEOT, RENAULT, SKODA, KIA, HYUNDIA must be laughing all the way to the bank with their sales of EV vehicles. In this country me only produce ICE vehicles( with the exception of a couple ) so unless EV manufacturers start to invest in the UK we are dead in the water. How stupid are our great British politicians and when Vauxhall and Nissan and Toyota shut their factories here all we will get is 'we need money to help support the 1,000's that have lost their jobs'. Politicians, not an ounce of common sense or business sense between them. Their policy has been sell everything off to foreign countries then sit back as slowly they steal our ideas and inventions then close the factories down.
But don't forget to build loads of McDonald's, Costas, Subways, etc etc so that our young people can have a bright future and also throw in zero hours contracts . Well done politicians.
The above article stated that Ford will have to pay 10% tax when we leave the UK , no problem as we will be giving them £6000 towards the price of their cars.

Quite right...no excuses, the sooner fossil fuel cars are removed the better. Of course this does not address the issue of polluting 'planes and sea-vessels but it is an incremental change in the right direction.
I look forward to the day when all cars are elec, lightweight, small and have various battery ranges depending on how they are used. I only need a battery to cover max 30 miles a day, another may need 300 miles.......so the battery should be an option (just like current engine size).
