Help if anyone still reads this!!!

I have a 02 plate 2.2i astra convertible. The car was working properly up until we had the recent snow. I tried to start the car, the car turned over and started but then cut out. I tried again and again but still the same thing was happeneing. The car was low on fuel though. I pushed the car off the slight incline it was on the the car started. There was a slight knocking when the car was turning over. When the car started, it was knocking slightly but was running on 3 cylinders and really flat. The car starts first time but the revs go up and down and it struggles to tick over. In a high gear at low revs, the car shunts back and forth. It sound better when the throttle is pushed, but it sounds flat and there is no guts in it. I can smell the cat strongly where there is unburnt fuel passing through the exhaust.

I have had a look at the plugs. They are a little sooty, but not too bad. I've taken the EGR valve off and had a look. Again, it was a little sooty but not too bad. A mate has plugged in a BDO diagnostic in and there are no error codes. Can anyone suggest anywhere else to look? I hope it's not too expensive!!

If im restoring a car lets say a ford sierra cosworth and decide to fit a recon engine and box & overhaul rear diff and brakes and steering etc etc, & bring this back to showroom condition is it legal & would you do it to wind the clock back to zero mileage?

Or just leave it with it's original mileage? which is probably around the clock which would have been a 5 digit clock back then.

Hello. The engine misses around 1400 - 2250 rpm on a light throttle. (judders may be a more accurate desc.!) Flat out it is fine. No faults found tho. Would be grateful for some help.
Thanks in advance.

I seem to remember Ford used to let you book a service online, and they gave you a quote for the work requested based on your car (i.e a yearly service or cambelt change)

I can't seem to find this on their website anymore - does anyone know if its still available or where it is? Read more

Our local Ford group has a centralized booking service for all its' dealerships. Also check Ford "rapidfit" prices against their ordinary workshops. They don't charge the same and it's not always the rapidfit that's cheaper.

If you remove the glove box the blower fan is easily accessed. When mine failed it turned out to be a slightly loose spade type terminal on the main supply (easily fixed by slightly crimping the terminal so that it made a better connection). I think there is also a resistor pack fitted to the fan unit to provide the variable speed function - this could be faulty.

Hi There, hoping for a little assistance if possible! I have changed the battery on my rover 420 diesel and in the cold leave the ignition in position three for about a minute to try and get some heat into the glowplugs, however, it is taking longer and longer to start, so much so that I killed the battery this morning...!

I am assuming that new glowplugs would be the best bet, however, have read about the relay being an issue - is it best just to change the glowplugs and see if that helps or do the older Rovers need anything else to get them started?

Many Thanks in advance,

That is the best way but testing them in situ is easier.

My auxiliary drive belt shredded itself (tensioner problem I think) while I was de-icing the car outside the house. Now the fan blower does not work and I'm sure it was running at the end of the last journey. I know there could be many reasons (the fuses all appear OK both under the dash and under the bonnet) but is there a common problem with this on the Berlingo? Car is 1.9 diesel. Thanks Read more
