Hi All. With this cold weather the focus is having some issues and wondered if anyone had some suggestions. Basicly after a cold night (under -5) the door catch on the drivers side is refusing to catch. I can unlock and open the car fine but until the engine has warmed up the door won't catch when shut. Its a pain in the backside holding it shut for the 1st 5 mins of my journey until it decides to hold itself. Sprayed a load of WD40 on the catch the over day but same thing happened again this moring. Don't really want to take the whole thing to peices unless I really have to. Any suggestions as to the next thing to try?

All the other doors are fine by the way. Read more

Try Matt Black based in Accrington Lancashire.

If you go on the ClioSport Forum his full details will be there.

As has been pointed out is there any reason you cannot make a few enquiries yourself or is that too easy!!!!!

I have had problems with my Rover for the past couple of weeks with an overheating engine...

I have had the thermostat replaced, which seems to have worked by bringing the temperature gauge down....BUT....

The water in my coolant tank is boiling over if the engine is left running for a little while 5-10 mins.....I have looked at the engine and when it gets too hot the fan motor kicks in but the fan does not spin/turn....

I have got another fan unit from the local scrap yard (I tested this whilst I was there and it works), but when In install this onto my car the same thing happens, the motor kicks in but the fan does not turn...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Read more

I can't understand how the fan motor could be running but the blades not turning. If the blades were obstructed in any way the motor wouldn't run at all.

Rover's used to have a one way valve in the cooling system, just where the hose attaches to the inlet manifold, which sometimes sticks causing the engine to overheat but I'm with John S. I fear the bubbling you can see in the expansion tank is being caused by a blown head gasket.

If it's any help I had a MkI Astra that did this but loosening the cap on the expansion tank made the car driveable temporarily.

Hi,

I bought an 09 plate KA from a Ford main dealer on 24th December, the salesman, the invoice and the service stamp all say 4014 miles. A few days later after find out how to change the electroinic dashboard I noticed that the car had indeed done 8700 miles.

Where do I stand?

I have emailed the general manager of the dealership but im told elsewhere that I have 14 days in which I can return the car due to misrepresentation
Help, as the 14 days run out tomorrow

Cheers

im
not even convinced they carried out the first one.

Check the oil. Assuming it's petrol, at 8000 miles the oil would be quite black. If it's just been changed it should be clear.

Just because the mileage is wrong in the service book doesn't say for certain that the oil and filter hasn't been changed, which is about all they ever do on a first service usually, that and visual inspections.

As per the subject line, the wife's car has overheated on the way to work this morning (ebgine warning light came on as well). She managed to nurse it in, by stopping every time it started get get too hot. I checked the radiator and filled it up earlier in the week with anti-freeze and she checked the expansion tank this morning, so it isn't lack of coolant. I'd appreciate it if anyone can suggest the most likely causes and a check list on how to narrow it down. Hopefully it would be something simple like the thermostat, but life is never that easy. Did this happen in traffic or on the open road? Was the heater still working while it was over hot? The thermostat is the most likely culprit if it overheated when driving at a reasonable speed, or if in traffic the radiator fan. How strong is the antifreeze mixture?

Without replies consisting of RTFM, could anybody in the know advise what anti freeze I need for my 98 Mazda 626 petrol please. With all the talk of double figures minus temps, I intend to get some topup to increase the strength and maybe a tester. Read more

I don't think there is much to choose between antifreezes, as long as the main component is (ethylene) glycol. I top up with neat AF to compensate for the times I have topped up with plain water in the summer! A simple test for effectiveness (as suggested by someone in the discussion thread) is simply to collect a small amount of coolant and put the container in a freezer, which will be at around -18degC. If it stays liquid, you've probably got enough AF in it...

NB - beware 'ready-mixed' antifreeze. This is just an excuse to sell you the stuff watered down!

Went to collect the wife from work yesterday and picked up a hitch hiker, first time ive done this in near 30 years,i explained to my passenger that theres too many care in the communities out there who tell you their tin of corned beef is really a bomb so i stopped doing it,it was freezing cold out and i knew that buses were only every hour if they run and the way he was hitching i realised he didnt do it for a living
What do the team think?
Has anybody else offered lifts in this weather to people they dont know?
Or co workers that turned out the passengers from hell?

Hello!

My girlfriends 12v ignition switched wire has no power whatsoever (red wire) - How can this be fixed? I have BASIC knowledge in auto electrics.

The reason I ask is because I'm installing a new radio and I would need to wire the 12v ignition switched to the yellow 12v constant supply for power..

Thank you! ;)

Loss of switched aux power on this model is usually a fault of the ignition switch.I think it also powers the cigar lighter(if fitted).Best option is to take an alternative ignition supply from a seperate source/fuse box.hth

Well not quiet, I have been starting my car every few days and its turning over in less than a second. Pretty amazing considering the battery and coil pack are from 1999.

My question is if I started tomorrow after a -12c freeze am I likely to cause damage if any of the coolant has frozen? I am not convinced I have enough anti freeze in to cope with -12c :(

Its a bit difficult with with only one hand though! I agree if I was doing this daily, but once every 9 days is not really going to do any harm.

The car is used for mainly short journeys anyway so the engine is probably already very miserable.

In this weather I am jealous of 4x4 owners who have that bit of extra grip and traction to possibly go where others can't.

Would be interested in any tales of how your vehicle has done in the snow, is this the first you have used the 4x4 properly? If you have a part-time set up like the CRV did you find it kicked in during your snow driving or was the normal set up enough? Anyone raised some money or goodwill through towing the neighbours out of ditches? Did you go out in your car purely to test its capabilities? Any 4 wheel drive power slides in deserted car parks?

And please, no anti 4x4 brigade discussion!!!

And don't be afraid to let us know of any embarrassing mishaps as well! Did you have to get towed out a ditch by a Toyota Aygo?? Read more

Deliberately provoked a bit of tail wagging in an empty bit of my leisure club car park tonight. The Squashy only puts power to the back if the front has traction problems. It hangs out nicely and you can catch it easily with a bit of op-lock but I did hear what sounded like the abs chattering at the same time even though I wasn't touching the brakes. I suppose that must have been the stability doofer doing its thing ?
