Sorry to ask an obvious question but how can I recharge the battery in my '07 Corsa CDTi without affecting the stereo security code as soon as the battery is disconnected? Read more

without affecting the stereo security code as soon as the battery is disconnected?

Your stereo doesn't require a code after a power interruption. It's married up to the car and would need divorcing (via Tech2 or similar) before working in another Vauxhall, and then would need marrying up to the other car.

The only things you would have to do is reprogram the one touch windows (open fully, keep button pressed down for 5 secs, then close and keep button pressed down again for 5 secs - repeat for other windows). You would also have to re-sync the central locking. All this is documented in the car's handbook - ie, RTFM ;o)

I need the these items within the next 10 days ;

Pair of van / truck batteries , proper identifier numbers are : 643 and a 644 .

Portable jump starter of at least 1000 amp ( AA used it to jump start my 6.9 diesel V8, to my amazement ) . My piddly standard 400 amp machine didn't even turn it. AA man reckons they're about £100 which I'm glad to pay.

Any constructive leads will be welcomed, and yes I'm aware of E Bay.

Am in London and would rather collect though will have delivered if no choice . Read more

I won't go into the exact details but I am a good customer, I don't owe them a penny. I asked for a new card today as the security number has faded. I also phoned up a different department about my business card which is not working they have ordered me a new card.

Just been to Morrisons and could not pay, my personal card has expired despite it expiring in June 2010.

They told me I could carry on using it in the bank.

I am trying to phone them now (customer services) but waiting for ever.

I have had enough of this, I have had so many communication problems with this bank enough is enough. I have been a customer since 1987, will changing now effect my abiliy to get credit?

Just had enough with the hopeless and rude staff at their branches. Read more

I have Oil Fired - it's good, price can vary, but if you puy at the right time you can be far cheaper than gas - Last years tank full in March lasted until today and cost me just under £400.00 - I topped up with a 1000 litres today and cost 493.00 - so a working annual total was around £500.00 - 4 bedrooms and I hate being cold.

15 months old, low mileage, main dealer, we have looked at identical cars, this one is a good price though the other end of the country.

Would you buy a second hand car without seeing it?

Any thoughts?

Thanks. Read more

Yes, I have done so several times through ebay, and have had no problem at all with any of the cars.

I've never paid more than £500 though, so if I was shelling out several thousand I'd insist on seeing, inspecting, and driving the car before I handed over the full amount.

Hello All

Currently have (18" run flats from new):

225/40 on fronts
225/35 on rears

Want to replace with (non-run flat) winter tyres, and was wondering whether anyone knew if putting 225/40 on the rear was a no-no?

Would also be useful to know why the profile on the rears is lower than the front but the width is the same. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance. Read more

I think you'll find you have 255s on the rear not 225s.

Thanks, Bagpuss.

They could well be 255 on rears (wife's car, she told me the sizes over the phone but I could have misheard).

==> if they are 255/35 on rear then could I fit 225/40 on them instead (subject to insurance co & BMW assist approval), because I don't think there are many winter tyres in 255/35 on the market?

I was in Carrefore Evian at New Year looking for a set of snow chains as we were staying up in the mountains; no chains in my size but I did buy a set of Fix and Go Tex Snow Slippers (40 Euros)
I have found them great in our current weather in south London but with our road almost impassable and the main roads clear they are showing signs of damage.
Short of taking them off and on at the end of our road is there any way to extend their use or is there anything similar to use in the next lot of snow and ice we are bound to get ?

AutoSocks. ?40 is cheap though, unless you can set some on eBay.

Michelin do a similar thing called Easy Grip.

Evening,

Spent ages trying to get into the car because of doors refusing to open.

Ended up geeting in the one door that would finally open (NSR), and clambering over the drivers seat, had to remove head restraint to do so.

What a spectacle, hope none of the neighbours were watching!

I then heard a recommendation on Radio 2 - WD40 on the door seals would stop them freezing shut

Applied generous quantities at lunchtime, and found them frozen shut again when I left work, so that was a waste of time! Car stank on the way home though

None of my neighbours appear to have any problems getting in theirs - any ideas/suggestions what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

I chatted to a couple of colleagues at work today and the general feeling was that they are not great in the snow at all.

I was told that the gear box will not allow the driver to pull away in second gear so when trying to pull away on ice or snow the car just wants to spin the back of the car around.

This seems to apply with the diesel version.

My other colleague (with the petrol version) said that its not so bad with the petrol version but driving over any pot holes at the moment wants to swing the back end of the car out on these slippery surfaces.

Even though these smart cars are rear wheel drive, the fact that the driver is sitting almost over the back wheels should provide better traction or so I thought.

Does anyone else drive a smart car in these conditions and what are they like ? Read more

my smart cdi has been fine in this weather, pre xmas i used it to go down and back up a hill in Bristol that I was told was inpassable. No problem for me.

A hint, if the rear wheels spin, use the handbrake to slow them down - it fools the ESP.

Amber & red warning lights speedo illuminate erratically. Alarm sounds erratically. Passenger airbag warning light illuminates erratically.GPS operates erratically. Electronic key fails erratically. Jaguar dealership, in all instances as reported above, refuse to honour the Jaguar warranty which has 6 months to run on this 2 1/2 year old heap of rubbish. Due to the alarm sounding at least once in every hour, car taken to Jaguar dealer who could not repair the car, did not have a loan/hire car, and suggested that I remove the fuse for the horn. I am now driving an unroadworthy 2 1/2 year old prestige car and if the police should check the car I would have a criminal record and my DNA would be held on the national database like any other common criminal. I am an electrician(not auto electrician unfortunately) and after reading through all the posts i would like to suggest something. If your having numerous electrical faults in all aspects of the car then surely the cause points to either the battery going faulty or the alternator.
I would have thought that they would have replaced both of these to eliminate them.

We have a Vivaro van and had trouble with the engine running very rough and all sorts of lights coming on.When we took it to the garage it turned out to be a multiplug that had worked loose and the mechanic said that it was showing half a dozen faults from all over the van.Once the plug and socket where sorted the van ran fine again.Getting back to your Jag maybe a multiplug(that feeds lots of different electrical items)could be faulty hence why your getting numerous faults from all over the place.

I would still place money on the battery, alternator being faulty though.
