Almost every car manufacturer has produced a lemon at some stage, with the possible exception of BMW and Porsche.
Here's my A-Z
AMC Pacer & Gremlin
Austin Allegro especially with the idiotic quartic steering wheel
Cadillac Seville Diesel, Cimmaron
Chrysler/Talbot Horizon, Solara
Dacia Denem
Ford Edsel, Pinto, Taunus
FSO Polonez
Pontiac Aztec
Rolls Royce Camargue (even Pininfarina can have an off day)
Volkswagen K70
I'm sure there are many more I can think of, but my post would probably time out

Hi,
a few problems with the focus, not sure whether related. Have had to top up coolant twice within last month, with no visible signs of loss - then car started to 'miss' when accelerating, first under low revs but now throughout rev range.
Wondered whether missing was due to spark plugs, as had not been changed for a while, but when I removed the leads I noticed the first plug (to far left) was swimming in oil.
Could this cause the misfire? Wondered whether rocker cover gasket leak could be the cause (but have changed this 3 times within last 2 years...!)
Bit concerned whether coolant loss and misfire hint at head gasket failure, but there have been no signs of overheating to date.
Any advice welcomed.
Cheers. Read more

We run a kangoo which we have owned from new. It has travelled 49000 miles on mainly short trips. I remember a previous car had a sudden and total battery failure at a filling station at about the same age and milage. Is there any easy test I can do to check the state of the battery? I know that modern types often give no notice of failure. Should I change it at a particular age or milage or will it last for many more years? Read more
Cheers. I'll try a local independent auto electrical place on the way home tomorrow.

This is my first car, 'Rattle' it had an electrical fault and bits were missing so I got out my old GCSE electronics kit and did a bodge repair. Repair lasted longer than the engine.

Another useful cable was Hillman Imp choke cable.
I sat in a CL500 today. It was awesome.
My wifes son has gone and got himself a CL500. 1 yr old, 9k on the clock, jet black with cream leather, double glazed windows (for heaven sake).
There are buttons for everything. If it moves? press a button, if it don't move? press a button til it does.
For all its length, there ain't a huge amount of leg room in the back. snip - inappropriate comment
The best mpg he has had is 22 (at 70 on the motorway)
Still, nice car though. Read more
Some drives might be no go areas - how about Moss Side :-)
Or maybe that'd be one of the safest places to take it.
If you park a car like that on Moss Side people might think that you're not someone to mess with!
Hi, I have a 2003 mk4 golf yesterday I found that the speedo wasnt working and the fuel gauge will drop as I accelerate, however the rev counter and the temperature gauge seem to be working fine. I have tried the fuses and now i'm out of ideas! anybody had a similar experience? thanks Read more
Brilliant, this makes sense as i have recently replaced the gearbox and it would have been disturbed, I'll check it out. Thanks!

Hi! Just wanted some advice. Got my 2006 x trail in March and in August noticed that the ESP off indicator kept coming on - so effectively it was switching itself off. Took it back to dealer who fixed this and everything has been fine. However, it has started doing the same thing again. What do you think is causing the problem - warranty is up in mid March and obviously I don't want this to continue past that as It will cost me. Do you think this is a major fault or are they simply just patching up the problem rather than really fixing it? Many thanks

Wayne Rooney's dad had his £40,000 sports car stolen... after leaving the keys in the ignition - stopped at a petrol station in Liverpool yesterday morning to fill up the black Mercedes. But as he paid for the fuel, a man got into his car and drove off.
Furious Mr Rooney called the police straightaway and they are now scouring CCTV footage to try to identify the thief and track him down. A police source said: "Unsurprisingly Mr Rooney wasn't too delighted that his flash car had been taken. But to leave the keys in the ignition probably wasn't the wisest thing to do."
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm we are investigating the theft of a black Mercedes sports car.
"The incident occurred at a petrol station in Queens Drive, Liverpool, at about 7.15am.
"The male driver of the vehicle was not in his car at the time. He was not subjected to any threats or violence or receive any injury.
"We are pursuing all lines of inquiry, including CCTV."
Perhaps this will assist trying to get the message into a few thick skulls ?
I love the police statement re Mr Rooney was not best pleased.
Another high priority investigation?

...still makes me blood run cold....wasn't you Rattie was it?
Might have been me, though !
I was called out to collect a stolen Victor in Collyhurst. The place was surrounded by 10 to 13 yrs old kids. They swarmed all over the trailer and kept interfering. I got the thing going and got in to drive it on when the engine stopped...they'd ripped all the HT leads off and thrown them up the road. I winched it on, secured it and drove away with about 6 of them hanging on the back of the trailer..... The curse of central locking...I was walking back to the car in the village when a young lady started walking by me and started chatting. She asked where I was going...I just said ' home '
She wouldn't go away, I walked up to the car and used the remote as I got to it. I forgot that it opened all the doors. She got in the passenger seat and started making rude suggestions and trying to touch me up, etc..............she was actually quite nice, but it wasn't a situation I wanted to be in......I eventually gave her a pound for a cuppa and chucked her out to try her luck elsewhere.
I keep going back, but she's never there...:-)

Hi, my corsa has the standard radio cassette and I want to put in a cd tuner . On the back of the standard radio are three plugs ,bottom one speakers middle power, top dont know, does it go to the dash top display? My question is can I fit a non vauxhall radio ignoring the top plug. Ive seen on ebay vauxhall cd tuners that would fit straight in but they are fetching nearly as much as a new non vauxhall one and are probably years old. I have heard someone mention running problems from doing this but I dont see how. Many thanks for your responses. Read more
I always stick my cheapo CD/USB WMA playing radio in my succession of bangernomics Vauxhalls, it rarely takes more than 15 minutes to fit, trickiest bit tends to be getting the new radio in without snagging the ISO connectors on the insides of the dash. If fitting a 3rd party radio you will need to remove the Vauxhall mouting cage ( which has the ISO connectors clipped in the back) and replace it with the one for your radio.

>>right..
but i have a saying
use it or lose it :-)
can you not recondition yourself? i did a punto by accident the other month when i popped a piston out as i was pad fitting :-(
