I am trying to locate or obtain the RPO number for my car.
All the locations where it should be on the car don't show any number.

Does any one know how else I can get hold of the RPO number Read more

My vectra engine management lights keeps coming on. Had diagnostic check which said lambda sensors. Put 2 new ones on thinking it was ok, then same problem light came back on. The weird thing is it only comes on when you do 80 mph. Can drive all day long under 80 mph and light wont come on but when you go over 80 the light comes back on and seems to be when you start to brake from 80 mph it comes on instantly. Any suggestions?

It is doing my head in. When it comes on i have to pay another 40 quid to get it took of again but diagnostic came up with no faults only for the 2 sensors that i changed before. Any suggestions? cheers

I've heard lots of nightmares about Fiat dealers, and we don't buy them any more but know of a good dealer. We bought our '86 Uno new from a place not worth mentioning but then found out about a brilliant Fiat dealership in Newport (S.Wales) that is still going.

Best Fiat experience (at Newport dealership):

The car had been cutting out without warning, but would always start if you left it for 45min or so. The dealership duly investigated, replacing possible causes in order of being cheapest to replace. After a few weeks, the guy helping us (one of the owners himself) pulled a distributor off a used Uno, saying that was the most expensive possibility having ruled out everything else. He told us to drive the car for a week, and the problem was solved. Upon return, we were told to try it for a bit longer. This went on for another 3 weeks to be sure before he then ordered in and fitted the new part for us. He was apologetic when he told us he'd have to charge us 30mins labour... after all the time he'd spent with the car. If I ever decide to treat myself to a white 500, I know where I'll go.

Most odd/memorable Ford experience (local Ford dealership):

A couple of years later, my father had a key cut for my sister's Escort. Key wouldn't work, so my father went back for a refund.

The girl behind desk wasn't sure she could give a refund; "that's no good to us now"!

... Wasn't very much use to us either, was it?!

Could be anything. If an engine is down on power it may well be down on compression. Buy a car what you think is a simple sensor problem, end up needing a new cylinder head I would avoid this car unless free.

Coming up to retire so have some folding money extra for a treat. Looking for something for fun motoring, speed not important. Would love an Austin Champ but prices now crazy. Looking for recommendations, friend picked up a cheap Merc SL with 5 Litre engine. Hoot. MPG not important, easy spares, and easy spanner work are. MK1 VW Golf? Old Merc SEL? Rover 800? even some nice Volvo 9 series factory stretch Limos out there for not a lot. Am I crazy? Looking for interesting ideas, which are fun and practicable. (old MX5mmmmm) Read more

I can see the point of censuring untoward contributions ...

Censuring, by all means. Censoring is something else, done by 'officials'.

Has anyone got access to the Toe Setting for a 2008 1.4 diesel Ford Fiesta van. I need to check the tracking but could do with the correct data first.

Thanks in advance folks. Read more

my 3.5 litre petrol v6 auto 'initiale' takes approx 2 secons to engage drive once 'd' is selected, it is fine in reverse. It has done 80k with a full history. Could this be to do with the gearbox oil level? Also are these belt or chain driven? The cambelt cover is made of metal, usually this means chain driven, or so im told. Finally the CD player may be faulty, i cant put a CD in it, as if one was already in there, though it says 'no CD'. I assume these are front loading, though i havent checked for a changer in the boot. Any ideas? Read more

Before new cars became so flabby there was no need for PAS. The original VW Golf weighed 780kg, the Golf Mark 6 weighs over 1200kg, or about the same as an early 90s Mercedes W124 E-Class. I had a Mark 3 Fiesta in 1990 and it certainly didn't need PAS and neither did the cars before it, with the exception of a wide tyred (for its time) 1983 Scirocco GTI.

I have just changed the engine 1905 cc turbo diesel. I took the engine out of citroen zx the same year as 306. I have fitted the fuel pump from the original peugeot engine because it has two electrical connectors, a blue one and a black one .The pump on the citroen only had the black connection . I think Im having problems with immobiliser - the starter motor does turn on the key but the pump is not delivering any fuel to the injectors - obviously the stop solinoid not getting live. The key has a button on it for central locking and immobiliser. Has anybody had a similar problem? and how did they resolve it?? Read more

i would assume you needed to fit the injection pump off your original engine or the electrical gubbins as a minimum
ive not done a pewgot swap but certainly on a ford its easier with the engine on the floor
even easier is to do away with the immobilisor and swap for a simple on off solenoid pump switch
sorry cant help anymore
