Just seen a woman i know carrying 4 children in the back. 3 were wearing seatbelts. She had an adult in the front seat and a child in the footwell. She is also driving with 2 faulty brake lights. Only the middle one in the rear screen works.
So she is carry 2 children with no seat belts, for which i believe carries 3 points £60 fine each
for each faulty light carries ???
and carrying more people than intended ???
any idea what points/fine she will receive if stopped by the police?
wish to make her aware of her actions. They only live up the road so no reason why they can't walk.

I took my Diesel LX600van to Citroen for the routine 80,000 mile service that includes cambelt change. They replaced the belt but not the tensioner and pully. and yes, 16 months and 17,000 miles later, the pulley seized, which broke the cam and I needed a replacement engine. When I told Citroen say they deny all responsibility, saying that they check the idler pulley and tensioner and only replace them if they are worn, (although they replace the cambelt whether it is worn or not.)
Can anyone please advise ....Should they have changed the whole cambelt kit at the time of the cambelt change, as otherwise the pulley and tensioner would have to last a total of 160,000 miles until the next cambelt service? Did they also have a duty of care to warn me of the consequences of not replacing the kit as I was blissfully unaware that there was a kit with the cambelt that had not been changed? Read more

Not a tonneau, but a canvas type thing with a frame, as is usual with Land Rover defenders.

Yes Manatee, that's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. I think they're american, but can't find a listing for Isuzu or Chevy Colorado with the right size bed. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
do you think they'll achieve 1,000 mph?

You would be better off getting an earlier engine with a purely mechanical pump and no key pad. I don't see to many problems fitting a turbo engine except that the exhaust is probably different. You will only need two connections, one to the fuel solonoid and one to the TDC sensor. You will also need a bonnet liner with provision for air intake to the intercooler.
What is the problem with your existing engine?
I'd vote for Cortina to Sierra. My company Cortina needed a new clutch every 20,000 miles, a new gearbox at 65,000 miles , a new diff at 80.000 and new discs every 30,000miles. It was completely knackered at 90,000 miles. My Sierras (two of them) did 135,000 miles and 140,000 miles with very little apart from regular servicing(one alternator and a couple of sets of discs). My susequent cars only showed a slight improvement on model change : Peugeot 405 to 406, Carlton to Omega and Audi A6 to....A6.
Going back to the 1950/60s, I can imagine big improvements in say a Ford Pop/Anglia (sit up and beg) to an Anglia with the reverse rake rear window.

Almera to Qashqai
HJ has recommended we ask main dealer if it is possible to convert this 4wd to 2wd, due to failure of viscous coupling, transfer box and prop shaft and extreme cost of repair. Can anyone give us more info on this before we contact the garage tomorrow morning please, we would like to be forewarned and ready with our queries. They have offered 1k to walk away. Would you?
Thanks in advance.

' failure of viscous coupling, transfer box and prop shaft ' - I'm a bit surprised that all of this has failed... Who has diagnosed this. I would think one of them has gone, but all of them???
I would think that if all the above has failed, then you might be able to source secondhand from the various online Japanese dismantlers.........
Any given reason for such catastrophic failure? A few years ago I flooded my engine in my Peugeot and insurance took care of that.

Hi, My Renault 2.2DCi started smoking excessively as well as having a lack of power. Coupled to that each time you out your foot down hard the Injection system light would come on, if you turned the engine off took out the card it would reset itself ?? Now not sure if these are linked, however after looking at some forums and talking to the garage that just serviced it we decided, after looking in the intakes ( lots of oil found there), that the turbo may have gone. Turbo seems to be a problem with this car !!, just bought second hand turbo and have had it fitted. The garage have just called to say that the smoke is as bad, when the blip the accelarator there is clouds of smoke - (blue) exits. So any ideas where this smoke could now be coming from and what should I do next, I want to get rid of this car ASAP. I have seen posts of people who have successfully gone to Renualt and received part funding for a repair, can anyone help out on that as well ?
Many thanks.

No idea but very often the police seem to go with what ever is the easiest conviction. I suspect in this case there is probably more faults with the car she could get points for too. If two brake lights are out you can guarantee at least one tyre is ilegal. Although I have known them to blow quite quickly after each other.
