In view of the recent flooding, has any Back roomer experience of salvaging a submerged car? Was it possible to get them going again and if so what were the costs and problems involved? I am specifically asking about short duration immersion, not about a vehicle that has been underwater for more than a day.
Some quite nice cars must come into this category each year and I wonder if a bit of patience and TLC could resurrect what an Insurance company might have written-off.
Has anyone actually done this?

Just seen a woman i know carrying 4 children in the back. 3 were wearing seatbelts. She had an adult in the front seat and a child in the footwell. She is also driving with 2 faulty brake lights. Only the middle one in the rear screen works.
So she is carry 2 children with no seat belts, for which i believe carries 3 points £60 fine each
for each faulty light carries ???
and carrying more people than intended ???
any idea what points/fine she will receive if stopped by the police?
wish to make her aware of her actions. They only live up the road so no reason why they can't walk.
Thanks Read more
No idea but very often the police seem to go with what ever is the easiest conviction. I suspect in this case there is probably more faults with the car she could get points for too. If two brake lights are out you can guarantee at least one tyre is ilegal. Although I have known them to blow quite quickly after each other.
I took my Diesel LX600van to Citroen for the routine 80,000 mile service that includes cambelt change. They replaced the belt but not the tensioner and pully. and yes, 16 months and 17,000 miles later, the pulley seized, which broke the cam and I needed a replacement engine. When I told Citroen say they deny all responsibility, saying that they check the idler pulley and tensioner and only replace them if they are worn, (although they replace the cambelt whether it is worn or not.)
Can anyone please advise ....Should they have changed the whole cambelt kit at the time of the cambelt change, as otherwise the pulley and tensioner would have to last a total of 160,000 miles until the next cambelt service? Did they also have a duty of care to warn me of the consequences of not replacing the kit as I was blissfully unaware that there was a kit with the cambelt that had not been changed? Read more

Not a tonneau, but a canvas type thing with a frame, as is usual with Land Rover defenders.

Thanks guys.
Yes Manatee, that's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. I think they're american, but can't find a listing for Isuzu or Chevy Colorado with the right size bed. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.
do you think they'll achieve 1,000 mph?
