With a few months of this nonsense under our belts now, I wonder if anyone has successfully gone into a dealers, negotiated a good deal ......... and then said "Oh, and could you do me another £2000, please, 'cos I've got an ancient Mondeo here that I'd like to scrap". Read more

Dealers have been preparing for the end of this since just after Christmas. Our papers are full of adverts with £2,000 off any new car - trade in or not.

It shows the manufacturers have this headroom in the prices.

Hello,

I have recently discovered by chance that the boot to my vehicle does not lock. I have tried and tested various ways of making it lock but it remains unlocked at all times which is obviously a security issue. Its central locking and a 3 door if thats any help. The two other doors lock fine. Any suggestions? Thanks Read more

Hi,

My fiat ducato lwb van has had the rear door lock damaged due to attempted theft.

the lock needs replacing.
I phoned Fiat for a price of a new barrel. They have told me I need to replace all the locks on the vehicle, and the price starts at £350.

The vehicle does have central locking, so I assume it is something to do with that.

Can someone tell me if Fiat are correct, or can I just change the barrel and have a separate key?

Many thanks

I've got a 95 1.4 swing no fuel getting to engine. Has been cutting out intermitantly for a few months. Sometimes drives 200 yards then cuts out, always been able to start it again, but now it stopped and won't start.
I have a spark, poured some petrol down the inlet and cranked the engine, it fired.
I read a similar thread where a sensor and a relay were mentioned, where do I find them so I can test for power to the fuel pump. Read more

Best way to test for power from pump relay is to test at the pump. If I remember correctly the pump is in the tank and is got at by removing rear seat base to reveal a screwed on hatch, remove this and you should see top of tank with two pipes and a multi connector, normally there are 4 or 5 wires the smaller wires are the gauge the others pump. Remove connector test larger wires when cranking, if relay is working will produce 12v then nothing when is not cranking. If nothing may be fuel pump relay, main relay or the ECU. Relay should be above ECU behind the kick panel on the passenger side footwell, Good luck

And none of the dire things mentioned above did actually happen to her.

She did get oil all over herself.

I took it to be an attempt at humour too - if you knew nothing, you couldn't do an oil and filter change from watching that video, and it wasn't by any stretch of the imagination done properly.

I have a 2001 Mk3 diesel with a TDDi engine. I would appreciate some help please.
Today, the car was running quite happily but then appeared to"misfire" and judder a bit. I pulled into a layby and tried to rev it up to see if it would clear but it didn't, only a lot of knocking noise from the engine, then it stopped and I couldn't restart. I had no warning lights come up and the engine did not overheat. However, having waited about an hour, I started it up again and it ran OK, no problems at all so I continued my journey. BUT in a couple of miles the same thing happened and I had to get a recovery vehicle out. By the time the truck arrived, the driver could drive the car on and off OK.
The car has done 170,000 miles and as far as I know has not had the fuel filter replaced. Could this be the problem? Any advice would be appreciated

This NOT what it is usualy is. I never use it. My MP is also behind this supporting this but I wondered if anybody knew anything which would speed things up.

Local traders are trying to get the car park owners to change their attitude but they are refusing.

Basicaly people are charged £1 for the first hour to use the car park, but now they are charging people just for driving through. Before the preicent was built cica 1970 (Ted will probably know the exact date) it was a local road with houses on both side, that road is now the car park road.

We are convinced something must be ilegal here. Local roads round the car park are now dangerious to drive to because of all the ilegal parking because people refuse to use the car park.

The car park uses ANPR and is this an ilegal use of it? You enter then enter your neg number at the machine then if you enter in peedo code:-

If number plate = entered then don't fine
If no number plate entered send out fines for all drivers.

It just sinks of a money making racket.

There is lots and lots of shops here and this is the only car park, there is also lots and lots of offices. We about 8 years ago lost one big carpark for a block of flats. There is a Morrisons just down the road also in the village centre and now that gets so full it causes problems for their shoppers as spaces are now hard to find.

Sorry I am just in a rage. Read more

My local Sainsbury's has evidently engaged a scam outfit for enforcing 'Mother and Child' and 'Disabled' Bays in the Car Park. 'Offenders' against the rules will receive a 'Parking Charge Notice' for £50. Wonder why those initials are 'PCN'. Might it be to make it look like the real thing? It really is time that this whole nonsensical business was properly sorted out. By all means enforce the rules but fake fines and threats along with the exorbitant charges are really not on.

well let me explain from the start, i went to the shell garage on tuesday 11.08.09 like i do every 3-4 days and filled my car up to the brim with diesel. i started my car and only after 1.8 miles i was pulling up to a set of lights when it felt like i stalled it so i turned the key and the car was trying to start but wouldnt (if you know what i mean) the engine was turning over but not starting.

after ringing the AA they came along and un done the pipe that goes to the filter and sprayed a little carbon monoxide/dioxide into it and it started first time. The car then continued to be running. we turned the engine off and then back on and it worked like it always has. The AA guy plugged his laptop into the engine management and there were no fault codes coming up on his screen he did the normal rev tests and he said things were fine.

Today Thursday 13.08.09 i have started the car this morning and drove from Birmingham to Leeds as i do most days.

The car has done 145,000 miles and it had its long life service at 137,000 it has a full service history the cam belt was changed at 127,000 all from VW Dealer.

The AA guy said it could be the Filter or the Pump not pumping enough fuel, but the tank was full and the filter had only been changed less than 10,000 miles ago.

Question is why has this happend??? did i fill the car too much (can you do that?) as i have always filled it to the brim before and never had any problems with it of could there have been a bit of water in the filter. as you can tell im not techinically minded and dont want to shelling out hundreds of pounds for the problem to happen again.

PLEASE HELP.

My daughter is a young driver and has a £400 excess on her 53 plate Fiesta. Another driver came in from a junction to her left on a roundabout and pranged her car. Her innocence shouldn't be difficult to prove but you know how it can be if the other party starts making things up.

She is fully comp and is going to ring her insurance company tonight (Direct Line). I think she has no claims protection but she is checking. Anyone any idea whether the insurance company is likely to pursue the other party for the excess and others costs? I can't help but think that they don't do that anymore.

Thanks for any help.

if say it goes 25/75 in favour of my daughter

I'm afraid she would lose her NCB unless protected and she will be liable for the excess..
Increase of premium unlikely unless this not own accident.

If she feels third party is actually 100% to blame and is able to recover her excess in full from the third party her Insurer will reinstate NCB if presented with proof of the recovery
