I'm looking to rent for 6 days in October. Avis gave me a great rate of 100 quid last April for the same duration, but this time they want almost 200?! The other big companies are asking similar prices. Have car hire prices risen everywhere? Is the recession being blamed? Anyone else also noticed price hikes?

The best deal I can find is to fly into France instead of Spain and get a prepaid week for 155 quid. Spain always used to be cheaper than France??! Read more

Can anyone confirm/deny anymore lights that should come on when you turn the key? (They all go out after a few seconds. Haven't got an owners manual to hand to see if any more lights should be on or not).

Dave we sorted this on the VxON Forums.

Yes, you're right. I didn't connect you with the person over there until I popped over the fence this morning.
it appears all the VxON people are on here!

I wouldn't say all, but there are probably a few ;o)

Hi and sorry for the late reply, I've been away.

I'll try what Kith has suggested, seems like the easier option.

Thanks a lot.

OK, Enfield Fred's treated us to the ' longest '
Now , any ideas about the shortest engine run. I have one in mind but I'll save it until we've got a few in.
I don't mean a one off special fitted with a Proteus, but something you could drive up the High Street in and do the shopping.

Last week I purchased some of Tesco's own brand oil. It's semi-synthetic 10W/40 and conforms to API/SL specification, so I assume its pretty decent stuff. On the back of the container it states that it's made in the UK. Does anyone know who makes this oil for Tesco please?

{seems a general question, so made non make/model specific. It's only over in Tech Matters that it's compulsory to chose a make & model. Over on here either a Category, or make/model is sufficient} Read more

I forsee an advertising slogan:

Hello

Check your tyre pressures !

Normal sharp handling + overinflated rear tyres *by garage*

= spongy/wallowing feel to car with added rearwheel esq steering !!

Suspected worn shock absorbers bushes etc

Checked & adjusted tyre pressures normal sharp handling returned.

The right tyre pressures do help!

I really don't see it all. Handeling wise I have driven worse, my MK3 Fiesta for a start. The main fault though is the gear change is just to vague and notchy (I think they are all like that) it just lacks that fluidicity which most Fords seem to have and it is why my next car will be a Ford.

Handeling is rather average but doing 30mph in the city it really dosn't matter.

I really don't get what is supposed to be wrong with the EPS on the Corsa B. Nice and light round the city, heavier at higher speeds. I've driven some cars like the Clio III and it just feels like you're driving on ice about 40mph.

Thank You for pointing this out. I wouldn't want to mislead the OP. More signs of my approaching senility, I suspect. :-(

Happy Blue!

Currently driving a KIA Sedona diesel automatic whilst overseas.

Possibly the most unsafe car I have ever driven. The turbo lag is so great that the car will not pull the skin of a rice pudding until it reaches about 1,800 revs at which point it takes off like a scalded cat. No acceleration away from a sanding start, roundabouts need careful preparation and lots of use of the tiptronic version of the gearbox and plane silly gearing so that the cruising revs are so high (presumably for economy) that there is every need for kickdown if you just think about overtaking.

Ugh!

Mind you, it is reasonably economical for a car of this size (i.e. huge). Read more

If you didn't like the Kia Sedona (a car I have never driven) don't get in an auto Mitsubishi Colt. Had one as a loan car up in London, and when I needed to nip into a gap, put my foot down and nothing happened for what seemed like 5 seconds, but probably more like 1 second. Slightly disconcerting to say the least!
