Tesco own brand oil - happytorque
Last week I purchased some of Tesco's own brand oil. It's semi-synthetic 10W/40 and conforms to API/SL specification, so I assume its pretty decent stuff. On the back of the container it states that it's made in the UK. Does anyone know who makes this oil for Tesco please?

{seems a general question, so made non make/model specific. It's only over in Tech Matters that it's compulsory to chose a make & model. Over on here either a Category, or make/model is sufficient}

You can't trust brands these days. Princes distributes the Mazola brand, and produces Olivio and Flora cooking oils under licence from Unilever, so maybe they knock out the 'motor' oil for Tesco at the same time.

Point being the spec tells you more than the brand - even if it is supplied by Chevron/Morris/Millers/Comma, it doesn't mean it's just a relabelled standard product. Why wouldn't a supermarket buyer just demand the cheapest oil that meets the spec?

I doubt Tesco would put their brand at risk by selling an oil or any other product that wasn't up to snuff. They didn't get to be the biggest by being stupid.

Their non synthetic oil has worked well in my lawnmowers since 2006..

Pretty sure I've seen previous mention in the forum that Comma make it for Tesco. Don't quote me on it though.

I forsee an advertising slogan:

"Use Comma oil - so that your engine doesn't have a Full Stop"
