Been driving 2001 Mondeo for a couple of weeks and occasionally there seems to be a 'slipping' / 'belt rubbing' sound (only quick sound then stops) when I change down gears (usually 4th to 3rd but sometimes 3rd to 2nd also). Doesnt happen often - just if you lift the clutch a little quickly when changing it seems.
I'm not technical at all but any thoughts would be appreciated. The car has done 72K miles if that helps
Thanks,

Hi everyone,
Just bought a 2001 Ford Mondeo and only just realised there is a problem with the remoe locking having used the remote for over a week and not actually checked the car was locked!!!
I press the lock button and it locks and then quickly unlocks the car. I have to use the key to lock it now - I can unlock all doors apart from the drivers (one I locked using key) with the remote but then have to use the key to unlock the drivers....
Any ideas? Is it easy/cheap to fix?
Thanks,
Ed

Last one I bought was for Mrs. H's Punto, and it's to the car's credit that I've only had to refer it once, to sort out a jammed door-locking mechanism.
General consensus on the Harley scene is that Haynes manuals are actually worse than useless, because bits of advice conflict with the factory manuals which are widely recognised to be the best. I advise people to use those (expensive but worth it) or at worst use the Clymer manuals which are a decent halfway house between the factory and Haynes.
Biggest problem with Haynes is that they try to cover too much, and this is especially true when you have a vehicle which has a long production span. It would be impossible to fit all the upgrades and detail differences in and still make the book usable and affordable. Conversely, it cannot help Haynes when manufacturers change their models more frequently, as is the case nowadays.
i'm looking to start a collection of family suitable car related films to play to the kids in the coach on the run up to heatrow.
i've got the italian job, original, not the one of the same name. the kids like it, as do i.
the original french 'taxi' has a bit of nudity so might not be suitable.
'blues brothers' has swearing, still a very good film with great music.
the new 'dukes of hazzard' was very wooden and cheesey.
'speed' might make them, and me, a bit paranoid.
any ideas on a suitable motoring related film on dvd?

not really cars, but Convoy should be OK.
Has anyone got any suggestions how to solve this problem?
My neighbour's cat has taken to sitting on the wife's 93 Cabriolet roof. As I'm sure you all know it's a fabric roof and, although he hasn't done it yet, I'm dreading the day the cat digs his claws into it with the consequent pulling of threads and damage it may cause.
I'm not a major fan of cats but I am an animal lover so I don't want to harm it so does anybody have any "humane" ways of stopping it sitting up there? Read more
TCP solution. As regards solutions sold as repellents, I sprayed our drive entrance to discourage our new Burmese from straying into the road. A few minutes later, I found him sprawling on the sprayed area.
Hallo
In the Market for a polo and have seen what I think is a good one. Has fsh. But I am no mechanic.
If it's had Mot this week, and a full service in feb, do I need to pay to have it checked out by a mechanic? Or rather, which elements need to be checked?
Thanks in advance! Read more
you're buying a car for around 40% more than it would be worth without a vw badge on it.
200 quid for an aa inspection is a drop in the ocean.
Now I have seen everything. We went to Belvoir Castle for the day, and it took us ages to get away because a huge peacock fell in love with my car and wouldn't move. I kid you not. The attendant said he had been cuddling up to the car for the whole two hours we were in the castle. He wasn't posturing or doing any other form of competing. He was cuddling, and - if he did but know it - admiring his own reflection. The car is indigo, but in the sunshine it really was peacock blue. Easy mistake.
Kind of restores my faith in birds. For the last ten months an angry robin has been attacking my Nissan Qashqai and using it as his lavatory.
Very odd question, but have any of you got other bird meets car stories - apart from roadkill reports?
Ever pondering,

And the fact they can get a web going a long distance
Yes, hence the "World Wide Web".
....off to the cloakroom.
I'm after a small second car, for use on small school run, pootling, and occasional works trips when the family volvo in use by him indoors. Budget - less than 2k. I want really cheap to run, good reliability, no rust. My favorite car of all time was my F reg Polo - TBH I'm used to crappy cars and the v50 drives me mad with stupid computers warnings all the time, and its a garage job to change a headlight bulb, so I want back to basics, no frills, sod all to go wrong.
I've seen a low mile FSH 106 but its well overpriced (think they might come down), was thinking ford KA MK2 but the rust issue puts me off. I've had polo's and metro's in the past, not having a micra, but that kind of thing. Am I far off with a 1.1 106? Bit underpowered for the occasional M40 trip but I've done it before...mostly it will be small runs....

Ah well, the guy with the pug came down a fair bit, and it turned out it had a full main dealer SH with the last service being last month. One genuine lady owner from new, 29k on the clock. Its erm - pristine is the only word, and its now sat outside :). Thanks everyone for your input. xx
I have had my 00 1.8 pug estate for 3 years.
When starting from cold I have always had a quite loud high pitched whine which disappears quite quickly , say 5mins, after it warms up. It is orse in cold weather.
Very worrying.
I had everything checked out by Peugeot main dealer when a new cambelt was fitted last year. They could find nothing wrong they say , but by the time they moved the car into the workshop the noise had stopped anyway I guess.
Is this peculiar to petrol engine pugs?
Is it common?

The time has sadly come when I must say farewell to a car which has slowly rusted away during the course of the last 11 years - due to inactivity and neglect. It has been SORN'd for the past five years.
I would really like to break the car for spares - it's worth far more in bits than as a 'going concern' - but that will probably leave it looking like a turkey four days after Christmas Day :-)
Is the price of scrap metal still high enough for a scrappie to collect a bare shell FOC? I could argue that I'm doing them a favor by removing most of the non-metallic parts for them!

I did ask the
women about them once.....
Proof - if such be needed - that women do not possess the "that'll come in useful sometime" gene :-)

Sounds like the drivers door lock has failed, not too uncommon after 8 years. You might find this Mondeo DIY guide useful.
