Just finished prepping the engine bay on the 2005, Mk2b Multijet Punto Van.

Serviced - Mobil 1 & filters + under-body grease (and so on)

Engine bay protected as usual with WD40 prior to Autumn.

But there`s something that`s none standard - can you spot it?

(I don`t mean the boat varnish - that you might just be able to detect, having soaked into the wiring looms taped joints)

Here are two views of the engine bay.

Here is a pic of the bonnet seal as a standard fitting on our Mk2.

Our Peugeot 405 diesel has started overheating whilst at high speed, we have checked both fans and they work at both low and high speed. -high speed kicks in about 110
My other half has been putting the heater on full and hot to help get some of the heat out of the system, though when this was done the other night the heater started out blowing out hot air and then it cooled down till it was very cool air that was coming though, even though the temperature gauge was up to about 110 and we could hear the fans going at high speed -Does this suggest that there is an air lock causing the problem or am I thinking along the wrong lines?

Thanks Read more

If these are the same as the Citroen ZX engines, then you should see in various places around the cooling system some bleeding points, heater, thermostat and radiator. To bleed these free of air lock you should get a plastic container like a milk bottle and maybe wrap some tape around the bottle neck to get a snug fit in the rad filler neck.

You then fill the bottle with engine running and bleed these various points, and keeping the bottle full.

If you are not using water of any large amount of more than 1/2 litre per 200 miles, then I think the Rad is needing replacement otherwise, if you are using a great deal of water then the head gasket is suspect.

But do not allow these engines to overheat or you will surely blow the gasket.

Hi,
My zetec puma has made a fast ticking/clicking noise since I bought it 18 months ago- it seems more noticable some days than others, although never really loud.
The noise is linked to revs (ie. gets faster when you rev it)
It isn't too loud but I did think it was a diesel coming into the street the other day when my wife was driving it.
I've driven a mondeo that made a similar sound.

Car has 80k on the clock and is running perfectly in every way with no mods.

Any ideas what could be the cause- is this normal or common fault on pumas? Ford didn't seem to notice it when they changed the cambelt last year.

Thanks in advance,
Mike. Read more

cheers rich320d,
I'll try an engine flush as I've decided to do the service myself- can't justify paying £160(service inc. plugs and engine flush) for the garage to do it.
Mike.

Has anyone any experience of using diesel in very cold climites? Having been working with some americans recently and got chatting to them about the differences between US and the UK. Having first covered the important subjects, the price and quality of beer in our respective countries ;-) the conversion changed to cars specifically diesels there was a strong believe that they would struggle to start in the cold northern states in winter. Does anyone work with cars in cold countries or test them? Could an additive be added easily like FSII in aircraft fuel? I think diesel and aircraft fuel are fairly similar.

I've driven a few diesel but nowhere really cold. Read more

quoted £xxx for a punp rebuild etc etc , so I sorted it for £5

pici here www.2130tj.co.uk/1/v1.jpg shown along side a conventional valve from a central heating unit

tiz a nice one way valve that stops fuel running out of a worn pump , back into the tank

15 yrs later i used this in a enfield motorcycle to stop oil blowing back

'New Tricks' last night showed a successful stereotype of a 60's comedian ( Bernard Manning type ) in the present day leaving his huge detached house with his golf clubs .

He then proceeded to put them in the boot of a ....??? Not what I would expect such a person to drive

Clue - it was not a Rolls Royce or Jaguar....

...... A bit of Friday fun- take a guess ...

I used to go to the Isle of Man on business some years ago. I would hire a car at Ronaldsway and bowl around the island for a couple of days. Usually they were Metros. Mmmm nice ( not ). But, as you do, I would always have a hurl round the TT circuit in whatever I had hired. One time the only thing they had was a Marina or maybe it was an Ital estate. Nearly disgraced myself a few times trying to hustle that bag of spanners to any respectable velocity. Frighteningly bad handling even by the standards of the day. I reckon it was only my courtesy to the fairies which saved my neck. ( the bridge fairies ! )..........

Picked up the latest copy of TG magazine in Whsmith and the review of the Jazz i-Shift fairly lept off the page. The overall rating - 7/20. With the reviewer saying that a manual Jazz is a 16/20 car, but the i-Shift is one of the worst gearboxes on sale today

Honda pride themselves on listening to customers. I wonder how if they'll respond to this from a big-selling magazine?

I do hope they listen, that i-shift box in the Jazz is a big mistake.

How anyone can defend it (and there are a few on here) as being OK I'll never know!

I'm in a dilema. We've had two Kias before. Both Prides. One excellent (M reg) - we ran it for 10 years fault free. The one that followed (W reg)wasn't anywhere near as good.

What are newer Kias like? I hear good things about picantos but I'm thinking of a diesel Carens on an 06 plate having just tested a 17k example and rather liked it. Are they reliable? I tend to keep a good car a long time or get rid of it if it starts playing up rather than risk it costing me a fortune. The reason I'm wary is that I've just had a problematic Citroen Xsara HDI and on a limited budget cannot afford another duffer. Any advice appreciated. Read more

Anyone else out there find this car suffers from high road noise?
Its my wifes car, and I love driving it otherwise, but I find the road noise irritatingly high at above 60ish mph on motorways etc.
Also, the front suspension is a bit "clunky" on my local rough Berkshire roads at low speeds. I describe it as making "knocky-knocky" sounds if that means anything to you.
Compared with my 9 year old Peugeot 406 it seems very noisy to me anyway on both counts.
Anyone know where I can get a soundproofing kit for it?
A mechanic has told me that Mazda have made the rubber bushes in the supension too hard - which is probably why the car handles so well otherwise!
So, he says soundproofing wont help much since the noise is coming up through the suspension arms, springs and shocks into the bodywork.
I wonder if later models and particularly the new 2010 model has been improved in this respect?

I had similar problem changed rear bearing hubs etc, noise too loud as Iam a high mileage airport transfer taxi and got too loud to talk to each other.
Was tyres in the end was using Uniroyal with a V pattern and they were rotational.
Now I have a set of continentals with straight tyre grooves and the car is so quiet..!!!

Howdy, I've been offered an Accent for very reasonable money but the kicker is this, when you start the engine, the lights come on without the switch being turned and wont go out even when the key is removed from the ignition, I appreciate that this would suggest some form of short but have no idea where to start looking, any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers for reading. Read more
