Car

Have been reading the thread about cycle carriers with interest www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=69659&...f and this has got me thinking as to what cars would carry two adult size bikes in them with out having dismantled the bikes and leave some rooom for luggage.

Thanks Read more

Hi,

I have a recently acquired 1999 Grand Voyager and the outside temperature reads 0 at all times.

Can someone please tell me where the sensor is located so that I can trace the wires back, or maybe replace the sensor. I reckon it was disturbed whilst the LPG system was fitted.

Thanks

Ok, I have fitted the new sensor and all is good.

Not suprised the old one didn't work as the top of it was missing :)

Thanks

I keep looking at pics and the website and thing "Hmmmm, nice", but apart from one on a dealer's forecourt, I don't think I have seen one on the road yet.

Then the other day, I walked by another Renault dealer and they had one on their forecourt as well. But, it was a really dull grey day weatherwise, and this particular coupe was in that very pale metallic blue/silver colour with a black interior, and suddenly, it didn't look so attractive.

In fact, could it be that as with some other past Renault (and others) daring ideas. it could be a quick flash in the pan and may be quietly withdrawn? "Avantime too", some may say. Shame really, but of course the state of the economy won't help much I guess.

Just a thought really. Read more

Saw one (Laguna Coupe) the other morning at the Sheriffhall roundabout outside Edinburgh. Looked quite nice, but seemed a bit twitchy going round the roundabout.

It certanly looks nicer than the Audi A5 - and probably drives a little further back from the car in front too!

Are the bulbs replaceable in the the Push-button Facia Panel switches (used for rear window heater/air-con etc.) ??

There are 2 bulbs in each push-button switch, one for illumination & one for when switch is operated.

I have taken switches out, had a look at bulbs, tried pulling them out a bit with pliers, but they don't seem to be moving. Don't want to use too much force & break them.

Are these bulbs replaceable or do you have to replace whole switch when a bulb is not working ?? Read more

peter973

Yeah I'm fairly sure I used grain of rice bulbs in my Carlton swich repairs
OK there was a bit more roof for manouver in those switches. I'd still just
buy complete switches off ebay now though unless I enjoyed the challenge of fixing the
old ones.

Got some switches from a scrapyard
Had a look inside them, they're easy to take apart.

Found there are 2 small bulbs inside, one slightly bigger than the other.

The bulbs sit on a little baseboard, both bulbs are either soldered to it or their filament wires are tied together underneath.

Each type of switch (Rear Demister, Rear Fog, Air Con, Air Recirc) generally have a different locating pin position on back of switch, so you can't put wrong switch in wrong position and different electrical pinouts.

(although Air Recirc & Rear Fog have similiar pinouts on back, so probably can swop main bodies ok, putting on correct front)

The bulbs on their baseboard are easy to swop in switch body if you have right type from another switch.

whilst driving car it lost the power steering and began to overheat. No evidence of a drive belt braking. Stopped car turned off igniton and waited for the cooling fan to cool engine.
Restarted when cooled but still no power steering and the temperature was beginning to rise again. Any suggestions please ????? Read more

We ordered our 500C back in May and was given an expected delivery in Mid August. Now it's nearly September and they still can't tell us when we'll get our car. A few weeks ago we were told it had left the factory, but more recently all they can say is the status is the same. Surely Fiat should know where their cars are? Or has our car been diverted elsewhere? Can anyone advise what to do? Read more

Its mum's car.
!996 N reg/5 door with 54k

She says when in drive with the handbrake on the car moves forward, with a groaning noise coming from the rear brakes.

I have tested it myself and it does seem that the passenger rear caliper is not working, as the car lurches to one side when moving forward.

Is there a known issue with the rear calipers seizing?

11 clicks of the handbrake till fully on.

With the handbrake on, the adjuster arm that tightens the handbrake cable is wonky so i was wondering if this meant something had seized at the caliper.

Its an old car but she will spend any amount to ensure it is safe, and has become quite attached to it.

Many thanks in advance.

Just a follow up to this post for Bigtee.

Pads and discs had plenty of meat left on and were in good condition. It turned out that the handbrake arm on the nearside had seized at the caliper, which with a bit of effort is now free and the car has just sailed through the MOT. The rear discs have no separate parking brake pads and just use the conventional single set up. It would have been £65 plus labour for a new rear caliper.

Thanks again for your advice Bigtee

I really need a schematic diagram of this engine showing the names of the attached components , eg starter motor etc.
If you can point me to such a thing on the 'net, or even video such a diagram and post it on YouTube, I would be delighted. Thanks in anticipation. JT Read more
