Was passed by a most unusual small car today, it had a very curved bonnet and boot lid both of which were corrugated, not sure how many corrugations on the bonnet but the bootlid had 3 i think.
The rear window was reverse sloping like a Ford Anglia, the car appeared smallish, it seemed to be a sort of updated 2CV.
It was in black, seemed quite new and as best i could read the badge on the boot it was called a WILL V1..i think.
Any ideas what this was, i hadn't been on the shandy by the way. Read more
Maybe it's just my imagination but I see an echo of the 1930 Burney streamlined car - also made by Crossley. Google it if you're too young to know what I'm talking about!
while i was greasing the digger this morning i came to me.
is there a production car intended for the uk market that still has grease nipples?
not counting trucks which i know have them.
what with the use of nylon, teflon and other sealed for life units i can't think of any.
any that you know of? Read more
The MG TF is based on two Metro front sub-frames stuck together so it probably has grease nipples.
As far as I know its still in production, but only just.
The HT lead to the front passenger side spark plug on my 2.5 v6 is breaking down and I want to replace.
Although I have done other work on the car including replacing the spark plugs and cam cover gaskets I have no experience of DIS ignition systems. So bear with my simple question.
Does the old HT lead pull off the dis unit and is the new lead a push fit and just pushed on similarily to the lead being pushed on to the spark plug .
I plan to take off the scuttle will this let me see the dis unit.
Any other advice appreciated.
Ps I can see the and hear the lead breaking down.

sorry assumed that you were talking about the cyl lay out, no easy way just lay over top of engine and do it by feel, i know moneys tight but you would be wise to change the set as you have found out not much fun to do and you would not want to do it six times !!,Regards TB
Am I just lucky, or is tailgating getting less common?
It seems to me that people are, in general, hanging back until I move over, then overtaking, rather than sitting halfway up my exhaust.

Not so really SS although that is certainly the intuitive view.
I thought slip streaming benefited the vehicles behind the leader. Don't cyclists take it in turns to be the leader and hence the one doing the most work?
I have been raged at a few times recently by young blokes who are normally accompanied by a mate as a passenger. The slightest excuse and they are yelling with contorted faces or showing that they can count up to two with the fingers of one hand...the less intelligent only make it to one finger. Anyone else think this sort of thing is on the increase? Read more
You should have got out of your car and said to him "I'll blow your

Snaily,
There are parts of London, where that sort of conversation could easily have some most unforeseen consequences!

This post is about ageing fuel in car fuel tanks. Petrol and diesel. (I touched on this a while back)
I was just reflecting on it. Arrived home from France early July, the remaining diesel from Calais then lasted a few weeks. Refueled and weeks later still have a 2/3 tank of derv left.
Now the next continental trip in the van, has been canceled and we will be flying out to the far east - even for the first time using a taxi to Manchester airport.
That will still leave the 2/3rds tank as we enter October... Summer diesel.
I don`t see a problem with that as (from memory) Summer derv is OK to -7c. But how about the ageing proportion of fuel in the tank
The common wisdom is to keep the tank full of derv to avoid air and subsequent water contamination of fuel.
But it seems to me, there must be a trade off at some point between a drop or so of water that can be easily drained from the filter and derv that is continuing to deteriorate, with the risk of forming asphaltines that are large enough to start plugging the filter - IF the fuel in the tank is not emptied by use as much as possible before each refueling.
I wonder how much of the water concern (microbes) arises from evidence in static storage tanks where there is not a constant circulation of fuel with a filter to separate it out?
In other words, taking a stance where `condensation concerns` are paramount. How does that change over time?

That will be a shame, I used to see that van a lot when it was parked in the previous owners flat drive. I always wondered why the landlord put up with it. Hopefully it will go to a good owner.
I cannot remember the last time I saw 4 on the road.

Maybe someone has pushed them in manually, try unfolding them manually and see what happens.
Intermittently, on the dash centre computer display a warning message comes up, telling us to check the engine oil level.
The oil pressure warning light does not illuminate and the engine oil is full.
Just as a precaution, I intend to change the oil and filter, can anyone suggest courses of action should the message persist.
Many thanks. Read more
Mine has only ever come on intermittently when the oil level is getting low ish, if the level is fine then maybe a loose / corroded connection somewhere.

Could be a faulty temp sensor.
