The HT lead to the front passenger side spark plug on my 2.5 v6 is breaking down and I want to replace.
Although I have done other work on the car including replacing the spark plugs and cam cover gaskets I have no experience of DIS ignition systems. So bear with my simple question.
Does the old HT lead pull off the dis unit and is the new lead a push fit and just pushed on similarily to the lead being pushed on to the spark plug .
I plan to take off the scuttle will this let me see the dis unit.
Any other advice appreciated.
Ps I can see the and hear the lead breaking down.

Yes they are a push fit- and a pfd to get to on the V6. Vx dealers used to charge over 200 quid for the set of 6, maybe cheaper now....A set from Autovaux was about 90 quid when I bought them a few years back.

no 6 is usually the one that gets the most grief meaning its a pig to get on and off so gets pulled about, straight forward pull off push on but not so simple in practice, there should be a red/orange tool that fits over the lead to help remove the lead when changing plugs may have been tossed any way have fun doing them and allow plenty of time to do them Regards TB

Thanks to everyone for advice.
Took off the scuttle for a quick look. At first quick look couldnt locate the dis unit - all you can see are hoses and vacuum pipes. Does the whole thing have to be done by feel tracing back the relevant plug lead. Dont have a problem with the spark plug end since I have already done these. Agree about number 6
On passenger side do the cylinders run 2 4 6 with 2 at the timing belt/radiator end and 6 at the bulkhead
Is it possible or easier to access the dis unit from underneath using a hoist

Forgot to ask is 135 on dis unit closeest to bulk head with 1 on passenger side, making 246 on dis unit next to back of engine with 4 on passenger side, making 2 and 5 closest to centre of car

1,3,5 is left bank front to rear as you look at engine from front 2,4,6 front to rear right side, iirc there is a legend stamped into rocker cover, yes its a feel job, helps if you have done a bit of gyno work before, do them one at a time, last one that i did found that the dis pack had corroded and swelled up causeing the misfire so before you put the scuttle back fire it up also a usual thing to do is to knock the dash temp sensor wire off make sure that it still reads after you have fitted the leads but before you put the scuttle back on, enjoy, Regards TB

Topbloke thanks for info.
Progress report found the dis unit.
Sadly no 2 lead is the inside contact on DIS unit closest to the engine, ie order is as you know
Bulkhead
5 3 1
2 6 4
Engine
Number 2 is the one I want to replace and sadly appears to be the most inaccessible. Have you any advice tricks to make it easier or possible.
Tried pullig up but it wouldn't budge - not much room to get any leverage.
Also was concerned as to how I would get the new one on given how inaccessible it is
Thanks

sorry assumed that you were talking about the cyl lay out, no easy way just lay over top of engine and do it by feel, i know moneys tight but you would be wise to change the set as you have found out not much fun to do and you would not want to do it six times !!,Regards TB
