Hi all.
Need some advice from the pros. Just purchased an Turbo Diesel(DHX/XUD9)with 88K on the clock.
It was a mess being in limp mode. With air in the diesel, glowplugs not working and was just running bad. Replaced air/fuel/oil filters,
glowplugs, changed engine and gearbox oil.Starts first time and runs smooth.Revs quick however not underload. (Limp mode) Found that the instument panel was opened and ABS/Engine Diagnostic/Airbag lights missing. Replaced lights and found that the Engine Diognostic light stays on untill engine is at opporating temp. Goes off and goes on again as soon as I try to excellerate (in limp mode. No power, work the gears to get her going to 70). I tried to read the CPU by inserting a paper clip in pin5 and 6 in the 16-pin ALDL connector. Did not even work. What does it sound like and can I find the fault myself. How??
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'm having an issue that doesn't seem quite the same as other people's experiences here. When I am cruising at about 70mph (3000rpm) the power drops off severely for a second then kicks back in. It will do this a few times then not again for 20mins or so - any ideas on what this might be?
Also, i'm not sure if it is related or not but the car feels quite lumpy on idle and the revs raise just a fraction every now and again?!?
Any help would be much appreciated Read more
Swap the throttle position sensor first.
My 17 year old daughter is learning to drive, and is unable to drive my car or my wifes (Mine Saab 9-5, wife, Aygo, leased and unable to put learner on insurance) She is having lessons but the instructor has emphasised the need to practice more, which is currently impossible. She has about £1400 saved and would like to buy a car which I can register in my name and insure for all of the family, her included, to drive. As it would be my 2nd car I would have to start off a new insurance policy and thus it's important to buy a low insurance group car. Current front runners are Corsa 12v , Fiat Seicento and Micra (the latter very reluctantly as she sees it as a 'Grannies car' and is group 3) These are all in the lowest 2 insurance groups, depending on models. I've found 2 local-ish Fiats, 1 at £895 with 88k miles, one at £795 with 110k miles, both with dealers and looking in good condition from photos (I've yet to look at a car) This would leave her some money over for any repairs. There are currently no bottom spec Corsa's about (these things don't hang about) and only 2 Micra's within 40 miles, both with higher mileages. My daughter is desperate for a car, I don't know what to do. The other alternative is to pay for more lessons, forger the car for the time being and get her up to test standard that way. Any thoughts, similar experiences etc? Read more
" Have you looked at the Ford Ka"
I did look at a number when myolder daughter was looking for a car a year or so ago( she ended up with a Yaris, which despite a high mileage has been a paragon of virtue) and I didn't see one cheaper one that didn't have bubbling paintwork, particularly around the filler cap. Put me off a bit.
Help
We have a 53 plate 2.0 HDI and recently every journey has seen the "anti-pollution Fault" light appear and a corresponding rev cut to 2200 rpm - switch engine off for about 30 minutes, fault reset and car back to normal.
(Peugeot gave it a good ignoring on the last service)
Yesterday as usual light came on about ten miles later going up a hill car made what sounded like a pinking sound and then started to self rev to 5000 ish rpm and emmitted enough white smoke to fill three lanes of the an A road. This was despite my wife pulling over quite smartish and me taking the keys out of the ignition and us running away and watching the thing seemingly about to self destruct - having taken the inlet tract apart it is oil impregnated - any ideas.

Still thinking about this, not sure if this car has a FAP, does anyone know if the warning in the DPF FAQ (tinyurl.com/l37e93) re. sump oil contamination can apply in any way, shape or form, to a system using eolys?
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering what the best product would be to use to clean the engine bay of my car, I have tried engine degreasant to clean most of the stains etc and this worked ok.
I was however after a product that would bring the bay back to a shine, especially the engine block, I have seen a product called "GUNK" and wondered if this was any good!?
Any advice would be greatly aprechiated.
Kind Regards Simon Read more
better with Autoglym engine cleaner, give the bay a good skoot of the stuff, rub the really dirty bits with a brush, and hose off with a hose at low low pressure, don't be tempted to use a pressure washer. Then while the engine bay is still wet get Autoglym Vinyl and rubber care, spay over engine bay, (looks like milk) it will dry clear and make the black plastic bits nice and shiney.

Maybe Lud could get some parts for his old one????
Seriously this made me think, how many prestige cars actualy do high mileages? If you look at a prestige dealer then very rarely do you see Rolls, Bentley, Ferrari, Lambo etc with high miles. I know this is because they are playthings to a certain extent, but are they really capable of doing high (or normal) mileages?
Would a Bentley etc be good to do 100 / 150k miles like a bog standard Corsa / Focus could probably do? Read more
It'd be hard luck if you need parts for it in the future as they'll all have been sold off!
cut up by a bus driver the other day... why? he was following his mate in front by going through a red light on a big busy roundabout... worse of all he was driving round a bus full of young kids.
Just being given me dads car a bit of a health check and apart from the stem seals being so worn its now burning at least 1 litre of oil per 1k miles I discovered the aux belt is only 1cm in width instead of the good inch its suppsed to be. I can see where it looks like it has almost been torn off.
Is this how belts inc cam belts usualy wear? My dad dosn't seem to think its a problem but when the belt gets that thin surely its only a matter of time? It drives the PAS, alternator and water pump so its quite important on this car. Read more

Mrs P bought her Golf GTi in March 2007 - we paid cash for it, it was registered onto her personal plate from new. So imagine my surprise when I took it for a speculative price to a VW dealer who said they'd buy it but that it had come up as having unresolved finance on a HPI check. The print out showed her plate against a VW Bora of the same age. Mistake at the finance company. Took a few phone calls but got it sorted - I've since learnt that this is by no means unique. So if you're selling your car there's potentially an added annoyance. I sold the car privately a few weeks ago with a clean bill of health to a buyer that didn't bother with a HPI check. Read more
