HPI your own car - good bet ? - Pugugly
Mrs P bought her Golf GTi in March 2007 - we paid cash for it, it was registered onto her personal plate from new. So imagine my surprise when I took it for a speculative price to a VW dealer who said they'd buy it but that it had come up as having unresolved finance on a HPI check. The print out showed her plate against a VW Bora of the same age. Mistake at the finance company. Took a few phone calls but got it sorted - I've since learnt that this is by no means unique. So if you're selling your car there's potentially an added annoyance. I sold the car privately a few weeks ago with a clean bill of health to a buyer that didn't bother with a HPI check.
