Hi all,
Looking at buying a mk3 GTI - as car detail above. On the sellers advert it says:
"Also still has original engine restriction at 5000rpm proven from ecu test that was replaced sept 2008 so the car has never been driven fast."
Any ideas? Was there a 5k RPM limit on the GTI?
Cheers,

My daughter's getting rid of her thirteen year old Micra. It's got an NI registration TAZ nnnn. I was wondering if it might be worthwhile trying to sell it seperately. The car's taxed and tested so there should be no issues there.
I've no experience in this area and haven't a clue if it's got any value and if it has would it be more trouble and costly re-registering the car than the return on the registration? Read more
Seen two cars today with TAZ nnnn registrations. First, at lunchtime, was an Aston Martin in Fetter Lane EC4 and t'other a Mk5 Escort by the Saint's ground in Northampton about twenty minutes ago.
Any thoughts on what appears to be common problem?
Xantia HDi 90bhp RHY engine, new Sept 2000, 108k, several previous owners, I've put about 1,200 miles on it.
It cut out. Taken to my usual Citroen agent. Verdict HP Fuel Pump, estimated repair cost more than value of car. Got a pump (same part no) from ebay. Mate of son (time served, and experienced diesel mechanic) fitted this, but it won't start. His kit gets code P0230 (he doesn't have specific Citroen software). Immobiliser light is going off after split second of key turned, so we don't think that's the problem. He has checked, and claims fuel is getting as far as injectors, although he's getting a reading of 2 volts at the injectors, which he believes should be higher, can't remember what he said, but in the 5-7 volt area. He thinks ECU might be problem, but we believe that these are programmed to car, so might be pointless swapping it over. Reading forums there seem to be endless possibilities as to what problem might be.
History: Fuel guage sender was faulty, so replaced low pressure pump, new unit, soon after purchase. We don't believe the LP Pump had degraded prior to replacement. The previous owner had crankshaft pulley replaced within last few k's.
Any suggestions would be welcome, or any confirmation or contradiction of our assumptions. If we don't figure it out soon, I'm tempted to strip it and sell all the bits on ebay. Would be shame, as it drives really well when it works.

Hi,
Been advised that our clutch is on its way out (100k miles).
Anyone any idea what price we might be looking at? Been advised that the flywheel may be shot too? No idea what one of them is but it sounds expensive.
Do i need to sit down before i look at any replies with rough figures?
Thanks

When the car is started up, on tick over the oil pressure gauge fluctuates between 1.5 to 2 bar on the gauge. Should it read 3, should it fluctuate on tickover? It stays on 3 when running and doesent loose any oil.

Seem to have missed news of this which is odd for me.when is it due? Read more
Yes the performance figures are impressive, also the fuel economy and CO2 figures will be as well.
Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where I can find month-by-month car insurance for a 1992 (J-reg) Mazda Eunos?
I'm 22 years old and i'm using the vehicle short term between selling my private car and getting a company car, but most sites appear to be for over 25's only.
Does anyone have any idea whether it'd be best to take out a 1 year policy and cancel early, or is there a site that you know of where I can get insurance for approx. 2 months?
Thanks in advance!

Ask your current company.
Cause of fracture, loose Camshaft Bearing Bolts. These bolts need checking by an independent Mechanic, all bolts (There are 20) should be tightened to a minimum of 8Nm, if not they will slowly vibrate loose over the passage of time and miles and put undue stress on the rotating camshaft causing it to fracture. These bolts can be checked in about 30 mins - cost approx £40.
I believe it takes 50 complaints to be made to Vauxhall Head Office in writing, before they will issue a TSB.

I sent a letter, giving notice that I will issue a County Court Claim to recover all costs in full, their reply was to offer 50% goodwill compensation, which I have rejected. The more complaints they receive, the better chance we have of getting a recall, SO GET WRITING.

Sounds logical though as loose bolts would cause oil starvation

My new car came with a remote central locking key fob but it isnt working. I have tried a new battery but still doesnt work. I think it will need reprogramming. The car comes with 3 keys and a little metal tag with a number on, is assume this is for immobiliser?
Any ideas how I could get this working? Read more
I know this thread was a while ago but can you tell me how many buttons your remote has. I have the same model/year 626 but it came without its fob so I am looking to get one. Only there are 2/3/4 button models available and i have to find which mine had.
Thanks...
Hiya
No idea - I didn't buy that one. Bought a really late model shine one - 76k on the clock - and no 5k rev limit...
Cheers.
