On an old car of mine no matter what I did the windscreen wipers used to make the most awful noise when it rained. Washing windscreen, using glass cleaner, replacing wiper blades, cleaning blades, whatever - still the same. Perhaps the springs on the wiper arms were wrongly set - who knows? Just curious really. Yep, it's a 2000 P11-144...so that finally explains it, thanks (wonder if the OP's car was a Primera too?)

ps: GB, I remember that discussion fondly!

i was wondering if anyone could help me. The engine in my 2001 ford focus 1.6 is blowing oil through the pipe that comes off the rocker cover and into the air filter box. can any tell me the problem. Read more

Replace it - get down to a local scappy and find one, most will have a focus with reasonable mileage and see what happens. This same thing happened to a friend and he replaced the rocker cover and pipe and its been fine since.

My car doors make an increasingly irritating noise when I open them - two clunks when opened wide. I am told these are the door arrestor pin (?) Does this sound right?
Please could soemone tell me how I go about changing them before they send me mad? Read more

I would agree, a little lubrication makes a lot of difference.

I have a small gouged dent on a hire van, and was wondering whether a franchise like dents away or a repair shop near Weybridge surrey could be recommended as it hopefully will be cheaper than returning it with damage Read more

Hello

Does anyone have any info. on the affect of a brand new version of a given car on
values of the previous version ? Am thinking of buying an '07 Subaru Legacy Sport Tourer - however the brand new model has been announced & will be here in October.
Should I wait until the new model is here as (obviousy) this will cause further depreciation of the outgoing model. The dealers will probably tell me that the new model will have no effect on the outgoing model - but I find this hard to believe. I'd prefer not to wait until October but still use the new model's arrival as a bargaining tool.

Any advice, links to sites with info greatly appreciated. Read more

It varies so much from car to car and how the car economy is running. Generally a new model replacement will see the previous model depreciate relatively faster as the months pass.

A lot of new engine technology is due out over the next 12 to 18 months, expect significant fuel efficiency improvements, power/torque increases, significantly lower CO2 (reduced VED), etc.

One of the biggest factors for car depreciation in future years will be fuel efficiency/economy.

Both the above factors are worth serious consideration before purchasing any new car.

not a lot
try getting parts for these models at your dealer and holding your breath when they quote you
try a drop arm for a chryslar peoplecarrier
or a speed senser
try the price of front end bits on a crossfire
or even try the price of a right hand drive headlight for a pt cruiser

the only one i would consider is a jeep Read more

1965 Split screen camper with 1500 single port 6v engine. I am having to replace the heads as the threads on the plugs are goosed. Whilst the heads are off I want to increase the cc. as cheaply as possible to 1600. Do I just get larger barrells. If so do I need longer bolts and tubes. I,ll change the rings but intend to keep the same pistons (presuming they are ok).
Thanks Read more

dont work like that i am afraid, you either fit larger pistons to go with barrels or a longer throw crank, either way its a major job, if you realy want to increase power then get a recon engine far less trouble (more money but far easier)

Hello there I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem I have been having for a while now. Here goes -

When the central locking on my '00 Fiesta Zetec-s is opened (with either of my two keys) it opens and then closes itself. This happens when opened remotely or with the key in either side lock.

If I pull the handle at the right time I can manage to get the door open (with the locks still looping) then when I get in and close the door they lock and stop. At this point I can then open the passenger door and not before.

I have taken it to a garage who said that he cannot fix it, he doesn't know what the problem is, that I need to see an electrical specialist, and the job is going to set me back a few hundred quid.

I'm hoping that someone may have come accross this before, and might know of a solution (hopefully not costing a few hundred quid!!).

Thanks in advance,

short term (pun intended) you could pull the central locking fuse, it still needs fixing but may help untill you find some time to fix the fault, regards TB

We are off to see the GFs parents in France on thursday evening for 9 days or so, and whilst we are away the insurance runs out. Knowing this we arranged the cover for next year early, (1st April). As of today the documents have not arrived, and despite calling the company they are next to no help. The certificate runs out just before we are to travel back. The insurance is sorted BUT we wont have a valid certificate for the last few days of the holiday. Should we get stopped are we likely to get into trouble? Thanks Read more

Must summat legal I think. I know that if I get an order via email from a customer I can't get it insured but if I get the same order by fax I can.

Thank for the reply, I went to my local VAG Specialists who told me it was a main dealer only job so i went to a local key shop who replaced the chip in the key, plugged in there code reader to find the immobiliser code and reprogrammed the key for £45.
Works perfectly now! :-)
