Engine?

rossinatrench

Hi

I have a 2.0 DI Vectra and live in a very hilly area of Wales. The DI has a smaller turbo than the DTI and is un-intercooled. I have been wondering if adding an intercooler to the engine would give me more power or at least be more efficient? and could there be any negative effects to the engine? At the moment I need to change gear more often than I would like to maintain power and speed...

I have been offered an intercooler and all the pipes etc so have been thinking as it would cool the compressed air a bit, hopefully resulting in greater efficiency!

Any help or info would be great!

Cheers

it wont hurt it but i doubt that you would notice much in torque/power far better to spend a little time/money checking that everything is okay with the vehicle in is present state, mass airflow meters are a common problem with these but rarely give any codes and are reknown for lack of ummph check you vacumn pipes from the pump to turbo /valves swirl accutuator and egr thes will cause lack of ummph also, Regards TB

While driving sometimes all the instrument cluster lights come on in my Vauxhall Vectra 52 plate 2.0d. When this happens the indicators wont work either but the car drives normal. If i switch off the ignition and switch back on again the lights go off and the indicators work again. Any ideas? Read more

HELP!
My Mondeo v6 2.5l is suffering from a lack of power when I accelerate. Taking of from junctions I have to be careful! The car runs well and smooth, quiet, just a lack of getup and go. For a v6 it is very poor. My old Audi A4 v6 was a hot rod compared to this.

Any ideas suggestions before I resort to FORD.

I have checked under the bonnet and nothing loose or obviously missing. Car was "serviced" before I bought it ( 3 months ago) but I think they only changed the oil.
Added some REDEX to a tankful which has improved my fuel consumption, a little. Air cleaner is OK.

thanks

Picked up a cheap Vito recently to replace the ever reliable Dispatch.
Needed something a little bigger/cheaper.
I'm looking for a part that sits on the inlet manifold r/h side.
In the picture its painted black and there's a couple of jubilee clips bodging the crack/broken area.
MB do not sell the part on its own meaning you've almost to buy half the inlet manifold!!!!
If anyone knows of any Vito's being broken etc. Could you let me know.
Also if it's fitted to any other Mercedes so I can widen my search
Cheers
Rob

I have a friend at work who was just leaving his house and heard this rattling noise from under the bonnet.
He looked to see what the noise was and found the bottom pulley had fallen off the main pulley, it looked as tho it was just pressed on. Is this a common fault with vehicle, as I have never heard of it before.

We had a clapped out Citroen van a few years ago and one of the gear linkages used to frequently detach at one end. I still have a scar on my arm from where I burnt myself leaning over the exhaust manifold to re-attach it.

It was temporarily bodged with cable ties, but if you've lost the linkage you will need to buy a new one. They cost about £20 five years ago.

I saw a programme some years ago about traffic wardens in London. One thing has always stuck in my mind.
A lady warden came across a car parked illegally, the car had no badges of identity and she just said, ' I can't ticket this one, I don't know what it is '....it was a BMW 5 series. I don't think she looked at the tax disc.

I have wondered ever since, as I sit in my bath-chair and dribble gently into a tissue, if this would be a good 'get-out' to avoid tickets. I then think a little further, suppose I took the two badges off the Jowett stick a chrome 'Electrolux' script or something similar on and position the tax so the make is obscured, would any offence be committed....likewise, take the badges off the Citroen and replace them with another make.

Just hypothetical, might be fun contesting a ticket got when driving your Hotpoint !!!

Its a non-issue now. Wardens take a picture of your car so it doesent matter what its called.

In fact, in london some tickets are issued by fixed cameras anyway

Anyone else had rear wheel bearings changed?

I've had a droning noise increasing with speed and gradually getting worse. Whilst the car was in for a cambelt change as 4+ years old but only 38K miles, asked garage to investigate noise....they reported both rear wheel bearings require changing....quoted 500 notes.

Talking with parts dept. of my local VW garage, they seemed to imply that this is a fairly frequently used part (rear hub assy), with units even being replaced under warranty.
Same part used on Audi A3.

I would not expect to be replacing rear wheel bearings this early on in cars life!

Is this a design problem? Bearing quality issue or possibly lack of lubrication....but meant to be sealed for life. Possibly a poor batch but seems to be a developing reliability problem? Read more

I have had SEAT And VW rear wheel bearings replaced under warranty and have had them fail (become noisy) on several occaisions over the years I have owned VW related cars. My "MOT man" tells me that they are a known weak point.
