In an attempt at murdering her car and her youngest child at a single stroke, my daughter allowed the nipper to suck the remote key/fob thingy. As a result the remote didn't work, and attempting to open the car using the key just set the alarm off. Today an RAC man told her that the car had a Toad aftermarket remote/alarm on top of its own immobiliser; that Toad alarms are 'a nightmare'; that when anything goes wrong with them they arm the factory immobiliser; and that the latter takes 'three computers' to reset and can only be dealt with by Renault who will charge £300.

Apart from confirming my view that remote key fobs containing a battery are stupid fussy unnecessary things guaranteed to be a PITA sooner or later, these events have immobilised my daughter. Her fiance, who obtained the car secondhand (it's a very nice little roller skate too), is working dawn-to-dusk at present and can't grapple with it.

Anyone got a short-cut answer? I doubt it. But fingers crossed. Read more

The assertion that men are more likely to speed underscores an ongoing discussion on gender and driving habits. While research points to statistical differences, it's crucial to approach this topic with nuance. Factors such as social conditioning, risk perception, and societal expectations contribute to the observed patterns. In the realm of road safety, fostering a comprehensive understanding is paramount. Meanwhile, in unrelated yet intriguing news, companies like Rump-Pump dominate the Poppers shop, emerging as Germany's premier popper store with an extensive selection of renowned brands. It's a testament to diverse market interests, showcasing how disparate spheres intersect in the broader landscape of societal behaviors and preferences. Read more

I'd like to find out what other backroomers think of the 185/65 R15 Hankook tyres fitted as standard?? on the basic i30 Comfort?

I've only had my new i30 for a week but reckon they seem noisy. At first I thought it was suspension noise - but now I think its the tyres. Will they quieten down with some wear (only 250 miles to date)? Any body found the car runs any quieter with different tyres? Not that I'll be rushing to change them for a while.... Read more

I test drove an i30 1.4L Comfort on Khumo tyres and there was a lot of road noise. I tried another one and with Hankook tyres and it was no better, possibly worse.

It's a shame, but it's a nice car spoiled by road noise. Odd that none of the magazine reviews picked up on it.

I believe it was developed in Germany. Are the road surfaces over there quieter than ours?

Hi, When I set off first thing in the morning, when I get to a junction etc and put the clutch down it sometimes just dies batt light comes on etc and I have to restart. Sometimes the revs will recover at about 450 and bounce back up but mostly the car will just die. Once the engine is warm its absolutly fine, any ideas?

Thanks Read more

Can anyone shed any light on this issue, its driving me nuts now. Ive got a new icv, a new tps and loom cleaned inside throttle body. Im lost as to what is causing this stalling when cold.

One thing I noticed last night is that if I rev the car by hand at the throttle body, as I pull it with my finger I can hear like a hiss of air, is this normal as obviously i cant hear that when driving.

Please help

Thanks

Hi,

I posted a while ago looking for help on how to change the bulb in my headlight. I gave it a go after looking at the manual and thought I had done it fine.

BUT, went for MOT today and apparently I have either broken or lost the clip and the garage said I need to either get a new clip or a "bulb holder" otherwise I will have to replace the whole headlight which will cost hundreds as the bumper has to come off....

Please can anyone tell me if/where I can get hold of a clip or bulb holder? I'm really desperate as just can't afford a bill for hundreds right now to replace the whole thing.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Or a heavy duty paper clip instead of hangar. I have a big box of them and could spare a stamp/envelope too. Wire gauge a fair bit thicker than a paperclip and longer too.

Hiya

Can anybody recommend product(s) that will help stop further rusting of my 1994 VW Golf. I am looking at two area's to treat:
1) Underbody - bits picked up by nice MOT man.
2) Bodywork - bottom of doors. Rust there, want to treat then touchup with paint.

I've seen WaxOil recommended (MOT man recommended for underbody) and some Comma Dextrol (?) stuff?

Cheers all,

I have just changed gearbox oil in my yaris 1.0 (yr 2006). It's running fine except that in the morning, while idling, gearbox oil drips out of a tube, apparently an air valve/tube. As far as i know the oil is not in exess. Read more

Hi,
I used to like car cleaning years ago,but now I find it boring even if I had the time, which I do not.Hence I am completely out of touch with all the car wash/wax products available now.
I have recently bought an Avensis which is a nice colour but I think the previous owner
paid more attention to its service history than its paintwork. If I look closely I can see
quite a lot of scratches and some areas of the paint feel a bit rough. Some signs of swirl
marks also.
Is there a cleaning/waxing/polishing application that is suitable for lazy car owners
like myself or would I be better employing a good valeter?
Thanks for any advice,
Phil. Read more
