98 2.0 Reprogramming remote key fob - TimOrridge
My new car came with a remote central locking key fob but it isnt working. I have tried a new battery but still doesnt work. I think it will need reprogramming. The car comes with 3 keys and a little metal tag with a number on, is assume this is for immobiliser?

Any ideas how I could get this working?

I have fixed this, quick trawl on the internet revealed these steps;

Insert key in igntion barrel and with drivers door open, turn key to ON (NOT ACC) 3 times (off, on, off, on, off, on), then remove key.

Press drivers door light switch (located on lower drivers door frame) 3 times.

You will hear central locking motors operate.

Press any button twice on key fob you wish to re-programme.

I know this thread was a while ago but can you tell me how many buttons your remote has. I have the same model/year 626 but it came without its fob so I am looking to get one. Only there are 2/3/4 button models available and i have to find which mine had.
